Wow,that bad huh?

I mean I guess it's hypothetically possible there was a major spike in sales or something, but yeah--as of last year when there were two months in a row of top 10 per system leaked on VE3d, the cutoff for the top ten for the 360, PS3, and DS was 40k or a tad higher.

So even generously affording a bump, it's still probably 100k or less across both next gen versions.

ahahahaa

lttp - finally caught up.

BluRay v. DVD: I think the video market will fragment, and different media will cater to different niches. DD will cater to very old and very new titles (think NetFlix DD catalog and Comcast OnDemand catalog). DVD will be "good enough" for most titles. BluRay will have a market for things like Planet Earth specials, collector's editions (incl. sports championships and such).

BluRay v. DVD II: Have DVD's replaced CD's as the preferred media for music?

Wii launch demand v. ongoing demand: Is there a network / bandwagon effect for console hardware adoption? Does a larger userbase drive more sales because of word-of-mouth, 3rd party support, online & local multiplayer, etc? Then one should never expect the Wii to decline until it begins to approach saturation. Also, saturation typically is not a sudden event where one month = 700k, next month = 0, even in a sold-out scenario (although the supply constraint does make it difficult to model the adoption curve).

Wii accessories fragmenting the market: If motion+ is sold as an accessory, it will be successful as an accessory. As for fragmenting the game market, consider that there are > 1 million balance boards out there already. Do we have any numbers for We Ski?

Thanks, finally. :D

Someone should find a single, damn number outside the Top10, to calculate the other numbers. ;__;

I can´t find anything, I hope that thesimexchange is going to get the GTA numbers...

Anyone notice how the PSP is starting to sell amazingly well with no driving force for it?

Well there is a driving force, it's from the tide that turned in Japan in Sept 07. It's finally reaching these shores.

You are a treasure.

Oh joy, this again. People were saying the same thing years ago, except replace Blu-ray with "DVD" and DVD with "VHS."

I'm totally derailing the topic, and I apologize but...

Do you think Blu-ray will take over as DVD has done?

My guess is not until the players really catch on, and PS3 seems awful steep to me if I'm looking to buy a new movie player. Where as I think DVD's really took off when they hit the 100 dollar price point for the players. And same with when the DVD computer players hit a lower price point.

So in the Top 20

Wii: 7
360: 5
NDS: 4
PS2: 2
PS3: 2

That is actually better than I thought for NDS since we usually never see 1 game in the Top 10

No wonder Final Fantasy is coming to 360 as well, thats $$$$ for Square to earn in profit

This is needless to say, but PS3 software performed pretty badly. Guitar Hero: Aerosmith and even DBZ were lower than Call of Duty 4, which didn't even make the top 20.

I bet Game Party and Mario and Sonic at the Olympics (Wii) were right outside the top 20, too. :lol

Oh, and where's the PSP list?

Fuel on the fire that I haven't seen (read) posted yet:

What about on the computer front? Files are only going to be getting bigger and bigger. I don't see a scenario where Blu-ray wouldn't take over on the PC side. Heck, you're going to need some space for all those digital downloads. Unless the retail market switches to selling software on flash (which is a viable replacement for disks, on the PC market,) if users want big portable size, Blu-ray is where it's at.

Meh, and Hard Drives are also getting bigger and bigger. Until price goes down and read speed goes up, don't expect Blu-ray to get a foothold in the PC gaming industry.

So true,

Valkyria Chronicles is a high budget game (that will likely receive some critical acclaim), and you know it will sell like SHIT.

As much as I want the game to succeed and sell 300,000+ copies, there is no chance in hell. The game will likely not even get past 150k, especially since Sega is stupid enough to publish it in November, instead of September like originally planned. Good job guys, put a big budget strategy RPG right between big Sony games like Resistance 2.
You need to chill about VC already

HDDs can get bigger and faster, but they aren't getting more portable. He wasn't comparing Blu Ray discs to HDDs (that is, as a permanent storage solution) but to DVDs (as a portable storage solution). I definitely see his point there. In a year or two, typical high level PC games will be 10+ gigs on average, and I really don't want to deal with those games burning on to multiple discs.

I know, but it sold 80k or something last month and was 16th or something, I can't remember exactly.

But still, it had a good run.
Don't the big DS sellers usually make a comeback every once in a while? It'll probably happen with Galaxy - next to Wii Sports it's Nintendo's flagship game.

Last month the #10 game sold 102k, this month the #10 game sold 260k. Galaxy could easily have pulled another 80k and still miss the top 20.

Its called making judgments with limited data. Its already coming up on 7 million WW. Not many games sell better than that at near that speed

Unlikely, since its not on the Wii Top 10 either

Well the Wii top 10 list also contain higher numbers than last month. It's possible, and I don't see why the game would drop much from month seven to month eight.

The Wii is becoming, very much, this generation's PS2 for overall software sales. If anyone else recalls when we got the full lists, PS2's Top 20+ would usually all reside above the cutoff for the other consoles' Top 10s.

It's pretty incredible to see really. Isn't it incredible, though, that real games are in the top 10? Wouldn't it be nice if more developers saw this and took heed? Please pay attention guys.

Jesus look at the post after yours it didn't even make the per-console top 10. holy fuck that's ghastly. Based on previous leaked months it would have done <40-50k. Yikes!

When you market a game as a DVD, smart, thrifty gamers are going to rent it. Add in the fact that it's horrible...and you have Phil Harrison losing quite a bit of sleep.

edit: And by "both next-gen" versions...it didn't even see release on PS3 :lol

It's probably at 100k WORLDWIDE.

Christ, outside of 1 or 2 exceptions, the 360 & PS3 top tens are mirror images of each other in terms of what games sold.

It's also another testament to how brilliant Nintendo's execution of the blue ocean strategy with the Wii and DS has been.

Glad to see the pinnacle of gaming get the sales it deserves so far. Congrats Kojima and team, hope the sales keep pumping from word of mouth. I can't believe it did so well in a non-holiday season. Really incredible.

So where did you get 92.467 from?
Lego Indiana is reported to have sold 1.1 million units. We know the totals for Wii, PS2, and DS (824k), which leaves 276k for the 3 remaining versions. Since the 360 version sold the most of the remaining versions, it had to have sold at minimum of a third of the remaining ... or 92k.

There are several problems with this....

First, the 1.1 million figure is heavily rounded. The remaining data could be much larger or much smaller than 276k.

Second, 92k is just a minimum for the 360 version. It has no other bearing on the remaining games. All of those "0-92.467" are wrong because Indiana 360 could be (for example) 125k and the other games would just be less than that... not "92.467." '0-whatever' is ugly formatting anyway.

Third, US totals using periods to separate the thousands and hundreds... WTF is wrong with you Captain Smoker.
