NDS' HW sales numbers will be decreased again next week

Nintendo will stop the NDS shippment this week and next week
it seems one of the reasons is the Chinese New Year

I respect Chinese New Year and all (IIRC Japan celebrated their New Years on the same day 100-some years ago) but I kinda find that funny. :lol

Source?

Anyway, that's pretty sad that we have to go on another Easter break, Chinese New Year seems like an ample time to cash-in after the shortages before the Lite launches.

No one expected the DS to do this at all. And i sincerely believe the DSlite will help the DS to the same sorts of levels around the world.
I think we have a PS2 beater on our hands, and ANYONE betting against the Revolution at this moment will be silly, especially if Nintendo can get Wario Ware, Brain Training etc out around launch, an keep a steady flow of games coming.
Console Nintendogs FTW

Not to worry, if the PSP beats the DS over the next 2 weeks, we'll know it's due to the Chinese New Year.

I just don't want the DS to end up like the N64/GC in the fact that the only company that really makes a killing in software sales is Nintendo.

I mean, lets be real, that honestly does affect publishers who don't want to put many games on the system because they know they can't compete directly with Nintendo first party games.

Not sure about that, really. I mean think about it. Going by that logic, wouldn't anyone be scared of putting their games on PS2 because it has GTA, FF, Madden and all those other million sellers?

Also, I'm not surprised at those DS sales, assuming Nintendo did finally restock. We did get a new brain Training, afterall.

what? AC only sold 250k in the other parts of the world? Weak! Needs better sales!

Also, shocking how Nintendogs is gonna reach 5 million some time soon. Fuck. It's going on to beat out the best selling GC games in no time. I think we could possibly see 7 million at the end of the DSs life.

254,000 in the US

Oh and Nintendogs, Mario Kart and ACWW aren't Japan updated

Nintendogs in japan is 1,086,000 Mario Kart at 1,052,000 and ACWW I forget

No, not really, because the demographics of both system owners are different.

The PS2 userbase is much more broad, full of a lot more hardcore and casuals that pretty much cover all genres and play anything. It's a massive massive market.

Nintendo owners are a lot more niche in that they really mainly enjoy Nintendo-made games. At least, the majority. And most GC owners have this as their "second system" and buy most third party games on other systems and only use their GC for Nintendo-branded games, hence the massive spike in Nintendo games and not any other, so my point is still valid.

Also, the games you mentionned arent first party games, like I was talking about, are they :)

So you are basically saying that there are about six million people in Japan that mainly enjoy Nintendo-made games (and at the end of this gen, this number will rise to ... let's be REALLY conservative ... 15 million), although there is already one third party game (Tamagotchi) that is really near to a million or has already cracked it (and there are several comparable games that have sold better on DS than on PSP)?
I have to say, I somehow doubt that :lol

Hi, we were talking about N64/GC as a viable platform for third parties based on past history.

And how I initially said I didn't want the strong sales of non-games to be another barrier of entry for third parties to release their franchines and original IPs on the DS because of the extremely strong first party Nintendo competion, which is what mainly sells.

Reading is funda-men-tal.

animal crossing went up (slightly)! it really is proving to be a major title, well deserved imo.

great performance for english learning, i hope nintendo makes versions for other languages.

i think this is true of the gc, but not of the ds audience.

imo the new audience nintendo is attracting knows little of developers and publishers, they buy a ds game because it appeals to them. much of the success of ds has been from new ips, nintendogs, brain traing etc, things that had nothing to do with nintendo. also prof kawashima is a big part of the driving force for the monster brain training sales, and iirc gentle brain excercises contains pre-school level tests and came at the right time, price also has a factor.

the ds audience responds well to a third party game, if it appeals to them.

it seems one of the reasons is the Chinese New Year

Aren't they still shipping original GBAs? DSfat production isn't going to grind to a halt now that Lite's on the way.

That seems like an awful lot of software for PSP. Usually they only sell slightly more software than hardware.

I think he means they won't be shipping any from China (where they're manufactured) during the 15 days of the Chinese New Year festivals. Whether that's true or not, I have no idea.
