What's good is your classic training video to let people know that "hey btw you might not realize this thing is racist but it kind of is." That's useful. Possibly a little condescending but there's enough people who could use it.

Constantly reminding people that they should think about race all the time is just stupid on its face. A lot of people are in a position where it's better to hold their tongue, though.

It isn't indicative of the racial and cultural diversity of NYC. The massive lack of Italian and Jewish heritage and culture and the overemphasis of BIPOC art is just one example of that.

As for the game, that is entirely dependent and subjective to the user. For me I found it to be an OK game that I wanted to love, but constantly and consistently pushed me away with awful writing, heavy handed symbolism, and disrespectful moments of the characters to push "the message" the writers wanted to get across.

You mentioned two games that have a vision and you can see their authors through the work itself. Like them or not, you can see the main designers and directors influence and contributions. There’s a stylistic thread you can follow.

SM2 is just a massive global product for global reach with not one single trait of auteurship. You can’t hear any voice in it or even a studio vision. It’s an industrial salad of outsourced influences with no impact.

I also don't have an issue with fast food type of products because some fast food can taste good but don't try put more importance on it than it has. When those two games I mentioned have political themes you can tell that is somebody putting some thought in vision into it rather than just virtue signaling. It has some authenticity to it. With fast food products it is just the company trying to display how much they are woker than thou.

Nothing happens quickly in an industry like this.

The decisions that have been made today will be felt for the next 5-10 years.

Just look at that list of Sweet Baby Inc customers: Xbox Game Studios, PlayStation studios, EA, SE, 2k, WB.

We’re going to be getting this slop in the games that are currently being made/in the conception stage. Our only hope is that sales tank enough that these companies repent, or that they all go bust and make way for talented new studios instead.
