Media Create Sales: Week 28, 2016 (Jul 11 - Jul 17)

I wonder how they would price a mainline pokemon game on mobile. You think they would have the balls to actually sell it or would they turn it into a F2P game?

How much are we actually expecting from Persona 5 anyway? (Japan and worldwide I suppose)

I think Persona 5 is going to be a 90+ metacritic game and will do very well in the west. I think its going to be the breakout game for the series, i expect at least 500k in japan, and another 1-1.5 million in the west.

Meanwhile, in Japan...

A Pikachu appeared in Shinjuku gyoen Park.

Didn't someone post their friend's testimony in one of these threads about how Pokémon Go would never take off in Japan?

I'm starting to believe in the sleeper agent theory.

So basically exactly what happened to Fire Emblem? Would be fun to see happen.

Here's the game line-up for Level 5 Vision as leaked by European trademarks:
- Lady Layton
- Inazuma Eleven Ares
- Megaton Musashi
- Otme Hero

Presumably #3 or #4 is presumably the new transmedia IP.

They also seem to be localizing the dictionary/encyclopedia app and the rhythm game:
- Yo-Kai Daijiten
- Yo-Kai Geraporhythm

Level-5 has filed various trademarks such as "Lady Layton" and "Inazuma Eleven Ares" in Europe.

Tomorrow potentially comes the Media Create Sales for YW3. I'm crossing my fingers they reach around 800,000 to 1,000,000 total for the week.

The TV ratings for last week's YW JP special reached 5.6 million viewers, I'm sure YW3 has gotten major advertising there for it sell.

I don't know when these come, do they come every Tuesday U.S. time?

I'm very nervous.

INteresting. Megaton Musashi seems to be another multimedia product seems to target young boys demographic while Otme(maybe otome?) hero seems to be more placed to attract female demographic lol. Based on name only though.

It is intersting that L-5 immediately prepared 2 new IP there especially after YW3 seems to be underperforming..

With Musashi, Otome Hero and Snack World, i would love to see how well all this new IP will do for Level-5 here.

Photo Kano Kiss got a price drop to 999 yen on PSN to promote Reco Love. After two weeks, it has sold over 9000 (what does the scoute-) copies: http://blog.hokanko-alt.com/archives/49166980.html

Keep this in mind for Famitsu's July digital charts. Though, this game is published by Famitsu's owners so I guess they're just a phone call away from 100% accurate numbers lol.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
If NX is the portable Eurogamer describes i would expect japanese PS4 games to be ported to that system if possible. Also makes me rethink the whole "console exclusive" part of some PS4 games i would have expected to hit a 3DS successor - like Ninokuni 2.

If its a portable like suggested...

Tomorrow with the Level 5 Vision, if Lady Layton and Inazuma Eleven Ares are annouced for NX, we can assume it's a portable system (or related) since these series always have been portable.

DKHF

From the new leak the NX has a lot potential in Japan. I will be interested to see what 3rd party JP games (outside of the ones we know like Sonic of course) are in development for it presumably at the announcement in September.

Yeah if NX is a portable with the Tegra X1(or even possibly Tegra X2) it should be in the perfect ballpark for 90% of Japanese games.

I wrote much lengthier thoughts here, but I would basically consider this the PSP3 as made by Nintendo (and given their undivided attention), and for Japan in particular, I feel that's about as good as a proposition as they could make.

If dedicated devices can still succeed in Japan, this would be the device made to chase that market.

NX could be indeed be home to handheld conversions of PS4 games. Persona 5 Crimson being a key one for example.

Monster Hunter 5 is going to rule on this thing. o_O

You're surprisingly positive. :p

Well, as I said, this is what I've felt they should do for years, even if I think the future of handhelds as a viable market in general is questionable.

Double down all their dedicated device resources on what they do best (by making a very modern handheld and supporting it with all their staff), go into mobile games to court the casual and midcore audience and ensure their games have a future, go all in on licensing and merchandizing to make sure their IPs are hitting as many markets as possible and retain relevance, and attempt to modernize their game line-up to match the modern market.

Barring any weird unveils in September, this is definitely making the best of a bad situation without having to immediately gut half the company.

Do I see a lot of potential hurdles ten years from now? Yes, but I think taking it one step at a time and then assessing the situation makes the most sense, and that this is the correct first step.

Edit:

I think another way to look at this is that Microsoft/Sony want Western core gamers, so they've made consolized PCs, while Nintendo is targeting Japan, casual gamers, and younger audiences, so they've made a consolized smartphone. We've pretty much reached the logical conclusion of the hardware lines based on their demographics.

Oh no, I fully agree and have the same response, and inferred as much of the same reasoning from your main post. I was more just making a joke since these threads have largely been downers, you arrived with so much optimism! :p
