Share halted means it's a done deal.

XBOX as a division has never been in a worse position. Their core support got a extended look behind the curtain and it's abundantly clear they've got more money than sense. Behind the scenes, it's an absolute catastrophe. The original goal was to remove content from their rival. The end result, ubisoft controls the right to the ip they spent 78 Billion on.

It's been hilarious.

So the Ubisoft deal basically signals they won’t be making any game exclusive, right? Because since they have to let Ubisoft decide where a game is streaming, they have to make a PlayStation version regardless right? They really gave up a lot just to pass this.

Not that there’s a whole lot they make besides cod anyway so it was already mostly irrelevant.

That’s not how streaming works.

It's typical Microsoft bullheaded-ness that they just kept on going long after they should have stopped trying to ram this merger through. It's not clear what they hope to accomplish in the next 10 years they still have to make CoD for Playstation (and now Switch?) that would put Xbox in a more favorable position before they pull the plug in 2033.

If Xbox is still a distant 3rd place in 2033 when they finally remove CoD from PS/Nintendo Whatever, all they will do is spark an angry backlash against them. I don't know what they even think they are doing other than this really was a desperate Hail Mary acquisition to try and keep Xbox afloat and now they own it and they are going to have no fucking idea what to do with it, the same problem they've had literally since Rare. (Anyone remember Rare after MS bought them? Yeah, me neither.)

Phil ended up getting his career moment, one way or the other. It wasn't Nintendo but Activision Blizzard isn't a bad thing to get.

The problem with MS is the same as it's always been. They have no idea what they are doing, are not interested in ever learning what they should do, and approach every problem with the same solution: Embrace, Extend, Extinguish. Monopolize, Crush, Destroy Competitors. And that just doesn't work in a creative entertainment industry.

It does work for the short term, but long term it usually doesn't.

I wouldn't argue it even works in the short term. They have gotten nothing from the Bethesda/Zenimax acquisition so far, even from games which were already in development before the acquisition happened like Redfall and Starfield

MS doesn't give ABK anything they didn't have before. They were already spending $300 million on each new CoD entry, so it's not like they were hurting for money or budget and that's the only thing MS can offer them

They wanted content for gamepass and mobile. They got both of those things. Even from a catalog standpoint the deal offers a lot. Revenue and lots of it is there.

Unless something changes with CoD the deal will make sense for years to come. I know that interferes with the copium in here but it is what it is.

Yay thank God.

Interested to see where they go from here.

Do they cool their jets for a while or jump right to the next acquisition?

ABK will give Xbox 2 billion dollars in pure profit each year and 10 billion dollars in cash on hand. For the short term Xbox gains alot.

Going by track record anything decent Activision had will now turn into mediocre crap.

FM the latest example.

The good thing is Battle.net can die and everything comes to steam!

Activision and Blizzard are already mediocre crap. Their glory days are long gone. COD and stuff sells well but is there anything original and innovative? They're selling same games over and over.

Where even is any new IP from Blizzard? They used to release cool new stuff like Hearthstone and Overwatch not that long ago.

Havent kept up with the deal. Is the only caveat the cloud service part MS sold to UBI (I think). Is that it or anything else?

That cloud divestiture was brought up during the summer already.

Microsoft’s repetitive, recycled strategy of halo, gears, and forza has deteriorated so now they had to find another franchise to acquire to try and keep the rehash cycle going.

Seriously wonder how long CoD will stay relevant going forward with MS owning them, unionization, and talent fleeing. Is the CoD brand really that beloved that it’s resilient to these effects? I’m doubtful

They did it. Looked really stupid while doing it, but they did it.

Let's go team #GamePass
To be fair the CMA pushed them to give great deals to pretty much everyone and that's great for gaming and that has to be 👏 This puts Xbox now in a much better position but they need to continue to get the games out while making sure they are polished enough, work needs to done.

The same third party also submitted that paragraph 8.1 of the Proposed Undertakings, which prohibits the Parties from re-acquiring any interest in the Activision Streaming Rights without the prior written consent of the CMA for a 10- year period, should be amended so that the prohibition applies indefinitely. This third party suggested it was essential to ensure there is no provision for the Activision Streaming Rights to revert to Microsoft. The CMA's usual practice is to adopt 10- year prohibition periods in relation to UIL divestments at phase 1 and for divestments and prohibitions at phase 2, and the CMA considers that no basis has been established to depart from this approach in this case. The CMA also notes there is no provision in the Ubisoft Divestment Agreement providing for the Activision Streaming Rights to revert to Microsoft.
Someone did try but the CMA's said no
