Damn it, Hillary Clinton is jumping on the Rockstar bandwagon

If you fuckers who live in NY don't call her office and tell her shut the fuck up and to honor your free speech rights, I'm going to lose faith in you all!!!

Damn it Hillary, you don't have to go that far to prostrate to the religious right so you can show you're a conservative democrat...

Hillary Clinton to take on Rockstar over Hot Coffee
Washington, DC press conference Thursday will see the New York Senator call for a Federal Trade Commission inquiry into the San Andreas mod.

Tomorrow in the country's capital, Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY) will call on the Federal Trade Commission to launch an inquiry into the "Hot Coffee" mod, sources have told GameSpot.

Clinton, a vociferous critic of violence in the media, will be joined by David Walsh, president and founder of the National Institute on Media and the Family; Mary Bissell, fellow at the New America Foundation; and Kiersten Stewart, director of public policy for the Family Violence Prevention Fund.

Clinton is expected to call on the FTC to determine who is responsible for the Hot Coffee mod, a modification that unlocks sexually explicit minigames in Rockstar's recently published PC version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

While the game is rated M, and therefore not readily sold to those below the age of 17, the mod is easily available online.

A statement distributed by the Senator's office this afternoon sets the scene, stating that "following recent reports revealing that the video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has graphic pornographic content which may be unlocked by following instructions on the Internet, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton will hold a press conference to discuss legislative solutions to keep inappropriate video game content out of the hands of young people." The statement makes no mention of asking the FTC to step in, but sources tell GameSpot that this request will be the centerpiece of the Senator's plea tomorrow.

Although there are far more outspoken politicians when it comes to regulating game content inappropriate for children, this is not the first time Clinton has looked into the issue. On her official Web site, Clinton lists "fighting the culture of sex and violence in the media" as part of her platform, and in March, she joined with Senators Joe Lieberman (R-CT), Sam Brownback (R-KS), and Rick Santorum (R-PA) to cosponsor legislation seeking $90 million over five years for research into how viewing different types of media (television, video games, and the Internet in particular) affects children's development.

Clinton plans on holding the press event at 10am in Room 485 of the Russell Senate Office Building.

i was about to ask what if the main character of GTA:SA was a woman and she was wielding a purple double-ended dildo, but that wouldn't be nice.

The ESRB already keeps them out of hands, or is supposed to. These political cocksuckers won't settle until they get flatout censorship.

Because if these things are like they usually are, they'll be trying to make videogames the scapegoat for parental responsibility, leading to a potential situation where all videogames are heavily censored.

Ideally a mature discussion would arise that would place greater onus on parents and retailers to prevent the material getting into childrens hands, and for developers and publishers to be more honest about the nature of their content.

More likely is that it's political showboating to appeal to the rightwing, who want to censor anything that doesn't fit with their point of view.

I am not a politician that can make differences. The politician holding the conference can...smartass.

Help me out guys: doesn't this mod unlock "sex" minigames in which CJ and his woman are FULLY CLOTHED?
Apparently the bitch is naked. I don't get the big deal. recall the fucking games, change them, send them back out, and delete the fucking mod. BAM. Then pay a fine. End deal. No harm really done. Politicians want heads though, and there's some idiots around here that are supporting it because they hate R*.

I can give less shit about Rockstar, this is about someone else trying to tell me what I can or cannot play, like the National Institute on Media and Family who will be standing next to Hillary tomorrow, since this game is for kids and doesn't have a big M on the front box:

PARENT ALERT: HIDDEN PORNOGRAPHY EASILY ACCESSIBLE IN
GRAND THEFT AUTO: SAN ANDREAS

FAQs

Why a warning about the video game, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas?
We have learned that explicit pornographic scenarios are available to players of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. The player directs scenes of explicit sexual activity.

Do kids know about this?
One of the reasons we issued our parental alert is that we found directions to the pornographic material on popular teen websites.

What is “Hot Coffee?”
“Hot Coffee” is the name of the pornographic scenes. In the game, CJ, the lead character, is invited in for “hot coffee” by women after dates. It is in those scenes that the player can activate the pornography.

How did the pornography get into the game?
We don’t know the answer to this question yet. Either the game publisher, Rockstar, programmed the code onto the disk which was then discovered by avid gamers OR what is know as a “mod” was created by “modders” and downloaded over the Internet to be played with the game. Our computer experts are at work now to answer this question.

What about the rating?
This game was rated “M” (Mature) by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB). We always thought the game deserved an “AO” (Adults Only) for it’s graphic violence and brutal murders of women. The pornography certainly means that parents should consider the game “Adults Only.” If it turns out that the code is on the disk, then this raises serious questions about the whole ratings integrity.

What should a parent do?

Hey, Hillary, how about reminding parents that they're the ones who are ultimately responsible for keeping objectionable content out of the hands of their children? I'm not sure if she's attempting to ramp up her profile for a possible Presidential bid or what, but she's making me very ashamed to be a Democrat right now. (And coming from me, that's a helluva thing to say.)

He's close enough though. Or maybe he switched...

Anyway, who wants to bet that no on involved in any of these news "events" have even seen a picture of the scene, let alone actually witness the "graphic pornographic content"?

So what exactly is the fuck wrong with that statement? Keeping games with mature content out of the hands of young people? The same impressionable young people whom after playing such games go out and shoot shit?

OMG I can't stand this poser. I'm a freaking liberal but she pisses me off. If she runs in 2008 I'm voting for Nader or McCain.

If I remember correctly, this mod does not show any XXX material, just CJ and a chick fully clothed in bed. There are "XXX" mods for the Sims, where is she on that issue? Nowhere.

Thats a good fucking point. What the hell is the Sims 2 rated? it better not be anything below M, the woohoo scenes are too rauncy for my poor soft soul...

but isn't the issue here is cause the GTA:SA offensive code is actually on the disc, and the mod just merely 'unlocks' it?

i haven't been following this closely cause quite franky, i'm sick of hearing it

'Legislative solutions' shouldn't be a parent's first recourse when it comes to child-rearing. The problem is that far too many parents just don't want to be bothered with following what their kids are playing, listening to, or watching on TV. They want the federal government to sanitize the media for them, so they can feel safe leaving their kids in front of the television or PC while they go out to earn money for that second SUV. Yes, that is a generalization, but there are far too many parents out there like that. It infuriates me that not only are they in a hurry to abdicate responsibility for their childrens' upbringing to the government, but that politicians would gladly pander to those people to the point of possibly censoring the media (which affects everyone).

The fact that the code is on the disc is just bad. I, and the blood (and vote) thirsty politicians don't give a crap if it's playable or not, it's THERE.

Rockstar could've avoided this whole mess by not putting it on the disc.

Yes, there are XXX mods for The Sims, but does that game involve killing people, jacking their cars, shit like that? The Sims is Candyland compared to GTA, gimme a break

i say all devs should put "extra" material in their games that would change the rating, then disable it, and if a hacker makes a code to enable it, then oh well...

imagine how cool it would be for a company to sell T or E rated games with hidden M material that is not normally unlockable, but a mod is released after sales die down...

Thank God for those Republicans, who would never do anything like try to censor things that offend their moral values!

this wont go any farther than jon stewart making fun of the absurdity of this pursuit.

ps. you'd rather the senate focus its attentions on stopping some little kid from discovering how to modify code while they could be making sure our troops are safe? lets just call ourselves france and be done with it.

I am willing to bet a shiny penny that it has more to do with her being opportunistic, preying on easy material that is meant to "Shock and Alarm!" to appear as a noble crusader, and start building an appearance of "having a moral compass" before a potential presidential bid

at least she has ripped on game content before, I am quite sure there are going to be opportunistic posers in this mix before all is said and done. She has danced around this hat before, genuine or not, retarded or not, at least its consistant (btw this is both ungenuine and retarded)

But thats just me, a "liberal" who believes in "personal responsibility", if such a creature even exists ::eyes ::roll

I can't tell if you're joking, but here's a hint: the people who try to ban books from libraries and certain films from video stores usually don't vote Democratic.

I was referring more to the people in office. Gore, Liberman, Hillary, Kennedy and several others have been spoken out about a need for censorship.

Republicans have been about media and literary censorship since Barry Goldwater invited all the fundamentalist Christian wackjobs to the party back in the late 60s.

Republicans = right side of political spectrum = conservative. They are going to try to censor things more than the liberals. Democrats = left side of political spectrum = liberal. They're going to be easier on these things. Then again, Lieberman and Hillary are both Democrats so you never know. Politics can be very odd.

P.S. I am moderate.

Vote 2008! Clinton and Lieberman, the two shining forces of video game censorship.

All jokes aside, Democrats have been much more outspoken for video game censorship than Republicans have been as of late. I guess they're just covering areas the Republicans haven't gotten to yet. ;-)

hey guys, no one cares what political affiliation you have. both sides are feckin wack jobs and hypocrits when it comes to this. thats why you should vote to have the constitution amended so that my main man Scott Bayo can run for President. ( i dont know why he'd need the constitution amended.)

ps. GTA mods are the controllers for the nintendo revolution.
