Hard to really pick just 5 or to even rank them in any order. I just know that these games that I've played in the last few years have been amazing. Many have already been mentioned but worth doing so again. Probably heaps more that I'm missing as it's late but yea you get the picture.

Disco Elysium
Pentiment
Stasis: Bone Totem
Citizen Sleeper
Norco
Jupiter Hell
Blasphemous
Halls of Torment
Shredder's Revenge
Chronicon
Medieval Dynasty

Nice to see Blasphemous mentioned here. Can’t wait for the sequel - already pre-ordered and will probably be the game I dig in before Starfield.

Hollow Knight
I unassumingly picked it up from a closing video store. It became one of my favorite games of the decade.

Outer Wilds
I've heard a lot and picked it up. I wish I could erase my memory and rediscover it all over again. Both it and it's expansion.

River City Girls
I've played many couch beat em ups with my brother. Few where as fun as this one!

Hades
There are many excelent rogue likes, but few manage to have a proper story.

Subnautika
I only played recently after the many quality of life updates and it's an amazing experience.

I don't play indie games very often because most of them are shovelware to me.

But the ones I actually paid money for in past half decade were:

Signalis
Highfleet
Brigador (although it's "too old", I guess. But more people need to play it.)
Astlibra Revision
Silica

Top 5 in this exact order.

1. Crosscode
2. Hades
3. Noita
4. Binding of Isaac
5. Enter the Gungeon

Honorable mentions in no particular order:
Hollow Knight, Souldiers, Yoku's Island Express, Dave the Diver, Tinykin, Blazing Beaks, Dead Cells, Cult of the Lamb

2017 - Hollow Knight
2018 - Celeste (The Messenger is a close runner up and deserves a mention)
2019 - Untitled Goose Game (until perhaps I play Outer Wilds)
2020 - Hades
2021 - Kena: Bridge of Spirits
2022 - Stray (haven’t played many from this year, Tunic will probably take its place once I get around to it)

This year I am hoping for a strong showing from Sea of Stars. If the demo is any indication, Sabotage Games is going to blast off.
