I suppose if people voted with their wallets on only buying games that had no used games restriction, then we might change the publishers mind. Not going to happen though.

You can always play your games, and any one of your family members can be playing from your shared library at a given time.

this could be cool, but did you guys catch the play of words? Not 10 at the same time, but "one".

what does that mean? And are all of them supposed to have Xbox Gold?

I buy a lot of games. and then dump a lot of games on ebay/give away when i decide i didn't really like/dont have the time to play them. If I can no longer do that, I'll just buy the franchises i know i like and cut my game purchases by 2/3. I suspect many others will as well.

Give your family access to your entire games library anytime, anywhere: Xbox One will enable new forms of access for families. Up to ten members of your family can log in and play from your shared games library on any Xbox One. Just like today, a family member can play your copy of Forza Motorsport at a friend’s house. Only now, they will see not just Forza, but all of your shared games. You can always play your games, and any one of your family members can be playing from your shared library at a given time.

My brother and I shall enjoy this, providing there is no caveats that I am missing. Would be nice for Steam to get a similar feature.

The 24hr check really is too much. I expected there to be DRM, but not this restrictive.

what if i sell my game to a friend on my friends list and then we have a falling out and i remove him? does it fuck his shit up?

You've sold the license to him. It doesn't matter from then on.

Uh, I know for certain in the near future I'm going to stay at houses with no wifi for more than 24 hours....

Xbox one unfortunately does not seem like an option for me.

How does the cloud work? Isn't it computing over a network? In that case it is streaming the game via servers. Unless i'm totally thinking this wrong?

You can't stream entire game data for your console to render though, too much content and games are too unpredictable for that. You either offload asynchronous calculations, or you do it the way of Onlive/Gaikai, by having servers render the game and feed you a video stream. XBO doesn't do this.

Does any one actually think that EA won't immediately disable the transfer of Xbone game licences now that they've been given that option? Ugh.

I think EA is spearheading this new policy and many other pubs will follow suit like they did with "online passes".

I don't think 3rd parties will let Sony do anything different that MS's policy. I can see them telling Sony you offer the same restrictions or we don't support the PS4.

PS I'm ok with this and its just as good if not a little better than Steam. And everyone loves Steam.

Why is everyone ignoring the family member thing? Who gives a fuck that you can't lend games when you can let "family members" winkwink, play it? Am I missing something?

They will make sure that you can not exploit this. Probably real name required and all family members need to have the same name or something like that.

So the most important thing here is you cannot purchase used games. Period. You can "trade-in" your game to select retailers, which really is just revoking the license from your account. But they never mention purchasing used games whatsoever.

You can trade, you can trade-in. You cannot purchase.

So you think Gamestop and etc are just going to have stacks of used X1 games on their shelves? Of course you can purchased used games.

Why are people getting so knotted up about this? It is basically Steam but with stricter online requirements (24 hour check) and the ability to actually trade your games. We've been doing this for years now, welcome to the digital age people.

It's because if people want to get physical boxes, they can't resell or lend without restrictions. Steam is DD only platform so that's expected.

What exactly construes one of the ten family members? What's stopping people making their friends into family?

I forsee some intriguing Xbox One prenups.

People keep comparing it to Steam and I want to disagree so bad but...hmmm.

Regardless, I will not purchase based on what has been clarified. If Sony does the right thing and goes against this (honestly seems unlikely) then this industry might be salvaged from a big crash.

fired zero bullets in the orphanage.
Wouldn't the 'family' setup work for friends too? Basically like a way to gameshare your entire library with 10 people.

Hold on, friend! I'd love to share with you some swell news about the Windows 8 Metro UI! Wait, where are you going?
This sounds pretty good to me actually. I like the sharing feature.

Jaffe's already coming up with strategies:

Yep, fucking over consumers will ROCK. Don't these people realise that consumers don't like to be abused? The people saying 'fuck this' will heavily outweigh the few more dollars screwing consumers will bring in..

1) Add 10 friends to a shared account
2) Each friend pays $6 for a new game
3) Share as needed
????
4) Profit?

I'm not buying this console though. Maybe in a few years.

This is what I hope Microsoft can prevent. Sad that Microsoft's generosity will probably bite them and publishers.

I can already see 10 friends buying one copy of Forza Motorsport 5, paying $6 each. Then add it to their "family" list of games, and all 10 people get Forza Motorsport 5 for the price of one cheap game. Really screwing over Turn 10, now 10 people play their game for the price of one.

The policy would be fantastic if it was limited to Consoles on the same network only. Or even if only one family member can play the game at a time, just like real life. Really hope Microsoft finds a way to avoid abuse.

So basically, if microsoft turns off the servers when Xbox Two is out, then this entire generation of games is wiped out permanently?

Get yourself and a group on 9 other people and only pay 6$ for a retail game. It's like PSN game sharing, only with double the amount of users!

Except you can't play at the same time. PSN didn't care if all five people played at the same time. So in a way cool, but not as good as PSN.

The no-fee thing is pretty much the only negative rumor that it turns out isn't true, then?

Let's hope Sony doesn't have all/any of these policies. I will absolutely hesitate before making purchases if I have these restrictions on my content.

Absolutely, yes. It's a lot better than Steam and I love Steam.

Games that are nearly double the price and don't let you mod are better? Steam let's you play offline too, and the internet is pretty much the entire point of a PC nowadays, so it's not like one wouldn't have it.

I have to assume 'family members' are accounts linked to the home console, and there will be restrictions on how you can change that. Otherwise people would be trying to get around all the other borrowing restrictions.
