PlayStation Plus is increasing its pricing globally starting September 6th

First they increase the price of their games, then they increased the price of the system in almost every region, now they jack up the subscription prices by 33%.

The onus shouldn't be on the consumer to fund Sony's game development! If they make these bloated budgeted games that don't sell enough that's not ON US to cover the fees/costs!

You don't need to have a sub-service if you game on console though.
Yes this is the other thing. For as much as I don't like this price increase, i am still confused by these types of comments. Because it's not like you need ps plus to play playstation games. Unless the main concern was about paying for online. switching to pc just means you don't have access to the ps plus catalog. which is like fine but it's the same as just owning a ps5 and choosing not to pay for ps plus, which is also an option.

I still think it's worth complaining about. If it's your main console, you don't get any competitive sale prices on digital games if you're not on at least essential. And games like Gran Turismo, and all their upcoming GAAS games are going to be online.

This gen Sony seems to be back to their arrogance, like they've been with the PS3 at first. Except that for the PS5 the first half of its lifespan was pretty great, but the second part is shit. No real big surprising 1st party exclusives incoming (SM2 / Wolverine and that is all).

So the ps5 is now :
- No big surprising first party incoming.
- Increasing the PS+ every year (wtf is that) even though they don't add content on it (the premium PS+ makes no point, I know it because I subbed it). I mean 119 to 155 ? It is a 30 PERCENT INCREASE in 1 year.
- Insanely priced controller (240€ ? For comparison the DualShock 2 was 30€, I know inflation and all but...)
- An useless overpriced "remote play" device...

Seriously if I didn't love Final Fantasy that much, I would go full Xbox on this gen. Which is sad for me since I've owned every console since the Super Nintendo.

It's sad to see Sony doing this. Their movie/tv business seems to understand that subscription services aren't the way forward. But Jim Ryan is just copying Xbox's business strategy.
Consoles aren't growing so they need to get more money out of existing users to report a growth in profits.

So far it has been working.

All we need now is one or two more major subs to divide up all the games and the prophecy will be fulfilled.

Mods, please fix title if possible :messenger_dizzy:
"PlayStation Plus is increasing its pricing globally starting September 6th."

$20 increase for essential. $59.99 -> $79.99
$35 increase for extra. $99.99 -> $134.99
$40 increase for premium. $119.99 -> $159.99
A $40 increase in dollars is ridiculously high in my country... Jesus.

If this were the case, it would be in the messaging. It's just a normal price uptick. Everyone will be upset for a week or two, then life will continue as always.

I was thinking that as well but it couldn't have hurt them to announce future plans for more value to the service to, y'know, ease the blow of the price increase news. Although I don't see any 1P AAA games being Day 1, maybe they'll hit the service six months later? Still think that's a bad proposition and could eat into B2P sales revenue but, hey, I'm not running SIE so that's little of my own business.

Did think that they could add more 1P AA games Day 1 to the service; problem is Sony doesn't have any internal studios making AA games. Not really, anyway. Maybe they are working on some with 3P through XDEV but since they haven't openly talked about any future software plans 1P-wise post-Spiderman 2 aside from GaaS titles, then we can't even say that is a certainty.

I agree that they should have said this when they announce the news of the price increase but it would put them in a bad spot if they announced the news of first party games coming to the service quicker now.

Think about it this way, Spiderman 2 releases in Oct for $70 and if they announced that it will come to PSN catalog sooner, right before it releases this would negatively impact sells for the game right now and its basically their only first party release for the rest of the year (Hell drivers 2 might get delayed into 2024).

Sony could just be greedy but I would think they plan to improve the service to justify this type of increase.

damn I was enjoying the service for a bit. that's a big increase to not add any additional value to it.

I'll either stack up a couple years or just cancel.

And you need plus for online.....?

I've been subbed for years and if I don't sub I will lose access to all those games acquired. Hmm.

It's a case of vote with your wallets.

The saddest thing is that, despite the price increase, Sony will still not include their first party games day-1 on the service. Hell, The Last of Us II was never released on the service.

It's only of the year subscriptions. Monthly stays the same... it's still a discount vs paying every month.

People were shitting on Kutaragi but the dude offer you an incredible console for 600$ with no Online pay, even back then i was saying it was much better deal than Xbox 360 that seemed cheaper, but it wasn't really because of paid online
People never like seeing huge numbers up front. It's the same reason why mobile network plans(that offer new phones) are the way they are in certain countries. People simply prefer the monthly payment plan if the option is immediately cheaper.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Premium subbers are getting the brunt.

It's already called the least desirable tier on forums, this hike won't help.

600 bucks because they overbuilt a complicated console that was making them lose 250 bucks per unit, it was so expensive and with its issues that made most people jump for the cheaper Xbox (especially that MS has more aggresive sales deals) with its factory extended warranty and have the difference paid in years long installments with Xbox live, it would have been the same price anyway.

WTF is this increase?
When I read the title I immediately thought that essential would cost $70, but $80?! That’s a fucking ripoff.

Premium is just ridiculous now!
