Some did predict it because of the good job From Software did with Dark Souls, but far from most predicted it. I looked through the previous MC thread now and i saw 15 predictions for the prediction league and 2-3 predicted that AC5 would sell more than RE:R. (You personally predicted a 100k bigger opening for RE:R over AC5 :) http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=34449575&postcount=880).

The week is however not over yet, so RE:R can still end up selling more indeed. But i'm still surprised to see RE:R and AC5 having both 100k for the two first days. The previous AC game (AC: For Answers) opened with 50k (PS3 version).

But normally they're pretty spot on. Or rather, I've seen with the estimates that they're normally even lower than what the total for the debut week suggests, knowing how normally certain kinds of titles perform after the first day.

Sorry to be a nitpicker, but I'd say 12 or 13 people -- out of 15 -- predicting that AC5 would outsell RE:E fits the description that "most" predicted it.

Not that it matters. Just wanted to point it out :)

I said 2-3 , not 12 or 13 :) (i lost count, so i didnt remember if it was 2 or 3, but it was max 3 people that i saw at least). Some had predictions where RE:R wasnt that much higher than AC5 though, but it was still higher. But i do agree that it looked most likely that RE:R would sell more, that is why i was surprised by the 2-first day number both being ~100k. But the week isnt over yet, so RE:R might sells more than AC5 the first week.

I think one of us is confused (and if it's me, sorry about that!). You said in your first comment/post that of the 15 predictions you saw in a recent MC thread, "2-3 predicted that RE:R would sell more than AC5." Given that, the rest must -- 12 or 13 -- must have predicted that AC5 would sell more than RE:R. (Of course, all/some of them predicted they would equal amounts, too.)

Ah, like that. I read my post again and you're right, my mistake, sorry. I ment to say AC5 over RE:R, not the other way around. First the two big typos of mentioning RE5 instead and now this, haha, doh! I'll fix it now, thanks for pointing it out :)

RE4 did 30k on first day for 45k on first week.
Umbrella Chronicles did 70k on first day, then 106k on first week (but it was supply costrained at time IIRC )
RE5 did 278k between PS3 and 360 (222k on the former, 56k on the latter), and it translated in 320k on PS3 and 80k on 360.

Since you aren't actually dumb, why did you decide to quote my predictions and pretend that it somehow disproved that the first day sales are pretty much what I expected? Are you bored maybe? You should hit some more Japanese blogs you don't understand if you're bored. I hear Google Translate works great. :p

Genuinely impress by Armored Core. I was one of the only ones who downplayed its potential performance.

Yesterday I reported what the last games did between first day and first week.
I'll repost it

RE4 did 30k on first day for 45k on first week.
Umbrella Chronicles did 70k on first day, then 106k on first week (but it was supply costrained at time IIRC )
RE5 did 278k between PS3 and 360 (222k on the former, 56k on the latter), and it translated in 320k on PS3 and 80k on 360.

We're around a growth of 50% between first day and first week. Depending on how it really did on its first day ( in fact, I've seen that get6-2 have estimates that, knowing how the series and/ or genre the game belong to have a certain sales pattern after the first day, are shy of 10-15k compared to how the game's first week actually suggests... ) we could have between 150-170k for first week. This not even counting the weekend growth could be better due to being on a great performing platform right now, but I don't see it so likely.

Demon/ Dark Souls effect? I think some publishers should take note to what exactly happened there.
releasing awesome games strengthens brandname of studio, which in turn has an positive effect on future releases
