NFL Off-Season Thread: "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?"

Squall,

How do you feel when it comes to Kolb or Skelton. This is a very important question.

Kolb is in theory ahead of Skelton right now due to accuracy but the man can't stay on the field so it might be moot. His pocket presence really leaves something to be desired but I think watching Skelton's confidence in the pocket while he was injured helped him. He looked a lot better that second half of the Cowboys game and I really would have liked to see how he finished the rest of the season. I don't have any disillusions about him, I just think he's still a question mark which is bad that we still don't know much more now than before we traded for him. It's tough to switch over to a new system without an off season and have no chemistry with anyone one the team, especially the WR's. I think the off season will do him a lot of good and I'm curious to see what he can do but I really question his durability.

Skelton I think has a lot of intangibles. He has great size, smarts, arm, pocket presence, can take hits ala Big Ben, etc. He just has poor accuracy and that's fortunately something that can be worked on. Guy still hasn't had a proper off season between the lockout and being injured the previous off season. I think he's even better off if Peyton comes here, he could learn from him and especially if Peyton is on the sidelines from injury or just isn't ready to go at the start of the season, he could provide valuable insight to the youngster.

I wouldn't mind just giving Skelly the season reigns to develop if we don't get Peyton, except that we gave too much for Kolb to not explore him thoroughly. Give him this one proper season with an off season to build more chemistry and we'll have a good idea of what he is (in our system, anyway). We still save most of the money in his contract if we cut him after this season.

This is how I envision the first Broncos practice with Peyton Manning.

John Fox-Okay, Peyton here's your new playbook.
Peyton-(Reads through the playbook) Wait, where are the pass plays?
John Fox-The what plays? Come again, Peyton.
PM-The passes? This playbook only has run plays and punts.
JF-Again Peyton, don't understand what you're saying. Speak English, please.
PM-Coach, you know a pass play. Like this (points to Eddie Royal and then starts a three step drop. As Peyton begins his throwing motion...)
JF-NO, NO, NO, NO! NO, DAMNIT, TIM, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! (Runs and tackles Peyton)

Wow.

Colts reportedly cut:
Joe Addai
Dallas Clark
Gary Brackett
Melvin Bullitt

That means in FA is:
Wayne
Garcon
Manning
Saturday
and those guys.

You could sign all of the offensive guys and have your own Indy offense.

So many holes to fill.

Wow at the Colts. A pretty amazing overhaul of players.

How old is Garçon? Is there a reason they didn't re-sign him? He seemed like a pretty good receiver.

Wow, better hope UofM football brings you some kind of joy. Doubtful, but still!

I kind of wanted to continue cheering for all of the old players on the Colts still after Peyton left, but now I'm not even sure anyone will be left.

Organization is sending a clear message - they are definitely in rebuilding and Indy is probably going to be bad.

I'd like to see the team reinvent itself somewhat, get an actual defense built. Luck is going to get pounded out in his first season though.

Are the colts trying to become the AFC version of the Bucs and be 50 million under the cap? Did they owner buy a soccer team or something?

Sounds like mcbean and dj williams suspended for 6 games. Denver going to pick up the whole colts team at this point. Brackett.

This just sounds funny coming off of a 2 win season. At least Luck is a promising piece to build around. The single consolation of being terrible for a few years is you'll have the opportunity to draft quality pieces in the coming drafts. I imagine you should have tons of cap room after this offload to be a major player in FA, though I'm not sure who could be lured there with no one on the team besides Luck. I suppose those that only care about money at this point in their career. Your interest in the draft has been significantly raised! Have any extra picks?

Costanzo was definitely a good pickup, but the Colts really need a lot of work on their O.Line to help protect Luck.

At least Peyton had Faulk and Harrison when he got in, not sure who Luck will have besides Collie.

:jnc Well played. I am pretty damn confident we'll get him. If not, I go back to looking forward to seeing how good our D gets, the improvement of some of our young talent, and giving Kolb a proper off season/season to show if he's truly a bust or not. I still think Skelly will be a good player, just needs to work on his accuracy so worse case I'm not worried. Certainly won't be a SB contender without PM but we'll still be looking at getting into the playoffs. Barely missed it last year and that's with us playing like absolute shit for half the season.

you missed the playoffs by 2 games and you were 5 games out of the divisional race. you won 4 of your 8 games in OT. in your other 4 wins were by 7, 4, 3 and 2 points. i don't expect you to get to 8 wins again this year.

If anyone caught the Petyon Manning tip story from Raleigh...the waiter is a good friend of mine. I feel bad for him, but it was pretty stupid obviously. The restaurant didn't even let him keep the tip after firing him!

Sacramento Bee - The 49ers have an offer on the table for Alex Smith, but the quarterback is unhappy with the length of the deal, according to sources.

San Francisco is believed to be offering a three-year deal, but agent Tom Condon is pushing for a five-year pact.

Take the 3 years Alex...no one else is going to give you 1 let alone 5...
