Eh well likely never know tbh. Guy could be just retiring. Or maybe he just can't PR with the general public and they feel it's a bad look.

I don't think Jim Ryan made many decisions on his own. He wasn't really spear heading the direction of the company.

I hope Whoever replaces him will be a good fit. I never really cared one way or the other about the guy. Then again I don't think I can name any CEOs of the products I use.

Hard to argue with his results as a leader. He leaves PlayStation in a position of supremacy in the gaming industry.

Ps plus price increase sucks tho.

Really curious who his successor will be. PlayStation has always had such big personalities at the head.

Jason schrier finally with good news for once.

Bye Jimbo, will never forgive you for
- trying to pass off Horizon, miles and gt7 as next Gen.
- making horizon, miles, gt7 and gow last Gen
- turning god tier Sony first party into a gaas machine
- raising ps+ prices
- $70 games
- ps5 price increases
- horizon next Gen upgrade scam
- ps vita and ps3 store closings

The last three you walked back because they blew up in your face. Good to see Sony still has some accountability.

You think the guy got sacked for those reasons?

Do i have a cristal ball or what? i was just saying the other day that all the min maxing that he did since he took the position was typical of a CEO's looking for a fat bonus when retiring, you see it all the time.
Maybe i should play the lottery or something.

I won't miss him.

Jim absolutely dominated the competition and made a shitload of money for Sony but I as a consumer gradually disconnected from the PlayStation brand during his time as CEO.

I hope they don't get a Spencer-type guy as replacement.

Here is what I want the next PS CEO to do:

- Fire Herman
- Cancel all GaaS games
- Cancel all PC ports
- Have all current PC studios work as support studios ensuring faster game releases.
- Cancel PS Premium
- Drop PS5 Price to $399
- Rehire the Days Gone leads and have Bend work on Days Gone 2
- Rehire the Japanese studios team.
- Move Sony headquarters back to Japan. No more woke nonsense stemming from their San Mateo HQs and LA studios.
- Model themselves after Nintendo. Focus on your own hardware and first party exclusives. Focus on single player games. Stop chasing trends, and just put in the work.
- Double ND, GG, SSM, Sucker Punch, Bend and Insomniac workforce. Stop buying studios and just hire everyone from studios Embracer is shutting down then have them work for your A tier studios and Insomniac.

Correction 55, according to Google he was born in 1968.
🤷🏿‍♂️

That's still wrong.

"He joined Sony in 1994, just before the first PlayStation console was introduced, and was appointed to his current role in 2019. The 63-year-old executive said he's found it difficult to reconcile living in Europe, while working in North America."

Wonder who will replace him?
Can't imagine it'll be Hermen Hulst, he's doing a good job as head of Playstation Studios.

Pretty sure Jim is in his 60s lol he looks way older than 55, that website posted earlier also said hes american but hes actually British.

Bloomberg said in their article that he is 63.

Sounds about right, he's probably yearning for a well earned rest.

Pretty sure no one even read what the man said, but he states its been hard to reconcile working in US but living in europe, hes probably super tired.

- Cancel all PC ports
Legit question, why?
I'm really confused by this. I see multiple replies in this thread having this stance, or mocking people who like PC ports, and I don't really understand why. It doesn't change anything for people playing on ps5, it stays the same for you.
The only thing it does is that it lets more people play the game on a different platform, which only seems like a positive thing.
I don't understand how it can be viewed as a problem when it doesn't change anything to you.

Something something brand value. Pay it no mind.

Tretton is a boss. Bring his ass back.

Don't care about their Gaas push, they are hiring studios that wouldn't have worked on SP games anyways, its not taking away from their SP studios. If these gaas games can help fund other games its a win for PS.

They should keep expanding as they are, and buy Square Enix while you're at it. Square with Sony's full support will be banger after banger.

Otherwise it's business as usual. Foster talent, small games, big games, third party and first party. Sony knows how to win.

I'm betting he has to do a lot of flying back and forth. I wouldn't want to be doing that in may 60s either.

Tretton really was the best

Took an early shit sandwich with ps3 and turned it around aggressively

All it took was good exclusive games

Winner.

Double down on it. Release a PC app/storefront with full PSN integration - Trophies, friends lists. Play anywhere is one of Xbox’s better ideas, Sony should’ve gone down the same route.

Really don't wanna entertain that possibility but damn, the timing between that and this is a bit something itnnit?

Probably less than 5% chance it's related to anything with the ransomware hack tho.
Who knows?

Hopefully we get a improvement in the replacement.

As for the hacked data... I hope consumers credentials aren't compromised but I do hope we can see the release schedule.

Probably the right time to go as the company looks towards a next gen platform. This happens a lot…it’s a big time commit. You don’t wanna bale out at the start of a gen.

TBH, you'd be lucky if one of those comes true.

The only one I see as a possibility is if the DG guys get rehired somehow and make DG2 or another game. I dont see Herman getting fired, but similar to any other person out there, there's always chance he quits for a different company unless he wants to be a lifer and retire for good with Sony as his last employer.

cancelling all gaas is a bit extreme, since sony has zero multiplayer games right now. but i hope the next ceo rethinks some of jim's ideas. i think everything else on that list sounds good to me. Jim's been terrible, but investing in a bunch of gaas right before MS buys overwatch and call of duty seems like a pretty smart move.

If I were a betting man, I'd bet it will be Hulst.
Hermen ain't getting a CEO position anytime soon, he only barely got an important role in the company. Lin Tao (Senior Vice President of SIE) is my guess, she's been working there since 2001.
