Manga (or manga story arcs) that never got a proper anime adaptation

im happy with that. not sure if an anime could create the same experience.

Most people tend to get into manga through anime, and shonen anime in particular is often more popular that its source material, at least outside of Japan. Even so, oftentimes the anime will either deviate from the manga (Kenshin, Soul Eater, the original Full Metal Alchemist) or just never be adapted at all. Some notable examples off the top of my head:

-The last arc of Rurouni Kenshin; series was cancelled due to the poor ratings that the filler after the Kyoto arc got

-The last arc of Bleach, for whatever reason

-Until recently, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, although this still applies for part 4 and above

What are some other ones?
Came to complain about this...oh fuck I am gonna complain either way!!

I wish they would do the same to Rurouni Kenshin what they did to Full metal Alchemist and remake the entire series again, but they can use the original soundtrack as that was incredible.

Samurai Deeper Kyo - anime was a great disappointing turd which is a pity as I LOVE LOVE the manga so much I own all 38 volumes. I could hardly recognize the anime for what it was and can't even remember now - I've erased it from my mind.

I have a love/hate relationship with the anime. Obviously, the plot is remarkably retarded and has very little to do with the manga (for god knows what reason). On the other hand, it has really great voice acting, and the soundtrack absolutely rocks. I also have a little bit of nostalgia for it because it was the first anime DVD I owned.

Another I would like to Nominate is Flame of Recca, for some reason I hated this anime but I really love the manga.

Also Kingdom anime and its godawful cg and censoring is a travesty they need to redo it.

Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer

damn shame this hasn't gotten an adaption yet

also, motherfuckin BLAME!

I'd love to see a good proper adaption that's more than just whatever that short OVA series was.

and none of that CG shit like in Sidonia's adaption :(

I am still salty that Gainax cancel Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer adaptation, I know it's because of the recording company, but damn it

Conversely, you have something like YYH, which follows the manga pretty durn closely, and oddly enough, cuts out some of the fat as well!

Gunn/Berserk/Bastard.

I don't understand why they don't have a proper anime adaptation. Maybe because they are way too violent and mature, I don't know.

Yeah, I also want this to happen. IIRC, the first arc had a different flow to it and changed/cut out a lot of stuff from the manga, as well. I remember reading the manga a long time ago and thinking it was far superior.

Well, technically there are tons of Astroboy animes, but I really wanna see some sort of good anime movie / live action adaptation of

I know it's still on-going, but I'm hoping Shokugeki no Soma gets animated one of these day, perhaps by Shaft since they love being artsy & stuff. I imagine they would draw/animate the hell out of the food....and the reactions of people eating it.

Just as already mentioned any of the works of naoki urasawa , I really loved what they did with monster anime ..it was perfect.

Also wtf Bleach anime ended?? I stopped reading at the start of the current arc (bored basically) ,any reason why?

Berserk's Golden Age arc is great - but that what follows it is incredible. I read somewhere that the team who made the first three GA movies planned to create more Berserk movies, but due bad numbers they are reconsidering this. While I know that the movies and the anime exist, to me it still feels like that Berserk has never been really adopted to anime because the GA arc is a super long (but important and well executed) prologue to me.

And Vagabond deserves to reach a broader audience as well.

Saint Seiya fans waited like 20 years to finally see the the final and what is without a doubt the best arc in the series, the result was bittersweet, the arc itself was split in two and released in OVA format, the first part was beautifully animated and very well done, then we had to wait like 3 more years for the second and final part of the arc, but something went terribly wrong, the budget for this part was ultra low and the results were atrocious, terrible animation that made it look like a cheap flash animation, etc, fans raged and wondered how the quality sunk so much.

But hey, after like 20 years we got closure.

Hareluya II BOY was a very popular shonen highschool turf battle manga in the 90s featuring very truly innovative fight scenes. It was by the man behind Bremen, and, IMO, league better than Bremen.

It got very shitty anime adaptation that was quickly forgotten.

Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou

One of my favorite manga of all time. Though, honestly, I kinda have a hard time picturing it as an anime. The flow and scenery porn of the series would probably be too slow and boring for mainstream viewers maybe. I really liked the OVAs they did but those... just weren't enough damn it! This series needs more love; also a western release!

I love this book!
The things that happen and the pace at which they happen are essential to the theme so yeah, will never be satisfyingly adapted unless they turn it into a bunch of unconnected shorts. The passage of time is extremely important to the book.
Man I gotta go back and read this again. Been too long.

Zatch Bell. The anime had to make up an ending for the Faudo arc, and they didn't even get to animate any of the Top Ten Mamodo arc.

Berserk, Blame, and Gantz all suffer from the same problem of needing to be super high budget to get what they deserve. Blame would need a high budget just to get the environments to look right.

I'm honestly surprised no one mentioned trigun. The manga and anime are almost completey different.

Blade of Immortal probably suffers the same problem too. Some wonder if it can be animated at all and retain the same visual style. I think it could but it would require a Production IG feature-level budget for every episode.

VINLAND
SAGA

Goddamnit.

I keep wondering if it's too soon to expect that. How many chapters does a manga usually get before an anime adaptation is feasible? Vinland is just over 100.

There have been so many manga over the years that I wanted an anime series for, that it'd take me forever to list them all. I'll just list the one that I think most deserves one.

Dragon Quest Retsuden: The Emblem of Roto

Easily the best story in the entire Dragon Quest franchise, game or otherwise, and one of the best fantasy manga, it only got one 45 minute "movie." Real shame as it's just an amazing series from start to finish and really expands the lore of DQ3's world and explores it like how you'd want. This series and it's sequel were a huge inspiration to the creators of Dragon Quest XI, apparently.

Were those crap berserk films even necessary?

Akira, while I like the film they had to omit a ton of things

Claymore, those last episodes were a mess.

Nah, Berserk doesn't need budget. The original TV series had no budget and is still a classic. Eva TV has no budget and is a classic.

You can still make good shows with lots of stills and panning if you've got a good director.

Also nobody is probably mentioning Trigun because the manga, while good for a while, ended up being pretty awful in the end imo. Doesn't need adaptation.

CROSSBONE GUNDAM!!!

Crossbone would be a waste of talent that could be used for an original Gundam TV series. The manga is good enough. Same with stuff like the Astray series.

Actually, I'd be ok with Crossbone as an OAV like they're doing Origin.

Original like 00, Seed and Age were, and how Reco is going to be?

Nice joke.

I'd rather have the talent adapting a proven story rather than leaving it up to Tomino and his shitty friends.

Beelzebub cut short and censored a great deal.

Beelzebub had a worse problem than that. They decided to stick 10 minutes of filler into every episode, ruining the comedic timing. Can't even skip stuff like with Naruto, because it's woven in everywhere.

I don't really feel as bad about it anymore though, after the manga ending.

This one.

Also, Naoki Urasawa's Pluto is one I'd add to the list but I think they're working on one now?

What? Really?? Nice, i friggin loved Pluto (okey, i've loved everything that Urasawa has done so far) It would be nice to see the anime :)

Hitoshi pace and style is great. I love how mysterious his stories are and how you never get to know exactly what's going on in it. I didn't know there were Ovas of Yokohama Kaidashi! I will search for them!

I'd take any of those over just seeing Crossbone, which I've already read, animated. It adds nothing to the Gundam universe, whereas new series adds potential good mechs, characters, episodes, storylines, battles.

Rorouni Kenshin never got to final arc as the animé died in filler episode.

Flame of Recca never got to finish it's story either and just ended far to early.

Agreed, Rurouni Kenshin deserve another chance but this time without the filler and with any arc being faithful to the manga.

Yeah, even Watsuki wasn't fond of some the changes they made in the first season.

The Kyoto saga was amazing though, and is worth watching on it own.

They are on YouTube subbed. Well not officially but you can find them there easily. The music is amazing.

Can someone explain to me why a show as popular as Naruto (which is far more popular than it has any right to be) looks like shit?

Because long running shows would be prohibitively expensive to make (anime is less profitable than you might believe) if they spent as much per episode as studios do for normal length series (13-26 episodes).

Considering most normal series are already filled to the brim with corner cutting, it's should be no surprise that a 200 episode behemoth like Naruto or One Piece would experience the worst kind of cheapness in the industry. Most of the animation work is farmed out to animation sweatshops in Korea.

THAT SAID.

That particular fight is very controversial in the scene, because it's an example of when the animation is really well done (seriously, look at all the fucking keyframes and distortion), but the style completely clashes with the rest of the show.

Animation diehards hold it up as an example of when Naruto is actually worth watching.

Naruto fans see it as a betrayal of the show's aesthetic, animation or no. They'd rather have shoddy animation that blends in with the rest of the show than good animation that sticks out like a sore thumb.

Honestly, it's all a mess and so you should avoid watching shit like Naruto. There's many many better things to watch out there, if you know where to look.

well considering the series is still ongoing with next dimension and we don't if that will get animated i personally just want a proper finale to the series...shit it might just take another 20 years just to end the manga/anime * PS i'm not mexican idk why people associate being a saint seiya fan with being mexican.. i'm dominican tho XD lol
