Media Create Sales: Week 26, 2015 (Jun 22 - Jun 28)

It's pretty impressive how Splatoon established a new baseline for the Wii U over the last few weeks. Especially when everyone was sure that the Wii U would drop off an even deeper cliff this year since it had no Mario Kart and no price cut compared to last year.
Yet here we are - trucking along in first gear, between 10 and 20k reach of last years ytd.

And in two weeks they'll get Yoshi and I think the Captain Toad Amiibo re-release is also not too far off? Maybe it'll even catch up to last years YTD. If Nintendo had steady releases with about two games a month, who knows how the Wii U would sell...

At this pace it'll also take a while for the PS4 to catch up. Japan has to get back into shape and a) release some more Japanese console games and b) buy them.

I'm going to go crazy and say 1 million (with digital)
any lower predictions seem boring at this point

On current Wii U sales that would require a 40% attachment rate. I think that might be a little optimistic :p

I'm gonna go with...772,056 LTD sales. Why not.

Those Splatoon legs, those opening numbers for Fire Emblem if and P4DAN...

For Persona, I don't think the staggering we see in spin-off opening weeks is that surprising when we analyze the individual products.

Mainline Persona is a hybrid life simulator and dungeon crawling RPG.

PersonaQ is a dungeon crawling RPG with lots of dialog. Of the spin-offs, this is the closest to an actual Persona game.

After that we have the fighting game spin-offs and the dancing game spin-off. We see the rhythm game opening in between the first entry and second entries for the fighting game, and below the reigning champion of the genre on the platform (Miku).

I don't see why not. 350K is nothing to sneeze at.
He probably means that Awakening and definitely Fates are taking the franchise in a new direction (waifu face rubbing and other questionable additons). With sales like this, they're going to stick to the direction they've been going since it's doing wonders for them. Rather have that than the series dead though.

Looks like that went over my head. Though I prefer the old direction, I'm completely satisfied with the new direction of the series. Like you said, as long as the series is alive.

Would this be a fair comparison?

JRPG Spin-off Rhythm games FW:

[3DS] DQ Theatrhythm 76k
[3DS] FF Theatrhythmn 70k
[Vita] P4 DAN 94k

Can Fire Emblem If outsell Mystery of the Emblem?!

It had the potential i believe here.^_^

Lol, indeed the crow have been served here.T_T

Would this be a fair comparison?

Spin off Rhythm games

DQ Theatrhythm 76k
FF Theatrhythmn 70k
P4 DAN 94k

The fact that Persona did better than DQ on the Vita no less, is quite impressive.

The budget is highly difference though. Theatrhythm budget must be tons smaller compared to P4 DAN here.

I would said comparison with Miku will be much better here as the gameplay looks much closer too.

It's not that simple when the concept is a very important thing for fans of the series. The novelty of the original P3 and P4 casts crossing over won't be there anymore. They also can't just pull the same thing off again due to story reasons. All of this spin-off stuff resets itself once Persona 5 enters the fray.

Finally, P1 and P2 collab we had been waiting for.^_^

Like someone said I don't think that's really good comparison (I did it for fun anyways) but do you have any source to back that up?
(Because my personal opinion is other way around).

Edit: Not questioning your estimate, just asking (my guess regarding this is just a speculation from my ass too)

PS4 tracking ~50% better than last year at weekly basis make me happy.

It could do ~1.5m this year compared with 1m last year.

Good... good.

It's not quite the same though. The Pokemon Dual Pack includes two games. Two different games. Hence it is a bundle. Like the EDF2 PSP/Vita dual-packs which are two copies of the game bundled in at a discount. The FE If LE is a single cart. The cart includes the complete game, which is not 2x of the normal game, but rather either version of the normal game + the DLC for the other half.

Even it's a sigle cart, the price is the double as if it was two games. I know it includes also a third DLC, but the price is what is it.

Single Game: 4.700¥ (without tax)
Special Edition: 9.250¥ (without tax)

I'm really curious on FE:if digital breakdown sales. Like, how many people go Hoshido->Nohr, or vice-versa, go through 3rd path, or just played one path. Maybe Nintendo will be good enough to provide the data in the Iwata Asks of the next Fire Emblem, lol.

Does somebody have p4dan and Miku comparisons?

FW
Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA F
159,592

Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA F 2nd
Vita 98,628/PS3 59,965

P4DAN
94K

I dont think it's a good comparison though, as Miku is a rhythm franchise, correct (i dont know much about it)? Not a spin-off from another genre.

You should also check LTDs since Persona will likely be more front loaded.

I would if i knew where to find that info ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I know it's optimistic, it's no fun otherwise. It won't just sell to existing WiiU owners though, it's already proven to be a system seller, and hopefully it can stay relevant long enough to benefit from future hardware bumps.

It's proven to be a very leggy title and there's really no telling how far it can go. 500-600k would be pretty low for a game that's selling almost 40k in it's 5th week in the middle of summer. It'd mean we'll start seeing a more rapid decline pretty soon.

More like 1.2-1.3 Million I'd suspect. 1.4 if Persona and MGS V really push it. I think hitting 1.5 will be a tall order.

How about a first week comparison of P4 DAN with Project Mirai since they are both spin offs

[3DS] Hatsune Miku and Future Stars: Project Mirai - 86.676
[3DS] Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai 2 - 88.708
[3DS] Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai Deluxe - 41.442

[PSV] Persona 4: Dancing All Night - 94.036

I'm not sure what Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem opened at, but it's quite possibly the best opening the series by a good margin.

It definitely is but I'm skeptical of the large difference between sales for Awakening and Fates. Part of me wants to attribute this to marketing but other parts of me wants to say it's because of the pandering towards the otaku/common denominator circumstances. Idk...

300-350k first week is pretty high for an Otaku game no?

The system is not doing exactly well given the lack of appealing releases in the last few months but according to some people the PS4 should aready be in the sub 10k range like last year, which ended up not being true after all, so it's not that bad either.

I wonder how many people are double dipping for Fire Emblem instead of getting the dlc and if that's inflating the copies sold.

Awakening was also released pretty early in the 3ds's life cycle, but I do think this is definitely siphoning off from Awakening's success.

Most of the people wanting that would've just got the double pack, which is counted as one game in Media Create.

PS4 is only tracking below last year YTD because the launch (309k)... all others weeks are ~50% over what it did last year.

A price cut late this year plus big games like MGSV and others will make PS4 have a great year in Japan (> 1.5m).

That is what I thing.

That would be incredible weird since, unlike Pokemon, you can get all the content with 1 copy + DLC or buy the Double Pack directly.

But maybe they want 2 copies for the covers =P

Aside from the anomaly that was REmake HD, how do remasters tend to do in Japan? The drop off rate for DMC4SE is concerning.

(Because my personal opinion is other way around).

Well,i remember first the game is pitched to Dingo(Creator of Miku rhythm game) and after tons of problem, the game end up being develop by Atlus own team which i believe will increase the cost here.

The easiest comparison will also probably be, the graphics and engine? Thearhythm is develop by a small company(Indies Zero?) here and it still uses the same engine as two older Thearhythm engine which i believe should be much cheaper to develop here.

They couldn't, the double pack is getting scalped for twice the amount now, there is severe supply issues with it.

Collector's collect :), there's no practical reason for doing so (well there is, in streetpass their second copy of the game if they have another 3ds).

I'm really hopeful that a price cut will indeed help the PS4 in Japan. Sony should do it this year IMO.

Next Fire Emblem game will be a lewd dating sim and it'll be the best selling game in the series :(

DAY 1 WAIFU

Can anyone comment on how Splatoon is advertised in Japan? They must be doing something right.

Considering famous manga artists are doing their own spin on Splatoon without anyone paying them - it must be pretty popular even without a huge marketing budget.
I'm guessing the fact that there is constant updates is keeping it in people's minds. Should be interesting if it gets a bump in August when the big update rolls around.

Nice FE opening! As long as the game play remains consistently good I will overlook the "anime x waifu" invasion if it saves the series from doom.

P4:DAN also had a nice opening. I bet it will be fairly frontloaded, however, and fall off quickly. I am interested to see what kind of reception it will have overseas. P4 is popular and Vita users tend to be heavy software buyers but then again this is a rhythm spin-off.

Splatoon keeps on truckin. Nintendo may have another hit on its hands.

@hiska-kun thanks for the monthly tables.

It shows PS4 except for launch (Feb) grew a lot in Japan... if they can maintain the moment and increase sales with games like MGSV bundle then they will be fine this year.
