An Urban Planning reconstruction & renewal simulator where the player is responsible for halting crime, removing squalor, revitalizing distressed neighborhoods all without displacing or replacing current residents with newer, richer residents and subsequently causing runaway gentrification and merely moving the needful from one slum to another... in space.

Burnout meets Mad Max

Post apocalyptic story driven M rated arcade racing game, with a gritty story of a guy just trying to survive. But no on foot sections like Mad Max, car only. Retains classic Burnout style driving and spectacular wrecks, but this time, the M rating is leveraged to also show the violence of what happens to the body in such a violent crash. Complete realistic mutilation of the body in addition to the car. Add organic power ups like NFS HP to add a whole new layer to car combat. Open world is retained from Paradise but unlike Paradise, missions/events are closed off except where the open world might make sense (like a hunt and kill mode) All modes from paradise return but expanded upon (EG when eliminated from stunt run, you can still hunt down and kill the remaining drivers) With new modes added (Maybe a hunt mode?)

Car crashes are ramped up to levels never seen outside of BeamNG leveraging the power of Frostbyte destruction, with every piece of the car dynamically and realisticly breaking apart based on how you crashed. Depending on how you crash, your body can get ejected out of the car flatout style, with realistic damage/mutilation to the body. While progression is still primarily driven by completing events like racing/road rage etc, every chapter you complete you get an NFS Payback style action mission inspired by the F&F movies as a way to cap off the chapter. Online mode basically an expanded version of what already exists in Paradise, with improved online challenges, and maybe even special co-op missions in addition to normal PVP modes.

Sound design is taken to the next level on PS5 with 3D audio, with the ability to hear every piece of the car crunch, break, and bounce off of the ground. Every tire screetch when drifting, every opponent around accelerating/shifting/braking. DualSense trigger resistence taken to max levels when you slam into a wall or tailgate an opponent.

Soundtrack ditches tortured soul rock in favor of full heavy metal to go with the setting/tone of the game. Brings back the classic EA trax system where you can decide what songs play and when, with the option to shuffle and disable individual songs. Expanded to where you can make different playlists for different event types.

And of course, all possible accessibility options like full button remapping, disable resistent triggers, and anything deaf/blind players need to enjoy the game.

An RPG with no main quest. All side quest. No guidance what so ever. Just you existing in the world building a reputation and creating stories with the organically evolving world.

Comedy Hear Me Out GIF by Neesin

A modern-looking Pokemon game with polish, made by developers who give a shit (and have the budget to), and which at least runs at a constant 30fps (I know, I know, asking for the moon).

A WWII campaign but from the point of view of a young German soldier who has to go to war and becomes a victim of propaganda. He thinks he is doing the right thing and becomes the perpetrator of terrible tragedies, but is praised and celebrated for it by his comrades and officers. Nothing is glossed over - one carries out orders, kills the enemy, kills innocents, devastates foreign lands leaving ashes and emptiness.

The problem with this "game" would be that it would probably be seen as a glorious recreation of the wartime life of a German compatriot by neo-Nazis and morons who still think WWII was a good thing, but at the same time it would reflect the strength and impact of this experience, as it draws attention to it and reflects the cruelty of this era to the player in a completely different way than has always been done before.

No happy ending, no sudden awakening, no rethinking.

My grandfather himself told me WWII stories in the 90s and was of the opinion that everything was with good intentions and that he had done the right thing. This shocked, impressed and influenced me so much that I had to deal with this topic, wanted to know more and dealt with the dark history of our grandparents.

Waiting for this since I played my first MoH games 2 decades ago.

For some reason I really want an in-depth casino simulator.

Kinda like Planet Coaster and Zoo Tycoon, but with a casino that you build from the ground up. And a hotel, and sports arena.

I literally have no idea why though.

In the Forgotten Realms of Faerun, beneath the bustling city of Waterdeep, there is the grandfather of all dungeons: Undermountain.

A massive labyrinth, ruled by Halaster the Mad Mage, packed with just about anything you can imagine, Undermountain has been a an AD&D staple since 2nd edition. There was one attempt to turn it into a game with the miserable Descent to Undermountain in 97, but it was a steaming pile. I'd love to see either an isometric or first person party based rpg within this mega dungeon.

Hell, I'd like to see more of the classic DnD modules adapted to the video game space. Troika's Temple of Elemental Evil was great, despite its flaws. Computer versions of Expedition to the Barrier Peaks, Bloodstone Pass, Vault of the Drow, etc.

I've always wanted a realtime cannonball game.
Using streetview level graphics and real time traffic you need to race from x to y against online opponents/bots. Other than at the start, you might never see your opponents again, you're dealing with real world traffic and can take any path you want. Where streetview graphics are not available, ai fills in the gaps. Your have to gas up, forced to take 30 minute health breaks, have random car maintenance issues, slow downs via getting police tickets (which you can try to avoid) etc etc. Police locations are randomized but based on known data from Waze. You can take absolutely any path you want and everything is real world (ie where the gas stations are, getting to a mechanic, having to call and wait for service etc) Each game is minimum 24 hours long and new races launch every 4 hours from 8am to 8 pm so you can jump into a new race when ever.

So basically the thrill of cannonball without the need for a real car and real consequences of driving at ridiculous speeds.

Cannonball Run isn't just a movie, but a real life race. Check it out on Youtube, awesome stuff. I'd play that.

A new FPS (first person snowballer), Modern Snowfare.

Snow laden maps of wonderful white powder.

Gear up before the match with you gloves of choice: Thermal, sticky wool, leather, fingerless, or brave the cold with your bare skin.

Choose from powdery snow, for those dispersed mid throw area of effects; compact snow for your accurate mid damage; sludgey snow with hidden grit for that extra damage; and the rare Iceball for those accurate high damage one shot killers.

Look for the bonus yellow snow patches to blind those enemies with the sweet smell of ammonia.

Or get lucky enough to pick up rarer dog turd pile of snow, sticky, smelly and light up any enemy on the map with an accurate shot.

Now including a new next-gen snow making mechanic in real time on the battlefield.

Ok, I'm thinking far too much about this....

A procedurally generated open world game that has the traversal mechanics of Death Stranding and Red Dead online and involves archaeology. You would dungeon crawl, delve into caves (both dry and filled with water) whilst surviving the elements and maybe combat against wildlife and some people. Everything you find would be procedurally generated and placed. These finds have different levels of rarity (a lot like current RPG loot). You can either sell these for large amounts of money in a worldwide black market economy, keep these for yourself or send them to 'the museum' (more on that later). Some of these items would give you buffs, curses, or be better weapons or tools etc. Each expedition would be dangerous, you would have a carry weight a lot like Death Stranding and different tool sets that compliment certain digs. Once you set up a dig site you would then need to survive the duration it takes to complete it. It could be one day or many, the longer it takes the more dangerous it gets. You would need to hunt and fight for survival.

Of course there would be a levelling system. The better you get, the better your tools and techniques get. You can then hire teams to help if you have the budget. Better diggers that bring the time of these digs down, stronger personnel to carry supplies and guard your campsite.

The tone of it would need to be semi-chill. A mix of resource management and sporadic violence. Keep the combat to a minimum so that you're constantly on edge if something goes wrong. As you get more successful you can set up companies, these would compete on an online leader board (the museum). There would then be online seasonal content. Every few months there are unique finds in this world but they are unique and finite in some way. Either the stats attributed to them or unique designs. Hopefully this would then create a prestige system amongst online companies. All of these unique finds would make their way into a global online museum (kind of like a player hub) where everyone can meet up and show off their finds. The companies responsible for these finds would be listed next to these finds in this museum. This means that the prestige of making it onto the leader board is only possible if you don't sell these items on the global black market. So you have to choose between online notoriety or monetary gain from selling in obscurity.

p.s only crazy because I'm implying Death Stranding has value

Hey GAF, what are some crazy video game ideas you'd like to play?

Imagine a Zelda game in space! :] I'd play. What about you? What kind of crazy video game ideas would you like to play?
Crazy idea for a game: Disney Renaissance characters in a Mortal Kombat-type fighter.

A not so crazy idea that I'm still disappointed never happened was the Dirty Harry game:

Hear me out. If I knew how to do anything with game engines I would try to make this but I can really only do level design in a Far Cry/Forge map editor form.

The Land that Time Forgot

Solo/4-8 player co-op, light survival elements like crafting a shelter, etc.

Players are trapped on the mysterious island of Caprona and must escape via airplane or U-boat by finding parts and repairing either one before the active volcano erupts and destroys the island.

The enemies are stop motion dinosaurs that are animated at like 12 frames a second compared to everything else and tribes of cavemen.

A game that starts out as a JRPG where you and your teenage band of friends are going around being heroes and trying to save a kingdom from evil. The game’s story is more linear, cutscene and narrative based like a JRPG would be and it would mainly be about you and your friends’ comradery and journey together.

You manage to win but with severe losses to the kingdom and to your group. You are the lone survivor, a time skip happens, and now the game switches over to a WRPG like an Elder Scrolls game where it’s now more about your interactions with getting to know the people in your kingdom through their quests and side quests, instead of your own character narrative being the focus.

It should do a good job of showing the differences of the two genres and also showing the difference of mentality when the young cast’s story is mainly focused more on the self, whereas the older story is focused more on those around you and your impact to their lives. It’s not meant to show the first half’s cast as selfish, it’s meant to show how we shift our opinions on what we consider important as we grow and mature as people.

EverydayBeast

thinks Halo Infinite is a new graphical benchmark
Developers give crazy ideas life (twilight princess, death loop etc.) other wise you wouldn’t have video games.

A pure destruction game.

Just a showcase for physics, but with a good game underneath. Push the hardware, use all the tricks in the book (some non-realtime destruction effects might need to be used where simulation taps out, whatever balance works, just give me a lot of a mess,) and work out play mechanics that let me play with the physics beyond the primary goals.

I'm thinking something like the N64 game Blast Corps, or a new Hulk game (not necessarily character-based like Red Faction Guerrilla, although obviously I'd take that in a heartbeat too.) It doesn't need to be totally balanced for play, just fun to mess with and some smart challenges for how to best use the destruction system. (I know there are games like TABS and Teardown and Besiege and Instruments of Destruction, which are all cool, but I want something better at hiding the voxels, as well as something more tailor-made for this gen.)

For now, I'd even take just a dumb shooter that has whoa-this-is-happening showy physics effects like the original Chaos in Robo Recall demo (which was "playable" in realtime at GDC 2019 yet never released as a project file, and actual projects made with UE Chaos have fallen short of this ideal even 2 years later (for various reasons that techies can dig into...) I just want this so I can shoot shit to pieces.

A spy game set in the Cold War as a KGB agent that is more about infiltration and stealing intel rather than constant shooting apart from maybe an assassination like you would in Hitman (unseen/unnoticed).

Or any type of game that has a story with you being the bad guy without even noticing it until the end of the game. Properly believing you did the right thing for all that time.

RDR3 with the mechanics from The Long Dark. It would require some tinkering of course. But imagine traversing to the mountains and having to fear the cold and really planning every voyage properly to survive.
