I'm still surprised they didn't demo Skyrim, FIFA or NBA2k at the Treehouse Live streams. I'm not sure how much more there is to say about those games but there are quite a few third party games announced like those you mentioned that we do need details for.

My guess is another Nindie Showcase. Scheduled Indie releases for August and September are non-existent right now and we know there are several announced as "summer", as well as some titles that have been announced since the last one that have yet to be covered by Nintendo (Owlboy).

They did a Neko Mario Time Nyandies Special last month during Bitsummit, and it included owlboy.

Oof. Wonder what the reason is on this one.

Doesn't seem to be getting quite as heavily destroyed as Extreme Vs. Force, but still.
Looks like there is a lack of content, both modes and robots, allied to the game being more expensive than previous entries and with a lot of payed dlc.

Lol. Comparison vid of Nights of Azure 1 & 2, pointing out that the Vita version doesn't look ridiculous this time (I think).

Gust actually putting a little more effort into a Vita port this time, just for it to stay Japan-only (although whether it actually turns out better remains to be seen - I guess the nearly 1 year delay probably gave them time to polish it up).

So with Switch getting stocked for decent amounts of time on various Amazon sites, could the shipments be increasing a bit?

Sales seem to be ramping up for DQXI anyway, I wouldn't be surprised to see a number like that for PS4 this week.
That is an interesting idea that PS4 hardware sales are brought forward in anticipation of DQXI release. If it happens then PS4 might just be able to reach 5m 1 week before PS3. Next week numbers will be quite telling for this.

Last time there was an empty spot for a Nintendo Direct (so, for Splatoon 2), it didn't happen until 3 weeks later, so it won't necessarily happen next week or the week after.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
It's too soon for a fall direct that will clear holiday releases and that won't happen before quarter results either way.

yeah I don't think we will see a major one until end of August/beginning of September.

The major direct of 2016 was at 1 September. I don't expect the 2017 one to have so many announcements, at least not for this year, but it will still be a big one.

Interesting recruitment notice. It has elements not found in the other positions they are also recruiting for. Namely, for the action planner in particular, they are looking for people who are very knowledgeable in: online games, medieval/fantasy, overseas trends, pop culture, and entertainment. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Wouldn't be surprised if after IntSys' success with a different approach than core Nintendo Monolith Soft gets to do a mobile game for Nintendo as well and they are hiring specifically for that.

Honestly that would make me wonder why Platinum didn't just reveal their stuff at E3.
Platinum is not a publisher.

You know what I mean. I would've expected Nintendo to showcase Platinum's games in their Spotlight rather than wait a month and reveal them in a Direct.

Given the original only opened at 34K (Famitsu #s vs. this being Dengeki), but this isn't that bad for essentially a late port with arguably worse art. I doubt it'll have much legs though.
01./00. [3DS] Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology (Atlus) {2017.06.29} - 24,982 / NEW

I guess I thought this would do slightly better given how well the original version did on Wii U of all things (thought it might do closer to 10K), but for a Lego game in Japan, this is still on the better side for a launch. Guess it's not too surprising that there's a slightly bigger Lego audience on Switch so far. This was the case even on Wii U. If I'm not mistaken, this is the 2nd title to have a simultaneous release with Switch & PS4 in Japan (the first being Puyo Puyo Tetris)?
08./00. [NSW] LEGO City Undercover (Warner Entertainment Japan) {2017.06.29} - 5,611 / NEW
17./00. [PS4] LEGO City Undercover (Warner Entertainment Japan) {2017.06.29} - 2,750 / NEW

Switch gets its first title to sell 600K with MK8Deluxe!
03./04. [NSW] Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Nintendo) {2017.04.28} - 13,256 / 601,902

Zelda crosses 500K for Switch on Dengeki.
07./07. [NSW] The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Nintendo) {2017.03.03} - 6,267 / 502,403

ARMS crosses 150K.
02./01. [NSW] ARMS (Nintendo) {2017.06.16} - 19,972 / 156,867

Still thinking about DQXI sales...

Has FFXV broken 1.5 million in Japan yet or is it still between 1 and 1.5 million?

I imagine, in a vacuum, DQ XI would be able to beat FFXV on PS4, i.e. sell perhaps 1.5-2 million.

It can't get much higher than that with current PS4 install base though, I'd imagine.

Similarly, in a vacuum, DQXI 3DS could probably sell the series typical numbers between 2.5-4 million.

The thing is, neither version is in a vacuum: both versions exist and are launching at the same time. Moreover, I think SE's work to make them both independently attractive has born fruit. The 3DS version is its own beast, with unique features like the 2D mode and portability, which make seeing it as simply a less pretty option for the mass market wrong-headed, imo. Personally, I'm legitimately torn between the versions and hoping that the Switch version miraculously combines them in time for the western release :p. Otherwise, I might really be buying 2-3 copies of the game.

The point here is: I don't think we're in a situation where "if user has PS4 and 3DS, they buy PS4 version." PS4 is running ahead in the pre-order numbers we're seeing and I imagine that the pre-order crowd is disproportionately more enthusiast customers who also, I'd imagine, disproportionately have both consoles, but it is not running far ahead in the numbers we've seen.

So I could see 3DS version cutting into PS4 sales and PS4 version cutting into 3DS sales. I don't think it'll necessarily just cut one way.

There is also, however, the fact to consider that this is the first time a mainline Dragon Quest is launching simultaneously on the leading platform in Japan and a competitor. Usually it only hits the leading platform. Does this mean DQ XI has a better chance of landing near 4 million or even surpassing it?

So when I consider the overlap I'm pressed to thinking DQXI is probably going to sell about 1-1.5 million on PS4 and about 2.5-3 million on 3DS, and possibly just shy of those minimum estimates.

When I think about the multiplatform release I wonder if we might actually see the values at the upper-end of the estimates for both versions.

But yeah, I think it ends up 3DS over PS4 unless 3DS version severely undersells or PS4 version creates an insane PS4 boom. I don't think either of these will happen.

Then there is also the Switch version to consider...

I don't think the latter will happen either.
It seems many people expect Nintendo to have picked up the Platinum work force that worked on Scalebound until the turn of the year. If that indeed happened it will still be quite some time until a release, and announcements relatively shortly before that.

Still barely over 1 Mil actually, and it was vastly overshipped.

No it hasn't passed 1.5M. It hasn't even hit 1M retail copies on any tracker as far I can tell, even if it's fairly close (987K Famitsu, 969K Dengeki) after bargain bin sales. Digital pushes it slightly over 1M. I think DQ11 on PS4 has the chance of doing about the same or slightly better than FFXV, but without the bargain bin pricing. We'll see though.

FFXV almost sold 1 million, has to crawl towards that mark as well. It's never reaching 1.5 million without a rerelease on a new console.

I doubt many DQXI purchasers will want to wait an indefinite time before the Switch version releases, so Switch won't really pull in a lot of unique audience, but there is quite some potential for predominantly 3ds owners who upgraded to Switch to get the downgraded PS4 version portably, so that's where I think the Switch fits in.

I think you're mostly right about Switch, i.e. that it'll mostly pull in double-dippers with a late (perhaps GotY enhanced) portable port of the PS4 version.

I guess in the back of my mind there is also the consideration of how close it comes out. I think a portable UE4 version could sever the PS4 version's tail a bit, so to speak. At the same time, though, I imagine the vast majority of sales will be done within a couple months of launch on PS4, so a 6 month plus out Switch version is probably irrelevant to that and that's what I imagine we'll get.

...

With what all you said about FFXV...I was probably too exuberant in my first "in a vacuum" prediction :p.

Still, I think it'll do like .9-1.5 million in the end, on PS4 and do ~2 to 3 million on 3DS.

Which are good numbers.

I'm certainly glad they expanded to 3DS. Even in the weird case where PS4 outsells 3DS (say 1.5 to 1.4 or 2 to 1.5), it'll be a situation like Duckroll was talking about above with PS4/Vita where 3DS was instrumental to hitting respectable numbers for the franchise.

First time since pre-orders opened, that Splatoon 2 is above one version of Dragon Quest XI on Rakuten. It was #2 on the daily ranking, and #1 was DQXI for PS4.

Maybe general third party direct?

Taiko, Tales, Platinum, WWE, etc there are many games that haven't been covered yet

Platinum Games self publishing games now? Unless SEGA is publishing Bayo 1+2, it's probably Nintendo doing the honors again. Hence not a third party direct.

Maybe there's hope for Splatoon 2 week after all.

Bic Camera Yurakucho had 120 Switch consoles for the lottery. This is the highest number since we started tracking this store in May.

What we can assume is that Bic Camera stores got a (considerable) bigger shipment this week. But if overall sales really go up this week will depend on if other retailers had also bigger shipments.

We already witnessed how some retailers were reporting bigger shipments after Arms launch, but at the same time Bic Camera reported lower units. And overall was down.

So a single chain isn't enough to reach a conclusion. On Monday we'll see how Comg, Tsutaya and Rakuten performed.

Btw, GamesMaya also reported steady sales for Mario Kart 8 DX since she got new shipments for Switch.

Shipments for Bic Camera Yurakucho kept getting lower week after week comparing to other retailers, it's the first time after a long time they go up. We'll see if anecdotal reports for bigger shipments come true this time, the week after that is splatfest and next Splatoon release. Sometime Nintendo will provide the increased units that were announced and this is the first full week of July.
