PS4 is selling the exact same as a system that is 4 years old and has a 20 mil install base already. Should we really be praising it?

This is certainly some middling praise. The impression I'm getting from this and most everything else concerning PS4 performance in Japan is "meh". Some pick their battles and give kudos to hardware holds or software managing to chart, but other than that, Media Create threads are a depressing dose of realism...

Hope for a slightly more positive tune in 2016.

Edit: Member status. So sudden. I should have had a speech prepared.

It has already become abundantly clear things are different now in Japan. Should we really continue to set expectations based on what was instead of what is?

20k (if it can hold it) is good enough for a dead market. WIth sporadic bumps above that.
Not sure why people are being weird.

If Wii U started doing 20k a week I'd praise the heck outta it.

22k is very good, were you expecting PS2 sales numbers all of a sudden? It's actually very good in relation the US or other markets, it's also very good when compared to the PS3, it only looks bad when compared to the handheld or PS1/PS2 juggernauts, Consoles haven't been that strong in Japan for almost a decade.

Throw in them God Eater sales :p

Had to blink a few times. Still not convinced I saw a XB1 title in the Japanese top 20. Have quickly checked outside to make sure I'm not currently in some kind of terrifying dream world.

don't worry, it won't happen anymore (or at least until Scalebound release)

and I wonder why a XB1 game inside top 30 can terrify you...

80k in a month in Japan would be similar to 200k in the US.
Well, as I far I agree with you about the population statistics, I think you should mention that Japanese people is much more turned on videogames than their western counterparts. So maybe that multiplier doesn't fit pretty well.

There will be a Yokai Watch promotion on McDonalds starting on November 6.

Including Yokai figurines of Jinbanyan, USAPyon and what not there will be all sorts of other goodies only available at McDonals, such as an unique medal and a 2016 calendar.

No mention on how long will it last.

That only works in comparison to the PS2 era, but that hasn't been the case since last gen.

The PS4 had plently of 200k-250k months on NPD, it even had <200k months. It's very unrealistic to expect Japan to be the #1 per capita console market in the world in this day and age, right now it's more in line with other markets, which is still very good.

If the baseline remains at 22k, I'd say the PS4 has more to worry about in the US than Japan, it's been pulling mediocre numbers on NPD all year. While the PS4 had very good months in February, March, & April in Japan, it has yet to have a good month in the US this year.

I think it's not likely to happen. My bet about it, is around the end of the fiscal year, so by that time having 20 million sold only would require about 32k on a weekly basis. So I think this is more likely to occurr.

Well, I wasn't talking about strict numbers. What I meant is about being more interested in videogames, something that not always is related to sales I think. Maybe, your numbers are well, I don't know, but my point was a little bit different from raw numbers.

Wasn't a new Yokai Watch Busters supposed to release in December? Did something happen to that, or has a date just not been announced yet?

It's not related to your question, but I found an interesting data about Busters.
It has sold, according to MC numbers, exactly one million after its first week numbers (1.000.813, one million, anyway)

If Wii U started doing 20k a week I'd praise the heck outta it.
;_;

I would too, but the argument is that 20k might not actually be its baseline. The price drop is still very recent, there was a new release, and the holidays are coming. If it still consistently stays at 20k or above next year then yes, I agree that would be pretty good for a home console. I just don't think that that will happen. People also had unrealistic expectations of the Vita's baseline whenever it showed a sales increase lasting longer than two weeks. For a product's sales to drop like a rock right after a price drop or other impactful event, it'd have to be a really undesirable product - like the Xbox One.

I could see it staying above 20k for the rest of the year.
About next year, I don't own a PS4 so don't care enough to know the lineup lol. I assume uncharted and street fighter are within the first few months? It'll probably drop under 20k unless something happens.

Unrealistic is Vita's middle name.

Yeah I think that's likely. The holiday effect starts soon, I don't remember which week in November, but only a couple of weeks to go.

Holiday season in Japan starts from November 23rd (week 48).
PS4 will be ok with Call of Duty and Star Wars until it starts.

Heh, I was agreeing with you.

You said, "So they want the game to bomb heh."

The trailers are showing they definitely aren't trying with this game lol.

Well, even a bad game can sell decently if it's released during holiday season. That was my point.

I get your point, Japan is culturally more into video games than any other market. It still is actually, just no on consoles.

It's no longer "dead" like the 7k baseline last Summer indicated either, nor is it as vibrant as the mid 2000s, right now it's doing as well as PS3 (slightly better as of late actually), which is very good, it's foolish to expect PS2 numbers.

Is Wii U still ahead of PS4 LTD?

Yes, 2.6 vs 1.9
I was wrong last year, around this period, in seeing the PS4 being able to catch it within 1 year. Splatoon effect and PS4 spare lineup had a role in this. At this point, btw, with nothing significant coming out next year for the Wii U, the price cut being effective for PS4 and its strong lineup for next year, will probably help the support to happen within the next 9 months, depending on the PS4 actual release schedule

Wonder how steep the decline from the last Treyarch game it will be given the install base, and how large the PS4 bump is. Anyone have ideas?
