I feel like a lot of you have never had a real job before. The corporate world is filled with a bunch of meaningless programs and initiatives no one really cares about, but you are paid to attend and participate. Singling out only inclusive practices says more about yourself than the company.

Not everyone live in countries where the woke virus is so strong, so yeah, people with a job can still be surprised by this.

And not every company like to lose money on this shit because they know it's just a small group of very vocal deranged people with probably no money to spend on their products because they are literally unproductive ambulant failures with too much times on their hands.

Thing is it's not hidden at all. So I'm always perplexed some think it's a conspiracy.

I worked high up in a corporate level for a world leading University for nearly 5 years, under a director who made it her lifes mission to spread diversity, equity and inclusion ideology as far as she could. When it got to the point when she'd start saying stuff like no more white opinions please, gutted the team and made it 90% female and basically made all our work about this stuff I began my preparations to leave. It was a nightmare working there and to do my actual job.

I was the the only person of colour on the team, so once I handed my notice in it was hilarious as then the team was entirely white and it caused her great anguish lol.

This was at a Business School and before the ideology had taken a strangehold of the place they'd publish interesting research on the business world, entrepreneurship, finance etc... once the ideology had taken over it was all about women in the workplace, racism, marginalised groups etc... You can now see the same thing happening to some game studios, such as Insomniac.

So forced it made me feel like it was an ingenuine push for points, instead of a natural evolution of character development.

"I'm going to ruin your mythos in a minute, baby" = Get ready to witness the lore burning to a literal crisp and watch the new lore contradict itself every episode

"It's going to be very diverse" = We're going to race/genderswap as many white male characters as possible to the point they are a minority.

I’m a left leaning centrist (well, I used to be considered that, my right wing colleagues think I’m a raving lefty, and my left wing friends think I’m pretty right wing )…I had zero issues with last of us 2, the supposed wokeness didn’t come off forced to me in that or heavy handed. Spider-Man 2 tho, sheesh, it’s almost a bit too much for me to be honest, so god knows how right of center people feel about it. I like miles, but it just feels like there’s relentless virtue signalling crammed in everywhere they can, it does not feel natural at all. I also watched that inclusivity video and they 100% ignored the “guardrails” section in this game. Do a side quest, a very obviously and stereotypically gay Asian guy asks for your help, and the whole quest is about helping him woo his boyfriend and invite him to the prom. They made him very stereotypically gay, and make the whole quest about how he was gay. Their video explicitly says NOT to do that.

So a lot of the video actually makes sense tbh, it’s just being implemented on a very surface level, as in tickboxes that actually ignore the nuances specifically mentioned to be cautious of in their training materials.

Anyhow, all that aside, I’m still enjoying Spider-Man 2. But yah, they need to do better.

Abby and Lev only exist to be a more woke replacement of the original TLOUP1 duo, specially the white hetero male. A male looking -probably trans- woman and an Asian trans kid.

The problem is that their focus was more on representing groups of a checklist and try to justify their inclusion there than to properly write good characters and story as they did in the first one.

In TLOUP1 (+Left Behind) there were "minorities" characters, but their group didn't matter and they were properly written, charismatic and part of a great story. They felt as normal characters placed there organically, didn't felt as forced character.

I mean, in TLOU2 there's a NPC Latin American guy of -as I remember from Abby's group- whose only role in the game is to constantly cursing in Spanish with Latin American accent (Mexican as I remember) just to let you know they did put a latin American guy there. As a Spanish guy I like to see someone speaking Spanish in the original dubs, but this guy felt that was put there just to fill a checklist. I think that the resources they did put on him would have beeter employed not including him and to write better the main or support characters giving them more depth.

Once you start treating every individual as a group-member based on immutable characteristics, and each group arbitrarily positioned within a stack of perceived need, there's nowhere to go because that process imposes an all-encompassing world-view on everybody in it.

In practice it just creates rhetorical inversion; i.e. "Authenticity" is something that doesn't come from individual experience, its determined by what the group politics deems appropriate. How can that be actually authentically representative? It can't. And if its not actual, how can it effect social justice?

Its totally facile and unproductive.

I have family members living from southern Indiana to the mountains of Tennessee and can tell you I have some racist POS people within my family

Luckily I played a lot of sports at very high levels and despite my parents best attempts to keep me away from other cultures I am very thankful sports introduced me to people I still today call my brothers from all different walks of life.

So what if they overreact, the pendulum always swings back a little and eventually arrives at some equilibrium.

You hate that some people have this idea and you want to burn them down, have them lose their jobs, have their families suffer, etc. because they think this very simple idea is important. And it is a decision the company's leadership made yet you want them all to suffer for it. How are these thoughts rational, kind, adult, civil, or anything good?
