Speaking of bundles, Forza Horizon 5 should be lighting up the charts soon right?!? I don't think bundles make that big of a difference.

Dunno how you got 500M.
The game is less than 3 months old, Still retailing at full price. Even if we are looking at an average retail price of $70, that pegs it at around $770M in revenue.
I would say $200M - $250M sounds about right for dev and marketing. $180M for dev and $70 for marketing.
That's like $520M - $570M of profit in just under 3 months!!!
Yeah, I know... but also consider that the split in digital to physical sales is increasingly trending towards digital. Then do not forget stuff like limited Edition versions of the game.Sony only keeps 100% of revenue from digital ps5 sales
And bundles had a $10 discount
500M was a lower end estimate
Hahaha this post are laughableHow can anyone doubt 11 million sales of GoWR... the thing was an event release and was one of the big reasons to buy a PS5. I expected close to Elden Ring (less but close) sales, but it seems to have died down right at the beginning of December. I'm not even a big fan of the last two GoW (just ok to me), but for sure they are hugely popular. they had devs and actors of the game on nightime tv, and whle old media still signifies a push into househould brand status.
The issue is, was it worth it in a market where AAA games are expensive and take forever (4 years and no derived income is unheard of in any other industry), and not all of these AAAs are guaranteed to even break even especially in a market where competition and time for your dollar is cutthroat, people really have no reason to buy full price releases when FOMO is not as strong as it used to be, you have people playing games like Minecraft, Fortnite and Warzone like MMOs, and without much barrier to entry and easy to get in and out, these games are like casinos, they keep there hooks in people with addictive progression models. How does old school AAA games compete with that?
There is a difference. If the console is also available unbundled, people buy the bundles voluntarily. If there is no unbundled console available, your only option is the bundle.Speaking of bundles, Forza Horizon 5 should be lighting up the charts soon right?!? Yeah when you consider these are 1st party sales so no royalty cuts going else where.....Assuming an average gross price of $65, that's $715 million in revenue on a budget of what, $150 million? Insane profit.
Is Day 1 Gamepass a mistake?
Let's not pretend it wasn't review bombed by chuds though.
Lol why are you so mad? The markets changing, you think people predicted a Netflix HBO Amazon Prime tvscape fifteen years ago? The same already is happening in gaming. Even Sony sees this, they're just not telling hardcore fans because it would piss them off. They have been giving tidbits.. you know like.. going heavily PC and GaaS multiplayer and countless remakes.Hahaha this post are laughable
Gow ragnarok are curently breaking record 11m in 2 months and this is your response tor this news? Youre a sad individual so stay mad
Also TLOU2 was banned in the Middle East.God of War is a longer running franchise, going back almost 20 years, with over 10 releases.
One had leaks. The other had none. One was bundled the other wasn't.
Of course it'll sell more.
This particular neo member seems familiar to me wonder if im guessing the right personLol why are you so mad? Go ahead though be proud of your #1 console and its #1 exclusives. I dont care.
In a sense they did, what do you think that ending was about and the conversation Odin had with Kratos about being a god people loved, people worshiped. The Kratos we know IS deadDidn't death stranding sell like 8 million within the first 3 months kind off expected Ragnarok to do double those numbers ... Would have been better if they killed off kratos but I guess money talks so they gone keep putting them out
I expect a lot of "neo members" to look for a negative spin with this news. To be fair, all sales threads go the same way though, no matter what console the game comes from. This particular neo member seems familiar to me wonder if im guessing the right person
Lucky them. Also TLOU2 was banned in the Middle East.
I'm only seeing bundled xsx on walmart, Amazon, and best buy. There is a difference. If the console is also available unbundled, people buy the bundles voluntarily. If there is no unbundled console available, your only option is the bundle.
Bundles always push the sales of games, but in times of console scarcity it pushes the sales enormously when the company almost only delivers the said bundle and very few unbundled consoles.
Edit: Recently checked several stores and you are right. Only bundles available except for the Micrososoft store.I'm only seeing bundled xsx on walmart, Amazon, and best buy.
What IS the general public? We live in the digital age/social media era. We're past the point as a civilization of the internet being a niche platform where only the nerds hang, as internet vernacular has become common use for a majority of English speakers.I don't think the general public knows or care about twitter rants and forum discussions. You will see once Hogwarts Legacy will be released how much little impact fanatics have on a multi billion market.
If TLoU2 underperformed (ie selling way less than the first game) it wasn't due the leaks or the woke agenda (if you look around you'll see a lot of similar themes in mainstream entertainment, or are we living on mars?).
Amen brother! I did the same and played 30 hours at GMGOW difficulty. Then I decided that the game symply wasn't fun that way and continued on hard. Still on it(hopefully close to the end)! The game is worth it but the hardest difficulty being open in a first playthrough was a poison for players like you and me I think. That's a lot of chicken dinners.
. . .gotta go back to the game at some point. Played on GMGOW and made it past the awful, AWFUL first encounters to getting the fire whip and having to blast through armor and was like "I'm out." I'll get back and play on HARD, but after trying GMGOW on the first game and not even getting past the first troll, I thought I would be able to do it here after getting past the opening (which while epic, was awful, AWFUL. . .mostly due to my lack of skill for this level of difficulty).
Here’s an article about CP2077, total budget (incl marketing) of $316 million. No, these numbers are quickly becoming the norm and will keep going up as long as the sales ceiling is high. I don’t think Ragnarok’s production values and marketing push was that far behind cp2077 but my guess it’s closer to that number than $150M.
https://www.gamesindustry.biz/cd-projekt-refunded-around-30-000-cyberpunk-2077-copies
$150 million total was a big budget game like 10 years ago.
CP was using a new engine wasn't it, and was made for 5 platforms. Ragnarok used an updated engine and had 2-platforms. I'd assume the budget was around half or less of 2077 given this context.
Wow PlayStation really got a cult following that even when he is Alive and well y'all think he is dead ... I can already see it now. Kratos gone be Alive for 2 more games cause money talks and then third game gone be just Atreus dealing with guilt blah blah blah and then fourth to finish another sage blah blah and fifth game gone start with the birth of his baby girl with that giant girl we met in Ragnarok and rinse and repeatIn a sense they did, what do you think that ending was about and the conversation Odin had with Kratos about being a god people loved, people worshiped. The Kratos we know IS dead
It took 2 whole years for The Last of Us 2 to reach 10 million, where almost half of which had been pre-orders.
The disc version of PS5 is also available on the Sony store. The Microsoft store has them davailable for 499.
You overestimate leaks and social bubbles. The game is one of the better reviewed games of all times, massive marketing campaigns, overwhelming hype. What IS the general public? We live in the digital age/social media era. We're past the point as a civilization of the internet being a niche platform where only the nerds hang, as internet vernacular has become common use for a majority of English speakers.
This generation of consumers buying decisions are influenced more now, than in any other time because of how fast information spreads, through the plethora of mobile devices and young adults with social media accounts. Twitter, Meta, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, etc. Are all platforms used by the general public.
Tlou2 very much was a video game that suffered from having more of a positive reception on release due to the story plot being leaked, on Youtube, the platform 99% of gamers use. So does the general public not include video gamers, or just people who buy items without researching them, reading articles and watching videos to make a purchase decision?
Cmon now. Stop it, lol.
Harry Potter situation isnt even comparable.
Sure, now it is. But it wasn't for almost complete 2022.The disc version of PS5 is also available on the Sony store.
Well, we inflate the US market by having US accounts, and some UK accounts for region 2 DLC’s.Lucky them.
So the only way a story advances in your opinion is if the protagonist dies? You should start a writing career mate you really on to something, ive never seen that one done before..Wow PlayStation really got a cult following that even when he is Alive and well y'all think he is dead ... Wanna bet kratos gone die we both know it. Don't deny it broSo the only way a story advances in your opinion is if the protagonist dies? You should start a writing career mate you really on to something, ive never seen that one done before..
Also of all the console makers to single out Sony as the one that milks IPs.. You are just detached from reality.
Naughty Dog: Crash Bandicoot -> Jak and Daxter -> Uncharted -> Last of us
Insomniac: Spyro -> Ratchet and Clank -> Resistance -> Spider man -> Wolverine
Gurilla Games: Killzone -> Horizon
Sucker punch: Sly Cooper -> Infamous-> Ghosts of Tsushima
Bend: Syphon Filter -> Days Gone
They rarely dwell on an IP no matter how successful. Its usually 4 or 5 games then on to the next one.
Honestly i dont care one way or the other tbhWanna bet kratos gone die we both know it. Don't deny it bro
And yes, as others have pointed out, this just points out the obvious TLOU2 underperformance. When all of Sony's older franchises are selling more on PS4/5, and incredibly more in the case of GOW, TLOU remained stagnant, requiring discounts to get to where it's at. BTW, going by sales, TLOU had the potential to be a much bigger franchise, as GOW's biggest seller before the 2018 PS4 game only did 6M. TLOU PS3 did 10M+.
And people want to bring up bundles. Did its stans ever ask, why isn't TLOU2 in more bundles? I'll give you the answer. Sony knows TLOU2 was a divisive game and isn't going to push as many console sales as GOW and SM will.
I assume this 'TLOU2 underperformance' must be a joke or something:Why are we talking about TLOU2's obvious sales underperformance in a God of War Ragnarok sales thread? Even the trolling that 11 million is not good enough is more on topic.
Lol what this ain’t avatar 2 lol, 50-70 mil on dev and 100-130 on marketing. No those were prices floating around 10 years ago for 360 cross gen AAA titles. It’s wayyyyy more money now. Companies are routinely dripping $300-$400 million total on a big game. God of War is probably not that much but not too far off either.
