Anita Sarkeesian is tired, closes feminist frequency after 15 years

Don't celebrate too hard. When one attention whore grifter falls another rises to take their place.
Having said that?

I disagree with a lot of things that modern feminism preaches (and I agree with a few of them, too!), but I honestly don't have much of an issue with Anita or with feminist voices being represented in the gaming industry. What I find much more objectionable is the zeitgeist that says EVERY voice must be feminist, and that disagreeing with modern feminism is inherently bad. I don't know how we got to this place, but the onus is on *everybody* to form their own beliefs instead of mindlessly following the herd or pressuring others to follow the herd themselves.

She affected some real change that she can be proud of. If it wasn’t for her influence, Neil would’ve made Ellie still unable to swim in TLOU2.

Also, it’s her fault that D4’s Lilith doesn’t have boobs as big as Lady D’s.

Protecting your unborn child instead of remaining in a dangerous situation is Deeply Problematic and Sexist.

Clearly she's only speaking about pregnant NPCs carrying male babies. They have to make sacrifices for the - harpy overlords - women at the front of the movement, from in utero to in grave.

Edit: fuck me if I can remember how to strike text correctly on here. You get the joke. Har har.

it’s a truly bizarre take.

To progress in the game you need to increase the population in your vault. In the real world there is no other way of increasing your population without impregnating Women!

And don’t all unarmed vault dwellers run around flailing their arms regardless of gender?

there's been a nuclear apocalypse, but some of us have survived in this underground bunker. should we fuck to ensure the continuation of our species?

"OMG that's so misogynistic! don't objectify women like that!"

my wife/girlfriend is pregnant, should she stay out of danger or radioactive areas?

"no! she can still fight too! don't be a sexist pig"

humanity: dies.

Literal death cult.

Probably , not probably but a very unpopular opinion here, she's had a positive impact on the industry. Her whole impact on the industry, specifically after gamergate helped stop the fan base from going to an extremely toxic place that it was going towards and opened up gaming to a broader base by including new perspectives and voices. It's become less of a "boys club" since then which I do appreciate.

With all the talk of aliens and what have you in the mainstream lately, the idea that Earth has hosted several iterations of advanced intelligence but they all collapsed under the weight of the cyclical nature of humanity seems pretty spot on. I could very easily see the proto-human green anntenae'd predecessor to Sarkeesian claiming that having men work on the pyramids was disemppwering to women, and before you know it, the entire species is buried under sand and broken stones, when circa thousands of years later, some archeologist with a pride flag sewn onto his biege jacket wonders aloud what the fuck happened before returning to his Sarkeesian lecture on youtube.

People are really unfair on Anita, I think. She saw an excellent money making opportunity and she took it. There was a gap in the games criticism market that she could serve, with built-in engagement drivers from faux controversies. People would pay her to exist, in "solidarity". Then as the market got crowded with Kotaku and Polygon stealing her schtick and pulling custom away from her, she pivoted to doing talks and consulting. Better yet, she trained audiences to always need her output - if everything is racist, sexist and homophobic and it needs to be pointed out, she could never be out of a job. Even got her business labelled a charity, which I'm sure led to sweet tax breaks.

Anita was living the American Dream.

As a female Canadian, no doubt. Smashed the patriarchal immigrant cultural norms!

Fuck that. Have you seen the horrors of the wasteland. I’d rather make vault babies than to go into the wasteland and deal with them.
IDK, the one on the left already has a body in her count. There are other vaults to be found.

This made me start thinking what it would be like to be with someone like her and I think my brain went into a feedback loop and it spawned the captain America I think I won’t gif
Funny, I thought the same thing. Her baggage must be huge and heavy. I doubt she could shut this shipment t off in the house too. Image hearing her views while eating every meal with her, every car ride, at every social event.

The thought of it…… fuck. I just went to a dark place.

Kipling has you beat by 104 years.

The Gods of the Copybook Headings (1919)

As I pass through my incarnations in every age and race,
I make my proper prostrations to the Gods of the Market-Place.
Peering through reverent fingers I watch them flourish and fall,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings, I notice, outlast them all.

We were living in trees when they met us. They showed us each in turn
That Water would certainly wet us, as Fire would certainly burn:
But we found them lacking in Uplift, Vision and Breadth of Mind,
So we left them to teach the Gorillas while we followed the March of Mankind.

We moved as the Spirit listed. They never altered their pace,
Being neither cloud nor wind-borne like the Gods of the Market Place,
But they always caught up with our progress, and presently word would come
That a tribe had been wiped off its icefield, or the lights had gone out in Rome.

With the Hopes that our World is built on they were utterly out of touch.
They denied that the Moon was Stilton; they denied she was even Dutch.
They denied that Wishes were Horses; they denied that a Pig had Wings.
So we worshipped the Gods of the Market Who promised these beautiful things.

When the Cambrian measures were forming, They promised perpetual peace.
They swore, if we gave them our weapons, that the wars of the tribes would cease.
But when we disarmed They sold us and delivered us bound to our foe,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "Stick to the Devil you know."

On the first Feminian Sandstones we were promised the Fuller Life
(Which started by loving our neighbour and ended by loving his wife)
Till our women had no more children and the men lost reason and faith,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "The Wages of Sin is Death."

In the Carboniferous Epoch we were promised abundance for all,
By robbing selected Peter to pay for collective Paul;
But, though we had plenty of money, there was nothing our money could buy,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "If you don't work you die."

Then the Gods of the Market tumbled, and their smooth-tongued wizards withdrew,
And the hearts of the meanest were humbled and began to believe it was true
That All is not Gold that Glitters, and Two and Two make Four—
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings limped up to explain it once more.

As it will be in the future, it was at the birth of Man—
There are only four things certain since Social Progress began:—
That the Dog returns to his Vomit and the Sow returns to her Mire,
And the burnt Fool's bandaged finger goes wabbling back to the Fire;

And that after this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins
When all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins,
As surely as Water will wet us, as surely as Fire will burn,
The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return!

gotta say i do agree here. grifting for social media engagement & donations is the easiest path to the "dream" in America today if you're not a corporate shareholder.

next best is probably posting scantily-clad pictures of yourself on social media to be an "influencer". .....but isn't that what Anita & FF was fighting against? 🤷‍♂️

I got to step up my corporate shill game and level up to a corporate shareholder. How many Xbox rewards points do I need to get there?

I thought that the Tropes VS. series was sporadically intersting, but largely vapid third wave feminism dolled up for a new media audience, and Anita's value was grossly over-valued by her supporters, particularly as she became a martyr, and ultimately, a composite Christ/boogeyman figure, depending on your politics.

But.

It always amazed me that the gaming community's response to, whether correct or not, a fairly eloquent and restrained critique of sexism and misogyny in games media was to shovel truckloads of misogyny upon her. And, then to pearl clutch and DINDUNUFFIN out of one side of the mouth, while snickering out of the other.

You're of course, correct, her only miscalculation is how fast the industry caved to her demands to the point she was redundant.

well, MS stock is current $336 per share. best value on points is 910 points per dollar (91,000 pts = $100 gift card), so for just 305,760 points you too can be a shareholder!
