Unicorn Overlord |OT| Vanilla Force

If this game had cross-platform saves, I would buy both Switch and PS5 versions. That monarch edition looks so cool. I'd buy that for the Switch without hesitation if I could carry over my save.

Has there been any update or official response in regards to the games localization?

I love Vanillaware but the supposed complaints for it are offputting.

Just play with Japanese voice work and English (or your native language) text. The script is less overbearing but it still is trying entirely too hard and not landing most of the time. When you're just reading it though - without having to hear how absurd it all sounds out loud - it is much better. That said, the story so far is absolutely nothing to write home about, which is pretty shocking when coming off 13 SENTINELS (which, sure, was VW's take on a Visual Novel, so of course it needed to nail the script and dialogue, but why not bring those same people back for this game).

I just got home with my PS5 disc. I was pleasantly surprised to find the DLC code inside the case. With the way GameStop has is advertised, I thought it was some sort of exclusive pre-order code.

Why do people try to make themselves unhappy? Are they just looking for reasons to not play games?

I’m too stupid to play a game like this, but I’m super happy for everyone who’s been loving it.

I'm also stupid, but I'm seriously considering buying it and playing on the easiest setting. I've never played a real SRPG before.

Wish this wasn't out at the same time as Rebirth. I'm absorbed right now but definitely want to play this also.

Damn that Monarch edition looks awesome too.. so tempted.

This is essentially my first SRPG. This feels more like Diofield Chronicle (of which I played the demo). You command your units around in real-time, and when they touch enemies, there is a rock/paper/scissors type automatic combat. This is the literal definition of "strategy" RPG, with all decisions made before combat occurs.

I'd say this is the SRPG to try if you ever wanted to try one.

15 hours in, and the game is a delight to play. You really have to watch your surroundings, watch out for surprise elements, and keep track of that timer. Very subjective, but I also love seeing that green landmass expand. Seeing my territory getting bigger is more pleasing than it should be.

I just noticed that the digital price is now $5 more than physical here in Canada. Yikes.

I want to play this game so fricking much, but just like I've expected they haven't delivered my copy today. :/ There's still a slight chance it will arrive tomorrow, but most likely I'll have to wait till Monday. :lollipop_pensive:
1) buy copy from local gamestop
2) play game
3) when shipped copy arrives, take it to gamestop with your original receipt for a refund

Not really possible as local brick and mortar stores didn't stock Unicorn Overlord, so it's availability is only through online sellers; Could have avoided it though if I would've pre-ordered it from a different online game shop a few months back. :p

Oh well, it's no biggie, I'll continue playing FF7 Rebirth.

Monarch edition still stocked here in Canada, but I cannot bring myself to pay $100 over the standard edition cost. I want to try that card game, though.

I'm bout to buy another and keep it untouched.. I have a feeling it's going to be worth something.

Me and my son bout to play this card game and it's going to get ruined.
I ordered one while they didn't have a delivery date on Amazon, and then they had more in stock with a delivery date so I got nervous and ordered a second Monarch edition. Now both have an updated delivery date and I'm kind of thinking the same thing you are. Maybe having a sealed version for a primo collector's edition and then another for actually playing with my kids and my nephews would be good. Big investment. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

P.S.- I usually don't give a fuck about physical games. I just really wanted the artbook and the card game.

I ordered 2 Monarch Editions for Switch and at least one should get here on Wednesday. I would have much preferred it on PC/Deck, so while I'm waiting I decided to tinker with it on Deck. I'm kind of contemplating playing it this way. 🤷‍♂️

How are you running it on the deck?

This makes me wish more games had demos as it seemed really appealing but definitely not for me after trying the demo.

I love the Fire Emblem games but more for the battlefield turn based stuff and this seems to have way more complexity prior to the fights but then the fights themselves are autobattles.

Beautiful art though and UI seems good so if you like this style of SRPG it seems a great choice.

I'm around 11 hours in now, and it's been a joy, I didn't get very far in the demo, and so I started from scratch. The gameplay loop has me hooked. Liberate a territory, recruit, tweak formation, and repeat. Constantly building on foundational knowledge of the game mechanics and learning new tactics has been fun. The story isn't all that compelling so far, but the small narrative pieces to introduce recruits have been nice. Also, holy fuck at the number and variety of conditions you can set for actions, this could be really interesting late game and on much harder difficulties.

Does anyone know how many battles it takes to increase rapport with party members to unlock stage conversations? Also, do mock battles with those same members increase rapport? Or does it scale with story progression? It doesn't seem clear. I don't understand how initiatives work either. Aside from accessory items like Dove Plume that increase the percentage of initiative, there isn't any other way you can influence it or even see it before engaging in a battle? Please help! :p
