WAIT WHAT, they blackout the emails but not the Sign off name.

that is terrible if your going to leak privilege information make sure no one can get chought :(

also YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

PREY 2 :D:D:D:D HYPE !!!!!
Raf is the creative director of Prey 2 doing a group e-mail to the studio, not their source.

Not really. It is their property, they can do with it what they will. They do not have to answer to anyone if they cancel it, publish it, never talk about it again. Doesn't mean we have to like it, but we are not owed anything.

Not directed at you, but too many people incorrectly think things are owed to them when their not.

Edit: Beaten, badly.

Yeah, about that.

All the public knows about this game is that it had an amazing E3 presentation, and then got cancelled. Rather unceremoniously at that; remember the last-minute tweets from employees about Bethesda pulling the plug on GDC talks about the game?

Of course no one is literally "owed" anything, but Bethesda's PR around this game has been bungled terribly. If the game really is still in development, they are helping absolutely no one - not disappointed fans, not the developers, not themselves - by keeping the cards close to their chest and continuing to let "Bethesda fucked up Prey 2 for all of us" be the reigning public opinion.

Not apologists. You may not like it, I don't, but the people who are saying we are owed an explanation are wrong is all.

We are their customers, we deserve respect and not being lied to, but corporate apologists tend to forget that. The "I can't comment on that" was invented for some reason.

owwwww but still I would still NEVER let anyone know about how you got that information to protect people.

Because of this I would imagine Raf having a very bad day :(
Even though it was an internal email.

I refuse to put any effort into figuring out any of the context surrounding this article. Instead, I am enraged that a company cannot release info about their own games when they see fit. Again, this rage will be felt without understanding why this article is news.

They originally did.

They just decided to split it up after Dishonored shipped.

I noticed it was kind of fishy that their job postings were hiring tons of senior tech people for Arkane France and tons of senior level design/art people for Arkane Austin, but presumably they used to handle tech in Arkane Austin and Level Design/Art in Arkane France.

Any idea how big each team/studio is ?!

Now that I read this internal email and have been thinking about it, it seems Arkane is rather happy to work on an IP that's not even theirs rather than do something new. Well, I guess some devs do like to that kind of thing.

Hopefully it ends up being a nice game.

I blame Stumpokapow for this.

Hahaha, oh man. Also, thanks for the coverage of the game so far, Jason. Specially with Bethesda's tactics to get developers.

Probably just want it to be a surprise. Not sure why they would really care that much though, lots of games get sort of "ousted" prior to their official reveals.

That being said, I HOPE this is true, huge fan of the original Prey, so many unique ideas and just a great FPS. Not the best ever but it was a lot of fun.

I guess cool that it's still a game. Don't know how interested I am considering it's no longer in Human Head's hands.

I see, thanks for the info Nirolak.

It seems both Dishonored 2 & Prey2/whatever.they.name.it are still way off.

Yeah the original Kotaku article had a target date of 2016 for Prey 2.

I suspect Dishonored 2 will probably be closer to 2015.

Using it for a SS spiritual successor seems like a very dumb move. If they want to get something out of the IP then maybe they can sell it?

I'm not sure anyone else is actually interested.

It's not exactly a premium brand.

Also from the RPS article

If anyone from Human Head wants to get in touch with us press sneak fucks to let us know what happened on their side, they’re very welcome to.

We might see this blown open pretty soon here.

Earlier I wrote Todd Harvey instead of Harvey Smith. I would like to correct myself and state that Harvey Smith is actually the guy on what is presumably Dishonored 2.

But even at a million sales, the game was in development hell for a decade, there's no way the first game earned back the cost of developing it. Sounds like the sequel is following in the footsteps of the original game, and I don't see how it will ever be worth the trouble for Zenimax.

Well Prey 1 and its long development wasn't under Bethesda, they just bought the IP recently(in 2009). so for Bethesda they just look at the fan and followers of the game (Zenimax their lost in Prey 2 wasn't that big I guess since HH is small and they killed HH's Prey 2 project pretty fast)

At this point I don't think it makes sense to treat Arkane as a separate entity. We should refer to them at most as Arkane/Zenimax as it's obvious that they are completely absorbed into and approve of the dirty publisher tactics of Zenimax.

No.

Arkane has to do what they are told by the higherups at Bethesda/Zenimax. They are not in control of the ship.

Stockholm syndrome sets in fast.

Edit: For the poster above me: No amount of corporate cowtowing would involve calling journalists 'press sneak fucks'.

You have to laugh at the press sneak fucks. Classy.

I'm not bothered about the charade really. Developers denying games happens quite often.

Hahahaha, this is golden. I feel for Human Head, but I can't say I'm not excited to see what Arkane is gonna do. Also I guess System Shock 3 was a typo but if not maybe they just mean they want to make a game inspired by their ideas of what System Shock 3 could be. I'm really not sure.

Raph is a really good dude. It's a shame someone felt they had the right to share his email with the world :/ I'd be pissed too

I think the undercurrent of this whole thing is how utterly idiotic the hyper-secrecy surrounding game projects is this day in age, and the ludicrous extent publishers will go to to hide the existence of their projects.
