Well, all jokes apart. Time for some constructive feedback.

Redfall is the perfect example of "you get what you pay for." This is the reason why so many of us keep highlighting the importance of a profitable business.

It's crucial for a gaming company to sell millions of copies, which can use that money to improve its game development, going from strength to strength. Without money flowing in for each individual product, it is going to be extremely difficult to put a lot of effort and money back into your games.

People who think that "day one first-party games on a subscription service is a good thing" should look at Redfall and what it represents. This is an inherently flawed model in the gaming industry. And that's why no top-notch publisher is doing it.

I'd start by asking: Even if it released in a polished state, is the concept behind the game attractive to an audience or is it trying to shoehorn a developer with other expertise into checking off some outdated industry trends. If MGS is calling the shots for the release date, it sort of feels like a no-win situation. You either throw away years of work on a project that doesn't seem appealing in the first place or you draw a line in the sand and release the game to tepid critical response and move the studio onto a project they are better suited for. It really makes you miss the Blizzard of old or wish for more Valve-like companies that will just scrap projects if it isn't up to a standard.

"Good enough for Game Pass" is a SAVAGE headline by Engadget.

I hope Starfield gets a "too good for game pass" headline.

I played through Forbidden West and was feeling it some of the time. Wouldn't call it special.

This is kind of my problem with this generation :

Does anyone remember how SPECIAL Skyrim felt in the PS360 era? Special enough to forgive minor and even major technical problems? A game that couldn't be done in the previous generation? We haven't had a game like that in a long, LONG time.

Considering half of Redfall's development happened before Microsoft ever purchased Zenimax, you should probably do some homework before you try to push whatever this was supposed to be.

Damn, the reviews are brutal. At least Deathloop had a flair to it, but this just seem passionless, as if Arkane was forced to do make this game. Watching those reviews, the gunplay looks to be the most alarming to me, it seems so sluggish. The pressure is really on Starfield now, Xbox needs a win.
Interestingly, Starfield's gunplay in the last trailer looked identical to me as Redfall.

Arkane needs to focus on SP and story-driven only stuff and abandon anything else. It is clear as day that after Dishonored 2 and Prey, 2 of their games already gone downhill. I'm not saying they should abandon cool and innovative concepts and stuff, more like they should try and implement them into more SP and story-driven games like Dishonored and Prey.

I'm afrad that one more game like Deathloop and Redfall and it could be the end of them, or at the very least there'll be a huge flood of tallent leaving the studio.

Played for hour and half. Beat the first main mission and went through the “settling in” bit. Heading towards the helicopter crash

Had zero expectations. Also… yes… it’s not a pretty game and could easily run on an XBone or Switch imo

But the combat isn’t bad and it’s kinda spooky and vampires are cool. Music is funky.

It’s been a fun 90 minutes and I’ll definitely play more later.
same & same. i just wanted something dumb to hold me over till tears of the kingdom. this'll definitely do that...

Starfield will have VATS, no?
I don't think so.

Ignore the caption. This was the only perfectly-cut video clip I could find of just the gunplay.

But when I saw both Redfall and Starfield, I noticed the same issues. No weight of the gun, no impact, weird animations, AI enemies not reaction to getting hit with bullets, weird alpha effects for bullets traveling, etc.

Interesting. Combat has never been a strength of Bethesda's open world games so I don't think Starfield will live or die by that measure. I think Bethesda hired an ex-Bungie person to help with their shooting mechanics starting with FO4.

That is true. Starfield's combat will not get the same level of scrutiny or criticism as Redfall did -- even if those are 100% identical. Because there's also other stuff in a game like Starfield.

But it does negatively affect the gaming experience and enjoyment, so I suspect it'll show up in the review scores one way or another (at least to an extent).

Looking at this review, it looks kinda fun? Not trying to defend, however maybe once they've ironed out some of the bugs, FPS, etc we might be left with a decent game. At least in co-op, which was how I was intending to play

One can hope, but bugs are just one of the many issues with the game. They’d need to do a complete and total overhaul of the core game to change things like host-only progression and fundamentally broken AI. I’m not even sure they can fix the graphical problems with simple bug fixes.

Forgot i preinstalled this a while ago. Thought i'd fire it up to see what the fuss is about. Looks like shit, runs like shit, but i like the setting. Can see me playing this with my son for an hour or so now and then once they fix the performance issues on XSX. Glad its on gamepass, if i'd bought this on the strength of their past games i would be pissed off

I think there is A LOT to be critical of for classic and modern Bethesda titles but you have to give them credit that they've made two more niche game series umber popular with the mainstream, warts and all. Greater than the sum of the parts is apropos for Bethesda.

So what you saying is you are glad a shit game is on game pass ? I think this post really sums up the state of game pass right now. As long as you don’t need to pay for release games you don’t care about the quality. It’s a bad road to be on and thank god Sony didn’t walk that path with ps plus.

I was really wanting this game to succeed... but damn. At time it feels and looks like a game from 2010. They could only achieve 30fps with a game that literally looks like it could be an Xbox 360 game? Yikes.

Well, looks like my expectations (70-80) were a little too high still. I think it’s obvious this got shoved out the door before it was ready.

Ladies and gentlemen, I think it is time to give the executives at ZeniMax a huge round of applause, not because of how awful Redfall is (although they certainly do bear some responsibility for this shitshow), but rather that they were able to swindle Phil Spencer and Satya Nadella out of seven and a half billion dollars to buy out ZeniMax and their associated studios. I bet ZeniMax also tried shopping themselves to Sony as well back in 2020 and gave Sony a fair chance to at least try and match Microsoft's offer, but Sony probably had a good eye with their executive team to look under the hood back then to see what a rotting corpse that ZeniMax was trying to sell off. In hindsight, the Fallout 76 shitshow of a launch back in 2018 should have been a warning sign that things weren't going so well with the ZeniMax-owned studios, and that it wasn't a one-off aberration, but part of a larger issue among their studios that Microsoft of all companies certainly wasn't going to resolve anytime soon, especially with Phil Spencer at the helm.

No, he’s absolutely correct.

Excusing poor quality because you get it “cheap” as part of a subscription service is precisely what many of us warned would happen under the Game Pass (also known as Netflix) model. The subscription service itself becomes an excuse for low quality content, which in turn leads to more low quality content because keeping people subscribed and engaged is the more important metric than game quality or sales.

Look at all the green lit projects by Amazon and Netflix that got thrown in the trash after a season or less. Because they’re constantly chasing content to fill their service. The same thing will happen (or, rather is happening) with Game Pass.

A word I’ve seen used a lot to describe these kind of service issues, and one I’ve become quite fond of is: Enshittification.

How does Bethesda have iD Software in their ranks and not get taught anything about making good gunplay

You will regret your words once Starfield gets 90 plus
