It was more a metaphorical question.

Yeah there are two …

Or are there? 🤔🤔🤔🤔

I don’t see how people want Microsoft to exit the game or react to the market like Nintendo and Sony.

We need companies who can take the biggest risks. Nintendo and Sony damn sure aren’t going to do that. They will dip their toe but never fully commit. Look how quick Nintendo dropped the Wii U the minute it started to underperform, to release something safer. Sony took a risk with the PS3 and resorted to something safer.

With Xbox they took a risk with Xbox 360, suffered, risked with XB1 and Kinect suffered… this might be their less riskiest generation and it has nothing to differentiate them from competitors. There is a place for each of the big three and none of them should shut down (hopefully) and none of them should try to emulate another or else where is the competition?
Hard disagree.

Nearly every single Nintendo console has been risky. Virtual Boy, DS, 3DS, Wii, Wii U and Switch in particular all standing out.

Xbox have released 4 consoles with similar features and incremental power updates. They’ve pioneered certain features in the software space (as have Sony and Nintendo). The only risk Xbox took with the 360 was shoving some great technology in a tiny chassis leading to millions of failed units.

Well yes and no.

He himself can be against exclusives, but exclusives sell consoles/subs, therefore he has to make/get some exclusives.
A perfect world would be to play any games you want anywhere you want and can.
(Vision xCloud ?)

Doing "we are the good guys" did not help them at all so far.
Gamepass only woke up Sony and they introduced their own gaming sub service.
Maybe Sony is pretty wise doing it their way by not including first Party games on day one.
(See Gamepass canibalizes Games sells).

IMO doing PC and Xbox release at the same time devalued the Xbox alot. Sony again is a bit smarter here.
You want to play our games? First on Playstation. Release on PC ? Maybe sometime later.
The consoles are still cheaper and are powerhouses for the money, but none of the PC gamers would buy a Xbox.

Someone who owns a PS5 or Switch can buy a PC instead of a Xbox to play all current Xbox games and even more. No need for a second console.

No PC gamer would get a Xbox, for what? Xbox OS? Exclusives? Get a Switch or PS5.

Did Xbox get any console exclusive games in the last few years, which were not released on PC at the same time or before?

"No" exclusives = smaller installbase = fewer third party games = fewer reason to buy and/or develop for it.

Their plan on betting "Strongest console" did not help so far either.
PCs are stronger since day one (of course it is not possible atm to get a PC with the same or better specs for a console value), games on PS5 sometimes run better etc. (not ideal for the most powerful console..)

THB I dont get why they really want ABK.
Ok they are after the ABK revenue, but investing the 69 (nice) billion into other studios etc would be more wise.
MS has alot of big IP, they just need to pump out the games and deliver on a high note.

Something like on Halo Infinite release is the worst thing you can do... probably the biggest Xbox IP and they failed to deliver in release...

BTW Inbefore anyone tells me I am a Sonyphony.
Nope
My main (nearly all) gaming is on Xbox, since X360.

Microsoft's whole strategy has been copying Sony's homework. And Sony was copying Nintendo's homework before that.

Let's not pretend Microsoft is something they are not. Only Nintendo gets the credit for actually trying new things

How is that a lie? It was always on a case by case basis for new ip and keeping existing ip multiplat. There is no lie here. Phil is above all this console war nonsense.
Phil wants people to play more games on more devices, yet he bought a company making games on X number of devices and decided to change that to X-1, so yeah. Double speak at the very least.

I was going to go there that he himself could be against exclusives but we live in a world currently they don't have a choice to make some things exclusive or risk Xbox future

But in turn he could be the first to say no more exclusives and see what happens

But I wont go there because I have been called an Xbox Fanboy once already today and usually once a day is my limit

Oh I think the fact that I have owned 4 PS5s and now own 2 dual sense edge controllers kind of rules out me being an Xbot

The total number of devices you could play on would go up, just because you can't play on Playstation doesn't make that not true. Also it's not really about number of devices, it's about number of gamers with access to the games, which would go up dramatically, as every single Playstation gamer would still have access to those games via streaming or PC or Xbox. So total amount of people able to play those games would be higher, whether more people would play is an open question, but it is 100% fact that more people would be able to play those games if they desired. I mean if Sony had an actual web browser on PS5 you'd even be able to play those games on your Playstation device too. The amount of people purposely misunderstanding what Phil says and then passing it off as "hypocritical" or "double speak" is mind blowing. He's the CEO of Xbox, of course he's going to do what's best for Xbox first, but to act like one of the 3 companies isn't doing way more for "Play Anywhere"/"More players playing games"/etc. is just ignorant and shows a strong bias against them simply because you like Playstation or Nintendo more

I usually refrain from responding to you due to your post history. But I'm wondering if you've ever taken even a brief look at who Phil follows?

A BestBuy NPD XBOX stalker who is widely recognized as the #1 console warrior on the internet, who just happens to be the guy Phil Spencer converses with the most frequently online?

In other words... Please stop talking horse shit like the people in this thread are unaware of the stench.

I got one so I can play games in my bedroom.

If you are not interested in sonys exclusives there's no difference in which console you prefer.

Theres still console exclusives. Like Rdr2 coming along time OK consoles before pc. And some games are less infested on consoles (gta as an example)

And then there's games you can resume from pc to Xbox with games that has xbox play anywhere.

We're still arguing about Starfield PS5 never existing? I can tell you who doesn't buy that bullshit. The regulators

Where did anybody say it didn't exist? All I see is them saying they haven't pulled anything away from the Playstation Community, which they haven't, because the Playstation Community never had Starfield to be taken away

Must be a slow news day if we're regurgitating TheRedShitheads tweets about interviews from 2021 with Pete Hines, not Phil Spencer, and still debating that Starfield was 'stolen' from PS consoles.

You missed the part where DenchDeckard DenchDeckard was telling us how being in majority means your "better".

Also, mass confusion on which is the real "Heisenberg".

Oh.....and I think Americans on this board just declared war on the UK. Apparently defending Microsoft is our patriotic duty or some such nonsense, but who are we kidding? Any excuse to shoot some guns.

I simply don't take "following on Twitter" to be an indictment.
