Didn't knew the green team was so excited for this.

On a side note I imagine this is what it looks like inside the "Microsoft / Activision Deal Approval Watch |OT|"

played the PS5 version. It has some screen tearing at times, fps drops etc. Story is great and characters are the strong point. Gameplay is improved as well but some previous weapons are missing like acid rounds, which makes fighting the armored enemies a nightmare and just an annoyance. Only other complaint I have is uneven pacing. Like mid game, the story slows down to explain a lot, and rats don't play a factor till the final 3rd act. But boy does it look amazing to see this many rats on the screen.

It's a 7-8 for me.

I thought the first one was average but this one seems like a good improvement on everything, first and foremost level design and player's autonomy.

It's a shame the performance issues seem to drag down the game. Asobo could've done better on that front.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
I'm not sure if there's supposed to be a day 1 patch or something ?

but for PC folks who don't see RT, that might be the reason.

Will wait for 60fps or it's a skip even if on GP.
1440p40, with the consoles still dropping frames.
Unless their patch comes with a shit ton of optimizations I dont think we are gonna be seeing a true 60fps mode on consoles.
Imma hazard a guess and say they dont want the framerate dropping drastically in the heavy sections.
The stages with dem rats filling the screen probably tank performance well below 60 so they just decided to lock it to 40 instead.

Strange they dont offer a VRR lets see what we can get mode.
Atleast with that people could/can enjoy 60fps for sections where it allows then pray VRR saves them in scenes where the FPS drops into the 40 - 50 range.

Just played on SX. Graphics are great. Maybe not Unreal 5 engine great but they definitely are a big step up from the first game and give me some next gen feels.

Framerate not so great. It's pretty stable but feels 30-40 fps (I have a c8 which does 120hz but not vrr). The environments are impressive with good geometric density and stuff looks detailed far into the distance. I wouldn't say it's blurry at all. Iq is pretty good.

The motion blur though is brutal but I can't afford to turn it off due to the low-ish fps. Shame they can't get this running at 60 but then again no devs have been able to get demanding games this gen to also be 60 without turning down settings.

The game itself seems improved in every way. It moves at a brisk pace while also doing a good job of presenting the story. There is this big town area that reminds me of UC4 when you're in that market area with lots of npcs all going about their business. That was impressive especially coming from a smaller studio. Animations are still not great but not terrible either.

How are people getting it to be 40fps on series x?

edit, wait nvm.,figured it out.

Performance is rough but maybe there will be a patch. With those kinds of numbers I'm assuming the game is quite impressive, visually?

It's seriously locked to 40fps at 60hz? That's incredibly stupid if true. Or is that only at 120hz?

I see this game is also coming to Switch. So what can we expect there? 480p at 15-20FPS? Performance is rough for these next-gen consoles - maybe they'll scale back the amount of rats? That delta is just so large, it'll be interesting to see how they pull it off.
Switch version is cloud-based.

My understanding is it’s 40 fps at 120Hz like the modes Sony added to their first party games.

the final conflict section was too much...could have ended perfectly at the house before she left again.
I think the California section was pretty good combat wise and felt refreshing looks wise. If te story ended in the theatre I would of been annoyed.
Even though the island and bridge scenes were pretty good

I’ll play this on my steam deck and TV via GeForce now , seems like the PS5 version is a bit of a technical mess.

What I don't understand is why aren't the next gen consoles getting some of the same options that PC gets? This isn't the ps4 pro/xb1x anymore, the new consoles are much more in line with the PC, yet console gets no option for contact shadows/aa/texture detail/lighting etc

It feels like we're back in 2019 where the PC could do so many things those consoles couldn't yet we just got a major hardware upgrade. The gap should have closed some but we get the same lack of settings options that last gens mid gen upgrade systems lacked

I loved TLOU2 being longer
Me too! Recently seeing that so many people had a problem with LoU2's length which is crazy to me. We never get AAA wide linear games with that much length and no padding. It's not like the story telling was bad either. I can understand people not liking the story but it was done well enough to remain interesting throughout.

Unlike G-sync, most VRR displays do not work under ~48fps. so VRR won't save you in that 40-50 range. If you can't hit 48fps, than its best to just lock at 40fps. smoother than 30, so it's the best compromise you can hope for.

You want a settings menu like the PC version?

Already on PC where everyone knows the first thing you should do is go to the settings menu, people dont use it enough and rather run to forums/twitter/reddit.
You really think console players are gonna bother reading a full settings menu and even attempting to understand whats what?
Theres a reason they have a console....its more plug and play for them.
They dont want to tinker, devs know they dont want to tinker, so try to make life as easy as possible for them.

40@120 obviously.
Yep runs in divisable refreshes, smart but ideally should have an unlocked frame rate option so everyone can use VRR to its max.
Yeah id hope the first patch is for a VRR unlocked mode just to see how high the engine can actually go.
Right now it drops into the 20s so I dont think a 60 lock is realistic without some heavy heavy heavy optimizations.

Very poorly optimized it seems.

Edit: Do you mean options for setting each of those things to low/medium/high etc? That doesn't really make sense on console, half the point of consoles is that games run at the optimal settings for the hardware by default (or with a few presets depending on what you prioritize - performance or image quality - as we often see nowadays).

Devs can hardcode LFC into games, which is why Spiderman/The Last of Us have VRR unlocked modes that dont break VRR under 48fps.

Or CPU/GPU intensive when shit hits the fan and they would rather have a flatter frametime graph.
Im sure if they release a VRR unlocked mode, youll see that the game can hit 60+ a good portion of the time, but once things get hectic, it drops down....a big change in the frametime graph will feel worse than just having a flatter line all the time.

So the green rats invaded the ps5 version to cause frame drops?

I'm Sure it will be patched.

I loved the first game so super excited but a little gutted to hear its padded out. Still, I'm hyped will try on xbox at 40 fps if I can deal with it I'll stick if not its the PC version on gamepass. Is there rtx or anything that would tip me to PC?
Apparently it’s uncapped framerate when using vrr at least on Xbox

"A few performance issues, some slightly underbaked characters, and a constantly whispering Amicia do detract from the experience"

This really got to me in the first one, along with Hugo's incessant whining lol. I did finish it, but it sucks that this seems to be an issue with this new one (the whisper talking) SHUDDER

They do offer a vrr mode

Loved the first one. Thought this was be a huge upgrade now they had a bigger budget but more of a good thing is ok.

Won't be playing it anytime soon though in the hope of a 60 fps patch.

I mean better frame rates have literally been the best thing about this gen. Can't believe that's flown above devs' heads.

There is no 60fps option on consoles, this is what we get

Xbox Series S: 1080p/30fps | 40fps on 120hz

Xbox Series X: 1440p/30fps | 40fps on 120hz

PS5: 1440p/30fp | 40fps on 120hz

I loved the first game, i will get this on pc instead.
...and at least on PS5 (on a 120Hz TV) the motion blur implementation absolutely sucks balls. I recommend disabling it (and this is from someone who appreciates a good implementation of per-object motion blur).

Looking at my pc performance i don't think 1080p 60 is possible on console.

Hurts like a rat bite on the ass I can't play it for few more days but I'll be with you all soon! Have fun!

SkillUp says this is pretty much a Naughty Dog Uncharted/Last Of Us knock off.

Hmmmm.

Bit disappointing. Was hoping for a more similar game to the first one.

Powering through the first right now so I can hop in later! Its been fun so far, moves along fairly nicely and doesn't seem to overstay its welcome. I'll be GP greenratting this baby. Can't wait to see the nice old architecture and neat vistas, there are a few cool places in the first that get the imagination going.

Oh yeah, at least 20 pages of fighting over very minor differences. I always like to read those though they're usually hilarious.
