[DF] Doom Eternal PS5 vs Xbox Series S/X

One fanboy's amazing feature is another fanboy's secret sauce....a bit crazy, ain't it? I gave up trying to figure this shit out. The games look damn near identical this gen.
Pretty much. If you follow the PC space then it happens almost every year. Every new feature is always supposed to change the world and be a 'secret sauce' that never happens.

It's almost ironic given how much people have bashed real-time ray tracing.

Funny thing is that VRS isn't some amazing feature. It's just a means of squeezing out a bit more performance by shading things at lower res where people shouldn't notice the difference. It's a nice-to-have feature but it also isn't anything more than that.

People get stuck on the weirdest things.

And yet there's a whole thread full of people mad about it being used on Xbox and it not being supported on Playstation 5 despite many claims to the contrary by people for more than a year. The Xbox version of the game has the PS5 version beat in every category to the point there are people effectively calling VRS cheating, and people are digging into the most remote corners of anything they can find, playing games with footage and images and timestamps in videos at 400x magnification to claw out a PS5 advantage where none exists.

VRS isn't particularly special, but VRS Tier 2 does, indeed, appear to be a pretty amazing feature. Providing a roughly 10-15% improvement in performance which, at least in DOOM Eternal's case, directly results in a much higher overall image resolution, with the draw back being areas of the image you're not going to notice are shaded at a lower quality, is a terrific use of hardware for maximum effect. It's a "nice to have" feature only if performance and/or resolution doesn't matter to someone. And if that were the case, they probably wouldn't be in a thread comparing resolution and performance between consoles to make that statement in the first place.

Heeey what about the Stadia version? 🤣
Now seriously, I just plugged a 4k stadia capable laptop into my 65" oled and I need to know what to expect before buying DE.
My connection is 1Gbps fiber optic so don't worry about bandwidth.

so VRS Tier 2 saves roughly 10-15% rendering time in some scenes ? and Only possible on mighty xbox series s/x :messenger_tears_of_joy:
SW VRS 8 years old hardware
15.65 = 63 FPS

13.61 = 73 FPS

SW VRS saves 17% rendering time :messenger_grinning: 8 years old hardware :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Not tier 2, totally inferior.
They use a software emulated version of Tier 1.

Many console titles this gen will also be more heavily GPU shader limited, which makes this all the more important. And it will only improve and get better. They will further tune it throughout the gen as newer shader models from DirectX has improvements for VRS.

Talking about something you would never notice during gameplay or without a 400x zoom scrutinizing every minor detail is a very desperate gambit. Let's have a look at their next gen release on Series X and see what their game looks like then. Should be a fun one I'm sure.

The Xbox version of the game has the PS5 version beat in every category to the point there are people effectively calling VRS cheating, and people are digging into the most remote corners of anything they can find, playing games with footage and images and timestamps in videos at 400x magnification to claw out a PS5 advantage where none exists.

Looks like NXG didn't need 400x zooming to notice worse textures ( also reflections ), IQ on XSX because VRS. No, XSX didn't beat PS5 in this game in every category. If XSX does have worse textures and IQ, then it has it. No need to spin otherwise

And software VRS is way better than hardware VRS 1. Truly remarkable. No need to ignore it. Also, screenshots in that thread proves it.

Back from a ban, and straight away resurrecting a thread which has been dead for a week to continue the fight. Damn son

Even the developer has said the Series X has better image quality, that Tier 2 VRS is better than having a wider range of DRS that falls lower and more often. Also gives better performance as shown here.
Also software VRS is totally inferior to hardware Tier 2 and thats what Series consoles support.

Give FatKingBallman credit. He's dedicated to his console warring craft.

No doubt he was itching to post.

Check his post history. After a 2 week time out, a bee-line to Xbox and PS war posts including Greedfall Vs, this old Doom Vs, and of course a Sales unit Vs.
