Meta Quest 3 | OT + Review Thread |

Someone must have used one of my promotion thing and I got 5 bucks to spend before First of November. So had to make a purchase real quick or lose it.
So I bought Floor Plan for .99 cents plus tax. 5.99-5.00 plus tax. :(
I think this game should have been .99 cents to begin with as I finished it in less than an afternoon.
It's quick and cute.

I’m not into golf but tried that Golf+
It’s very good on Quest 3.

I'm having a weird bug with my meta quest app and store.

I can no longer see referral prices. If I click referral it says I'm claiming rhe 25% but the price doesn't change from full price. I can't see games that are on sale prices either.

Any ideas? Any one else experienced this?

I can’t even see the Halloween sale. Think the store is broken.

You have to be logged in to see the sale.
On top of that, you will not have certain games on sale while others will, because meta does targeted sales.
On top of that, some of your sales even for the same game will be better or worse than other people.
On top of that, if you try to redeem a referral or any promo code for a full priced game that is part of the targeted promo, the system won't let you and tell you the game is on sale (even though it isnt for you).
The best you can do is contact their chat support who work extremely slowly and inefficiency and they might give you a $5-$10 store credit voucher.
The meta store and how they do sales is kind of trash compared to steam.

I’ve logged in and still can’t see anything. Thanks for the update. Meta needs to fix this.

I'm always surprised by how little BoneLab comes up in threads about the Quest2/3.

It's easily my favorite game on the platform so far, by a long shot. There's so much variety, cleverly hidden areas everywhere, weird ideas, crazy ways to play if you bring along the right weapon or item through the levels, etc.

We won't be opening our Q3 until the kids open it on Christmas, but from the videos I've watched so far, it seems that the minor performance issues it had on Q2 are completely gone now.

I might get it after completing the Red Matter games. Bonelab is always on the email adverts Meta keeps sending me.

Quest 3 is my new favorite toy. I've spent a ton of time in VR since getting it.

Yep. That's a good one, and there's also a good amount of games that never get brought up that are great.

How are people finding watching videos on it?
Really good. I was watching some sports on it the other day and it was the first time I preferred a VR headset to my 65inch LG Nano tv. Watching stuff in mixed reality mode with a decent head strap (Bobo VR) makes a huge difference. It’s slim enough front that I can still eat and drink. Nice to be able to see my beverage while watching something.

I really don't get why so many are excited for MR gaming, you're limited to where you are. With VR your whole surrounding changes and with it, environments can be as big or small and varied as the designers make it. Logically the latter would be more exciting than the former, am I wrong here? Even my RL friends who have never owned a headset are suddenly are hyped for it... Well if that's what it takes for more people to buy VR headsets, I can't really complain.
There is a LOT you can do with MR gaming that I don't think people realize or understand.

I think board games, TCG, Tabletop RPGs, and stuff like ping pong and pool tables are best suited for MR.

But there are other uses too. I could definitely see it used to project flat gaming in 3D like the 3DS or incorporating your environment for building. I also think it could be used for virtual pets who interact with you in passthrough like a Tamogatchi or Nintendogs.

Something also like a Yu-Gi-Oh game in MR would be huge.

I think the cool thing about VR/AR is that is can be different than traditional gaming. A lot of things are very tech demo-y but I feel like a lot of these can be heavily refined and feel more complete with an actual AAA/AA budget and skilled, passionate devs who already have a lot of experience with VR/AR.

Pets would be interesting for sure.

For me it's about not destroying my place with games like ping pong and boxing where it's easy to get carried away and go outside the boundary.

MR I think is more immediately useful for industry, visualizing 3D models for engineering, reviewing building architecture, event planning layouts, basically anything where you need to collaborate on a 3D design or demonstrate it to others, it's definitely huge.

Oh definitely. I think MR has more uses outside gaming and I can see a lot of potential in professional settings and education.

Bouncing off of architecture and engineering, I think it would also be useful to get an estimate of a size of furniture in your home and things like that.

But we can already do all the bolded in VR and (IMO) better because the game could put the user in a world related to the game instead of just your room. Yu-Gi-Oh for example could have players inside a huge stadium like the one from the show.

I'm not dismissing its potential for real-life applications, one thing that would really feel like a game changer for MR would be being able to use a Google Maps style app, which would overlay your plotted directions directly on the road. I think once we get to the point where MR apps can replace your smartphone is when the tech explodes.

Have to say I’m a bit disappointed by the Quest 3 update for 7th Guest. When you see what’s possible with Red Matter 2 with dynamic lights and textur, it’s a pity that the devs didn’t implement. The hardware is certainly capable.

THE DUCK

voted poster of the decade by bots
Finally got mine, former quest 2 owner......(sold it just before quest 3 came out)

- The pancake lenses as expected are much better
- The fov is improved, still a bit of a looking through effect but definately a good upgrade
- I like thr balance /weight with included strap much better than 2, I can actually use it. Probably still get elite but much better.
- while the improved optics make everything sharper, still feel like screen door is an issue?
I think once we get to 4k per eye it will be golden.
- So everything is better, controllers, balance, strap, pass thru, processor, etc.
- still evaluating but I'm not quite sure yet it's enough of an improvement to care. I mean the ar is cool, but as I'm playing synthetic rider I'm.like does it really matter if its in my room or not? And most of the games are the same, upgrades, or similar.
- wondering if I should keep it for $700+ or wait this round out for quest 4. Will spend some more time with it, haven't tried any direct pc games yet. At 400-$500 the choice would be easier.

Tactility.

VR is nowhere near as good as real life there.

Take playing the piano. Yes, you can absolutely learn in VR. But having a physical keyboard to use is just so much better, especially if it has features like weighted keys. Now, using AR with said keyboard? Incredible.

Any opinions on the elite strap with battery? I know it is expensive, but how does the battery compare to the internal battery? Was playing Zekith which is awesome but I think I got about an hour out of the battery on it.

On a side note I thought I’d have buyers remorse coming from an index and holy shit was I wrong. I love this device (and the index).

Some people have had problems with it but it's worked perfectly for me.

It doubles the life of the headset. It balances the weight and is more comfortable. But make sure you keep the headset powered on otherwise it has a mind of it's own when it comes to charging everything up.
If I had to do it over again I would get the elite strap with no battery and just use an external battery method from some other source. (Your external source needs to have a large wattage output to keep the headset going though).

Thanks and I didn’t think about that. Maybe I’ll just do that as I have a high wattage external and see how it does.

I'd say just buy it, it's essential IMO. Just know how to use it properly - leave it unplugged from the main headset when not in use, and simply plug it in when actually needed (using the headset for a decent time). you can do this with no guidance easily even with the headset on, the cable is the right length it just hovers alongside the port. I've had no troubles with mine since launch and it upcharges the headset so even if you plug it in at 30% battery you're good to go for another few hours.

FYI, if you activated your Quest 3 within the last 7 days and forgot to use a referral link, you can still get the $30 credit by following the below steps (worked for me at 5 days out and took ~5 minutes):

Already activated your Quest?
Not a problem! If less than 7 days have passed then you can still get that store credit by following these steps:

1. Go to the following link and select 'Delete Device Data': https://secure.oculus.com/my/devices/
2. Perform a factory reset on your Quest by powering it off and then pressing and holding the power and volume down buttons at the same time for several seconds. You should see a boot menu appear on screen. You can navigate this menu with the volume buttons and use the power button to select the highlighted option.
3. Select the Factory Reset option and then 'yes' to confirm that you want to reset your device.
4. The device will guide you through a short reset process. All data on the headset will be lost, but all your store purchases remain - you just sign into the same Meta account.
5. Click on your preferred referral link (Mine's here if you need one)
6. Power on your Quest and run through the device setup process, including syncing the Quest to the Oculus app on your phone.

After you're done, you'll receive the $30 store credit automatically. You may or may not receive a notification (I didn't). If you didn't get a notification, you can go to this link and the $30 should be listed under Store Credit (or go the Oculus app on your phone > Menu > Wallet > Store Credit and you should see the $30 credit for today's date).

BTW, if you are looking for some nice games to pick up, instant-gaming (as trustable as cdkeys as far as I can tell, much better than g2a, kinguin or some other sketchy places) has the following that are decent:
Walking Dead Saints and Sinners for <$10 (really good)
Sairento < $1.5 (lol)
Creed < $7 (I didn't get, seems ToTF is the boxing game to get)

These are all PCVR.
Other places that have keys are Fanatical (both Quest and PCVR) and Greemangaming (PCVR), some nice deals to be had if you poke around, but I'd wait for around thanksgiving for the inevitable sales.

So I have noticed that the new ringless controllers are not as good for games where you hold the controller pointing away from you like in golf games. When I am lining up my shot, I consistently get controller drift as the camera can no longer see the IR constellation. 😔

Laying in bed trying out the VR Animation Player app. There is a bunch of content here that is free, or included. Is this where most of the Facebook Meta money went?
Watched several cute shorts. One about a girl who shows up in others dreams seemed to have a high production value.
Lots of animated diorama.
It's all mostly gee wiz look at that and not interactive beyond switching cameras.

Powerwash Simulator VR is here!!!!

Been playing for a hour or so and it's brilliant!!
So fun and relaxing and can see the longer levels will be really good for podcasts or just a different paced game.

I loved the game on flat screen but actually doing it in vr is so good lol

I've also added my referral code of anyone wants 25% off and help each other!!

Was testing virtual desktop, seems it's worth it if you have a 40xx series card for the AV1 encoding. My image got substantially better compared to the settings I was using with Airlink. Also see better stability across many games. I think having both options may be advantageous long term. Tried the original asgards wrath where I see the biggest improvements (if you just bought a quest 3 you have it for free on oculus PCVR).

I only have a 5g connection at work but it's plugged directly into my 4080 laptop. I wonder if it would still work well with my quest 3/av1 setup?

I can't handle wired VR anymore so VD or airlink would be my options.

If a network has many devices or if there are other networks on 5 Ghz the router will get hammered and the signal will have issues. I think the major benefit to 6g is that almost no one used it so it'll be "clean". Speeds are less important as your streaming bitrate will likely be encode/decode limited.

I have to say the reports I've heard about the controller tracking in games with a lot of fast movement has me worried. Any beat Saber or Supernatural players care to comment?
