I’m curious who can toe the line to push Sony forward to please users but also please the money hats.
Herman seems like a win for gamers but he doesn’t strike me as the guy who can do a PS Plus price hike.
I’m hoping Herman is the guy though. He’s younger and came from the ground up in the industry. He would double down hard on amazing games.

All the current that are released was already in the pipeline and he was in no shape or form responsible for those games.

Makes sense. Sony's most profitable game is their Grand Fate Order mobile game. Probably has made $5B in sales since it launched.
I'm surprised Sony never put more resources into making more mobile games.

Current Head of PS is Hermen Hulst. Hiroki Totoki is the current CFO and will be interim until March 2024, until they decide the new one CEO.

They're roughly the same age. In fact I think Jim Ryan might be slightly younger than Phil Spencer, by about a year, if this is correct.

I know that he's filling in as interim. I was referring to the idea that he believes "mobile gaming is superior to console gaming" which is a completely unsubstantiated claim, other than he was president of Sony's telecommunications division.

I was a PS4 fan but have recently lost interest in what most of the Sony studios are doing -- you know, the whole cinematic thing, often mixed with political correctness. I hope the new guy will turn the clock back somehow, but I doubt he will. I foresee more of the same.
Also, some of the takes here are really dumb (e.g., he was asked to step down, he has some kind of major medical illness, business wasn't going his way, etc.). The guy is retiring. He's old enough and rich enough. He's accomplished enough in his career. Being CEO of a megacorp is stressful. He wants to step away from that and spend the rest of his life relaxing and enjoying himself. When you guys get his age, maybe you'll understand. Work/career isn't the be-all, end-all of a man's life. When you've got the money to retire (and surely he does), most men get off the work treadmill.

They don't show early trailers anymore, but better than showing games too early.
Games have lesser variety/quantity but that's sorta across the board in the gaming space.
PS+ being middling. but PS+ being mandatory happened during the PS4
Studio closures have been happeneing ever since the PS3 generation.
Stuff like evolution and studio liverpool were bigger losses than japan studios.
If you look at the actual hardware AND software released
playstation's output is really high quality.
PS5, Dualsense, PSVR2 are all fantastic hardware.
PS studios have been releasing constant bangers.
the quality of first party software is amongst the best sony has ever been
they are arguably the best collection of studios amongst any publisher.
The PS5 lineup so far is better than the PS4 was during it's early years.
Himbo has made PlayStation become more streamlined,
stepping away from what they were bad at and doubled down at what they are good at.
It wasn't all him for sure, it's been an ongoing transition since the late PS3 era.
But the PlayStation brand hasn't been this successful and popular since the PS1/2 era.
