Tears of the Kingdom is the biggest launch in UK this year, beating out Hogwarts Legacy, RE4, and Jedi Survivor

It isn’t a big surprise really as it’s been on peoples most wanted lists for a few years now. Still, I’m always pleased to see a Zelda game be commercially successful.

Hogwarts, a huge/established franchise and multi-platform release, failed to beat Tears of the Kingdom launch numbers. Yet, your math calculates that Starfield, a unproven franchise will do better?
Fallout was selling okay for PC only, but wasn't setting the world on fire before it became a TES relative.
Bethesda and what they do, despite being bugfests, usually become good or great sellers. So it may probably not be a megaseller on its launch, depending on the quality, but if it follows Skyrim's (or Witcher's) footsteps, selling over a few generations, it could become a quite important title.
Hogwarts was done by a team without that long established background and sort of flew a bit under the radar, despite being of course a mega franchise.
But whatever, anything Starfield is fortune telling and wishful thinking for now.

None of those games are mediocre, but you already know that, and are clearly just being a penis on purpose.

On topic, surprised this sold more than Hogwarts considering its on multiple systems whereas this is obvs just on one. Massive success for Nintendo lets hope they use that profit to improve their hardware

Well, those multiple systems consists of two consoles that have less than half the installbase the switch has right now... Combined. So not surprising really.

I dunno why people are surprised. The switch AAA people has been waiting for 5 years, it was going to outsell everything this year.
Waiting for the emulation to be good and we can play this at a decent resolution and framerate

So they've released anything noteworthy in the past 12 months?

Feel free to enlighten me
well here are a few this year
Metroid Prime Remastered
Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Expansion Pass Wave 4 - Future Redeemed
Advance Wars 1 + 2: Re-Boot Camp
Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon
Fire Emblem Engage
Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe

Well these are all 1st party exclusives. not counting 3rd party and indie game.
oh unless u dont count indie as games.

I guess starving your install base of anything to play for over a year can have this effect on your next release on the system
If you starve your installbase of anything to play for a year and then release a Zelda game, you get Skyward Sword figures.

If you keep your install base engaged with continuous releases and then release a Zelda game, that enables you to get TOTK figures.

Tears of the kingdom will break records but these boxed sales inside just UK are useless in a highly digital world.Stop posting it.
Digital would be better of course, but it's still useful to have this data, even if it's incomplete.

Tears of the kingdom will sell more copies than there are current gen xbox around. Starfield will have a very hard time selling as much lol
That is a given, Xbox series is at 21 million and Zelda BOTW sold 29.8 million on Switch so it will outsell current XBox Series install base even if it sells several millions less than BOTW.

Your answer is not an answer its an excuse, you want me to take your explanations as a fact, a life time of dealing with fanboys taught me to do otherwise.

Horizon selling 8million is pretty decent.
Your comparing it to one of the most popular games of all time that has been around for decades…

My man Zelda games didn’t always sell that well, the highest selling Zelda game on a single platform is OoT at 7.6, TP sold 8.6 on both GC and Wii and that is it, Zelda only got this popular with Breath of the Wild, you Sony fanboys just don’t want to admit that those 20-30 millions Sony used to sell on PS4 only happened because they used to sell their games for 20$

Different times. Its still a hugely popular series. All games sell more than before, well apart from Xbox games.
I really dont care about what excuses you make for Horizon, sells for $20, bundles, comes with VR etc etc. Still sells well and makes money.
Zelda is just a much more popular series and a better game, that why it sells better. No shame in that

Nintendo has released roughly 10 more noteworthy games in the past 12 months for me personally than Sony and Microsoft combined. This includes 2 Bayonetta's, Xenoblade 3, Kirby, Metroid, Fire Emblem Engage, Pokemon and Fire Emblem Warriors. And that's besides all the third party stuff I've played on it like Atelier Ryza 3 and Persona 5. My Switch has seen close to 800 hours of playtime in 2022, so yeah... I don't really feel starved. It's okay if you don't like these, but what are you doing in a Nintendo topic if you don't like Nintendo games? Always seems weird to me how so many people who apparently dislike Nintendo's offerings keep feeling the need to express their dislike.

It's like me going into every PlayStation topic saying I dislike TLoU, Horizon and GoW and that they aren't good games. Seems like a waste of energy for everyone involved.

Not a massive fan of most of Nintendo's output, but based on Wikipedia, since January 2022, they have released:

  • Pokemon Legends Arceus
  • Kirby and the Forgotten Land
  • Nintendo Switch Sports
  • Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes
  • Mario Strikers Battle League
  • Splatoon 3
  • Bayonetta 3
  • Xenoblade Chronicles 3
  • Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
  • Fire Emblem Engage
  • Metroid Prime Remastered
  • Kirby Return to Dreamland Deluxe
  • Advance Wars 1+2 ReBoot Camp
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
That's more games than Microsoft and Sony put together in this period, and include what I understand are some pretty big franchises - Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Xenoblade, Metroid, Kirby, and Zelda.

This is also not counting DLC and expansions (apparently the Xenoblade 3 DLC is amazing), third party games like Triangle Strategy and Mario+Rabbids (apparently this is a Ubisoft game), multiplatform games like Persona 5 Royal, Nier Automata, No Man's Sky, Fall Guys, 13 Sentinels (what the fuck is this), Sonic Frontiers, Diablo 2 (did not realize this was on Switch).

Like, Im not huge on Switch (though I think the hardware concept is badass) but if you think its been lacking releases I think the problem is with you lol

And when I dared to ask “how come Horizon 2 only sold 8m in a full year on over 140m console base” the Sony sackboys ate me alive
Why don't you compare sales of Zelda with something like GTA which has been around just as long? Try GTA 5 with both BOTW and this? We'll wait............

Oh so being around longer means you sell more, so right now if they make a Pong game it should sell 25 trillion copies, those are all flawed arguments, I compare Zelda and Horizon because they are both first party open world games on very popular system.

I don't understand why people get so worked up by the success of Nintendo first party games. They are simply really good plus Nintendo just has that history of making great games over several decades now and you are seeing a similar type of enthusiasm for Sony first party the more hits they release. When you look at any top 100 games of all time it is basically Nintendo's back catalogue. They deserve it. When Harry Potty is $20 in 5 years time. TOTK will be still $70.

Do UK sales matter in general? I've always wondered why they are highlighted vs Europe sales as a whole.
