Media Create Sales: Week 51, 2013 (Dec 16 - Dec 22)

I'm sad that Pikmin 3 doesn't seem to have gained much from the Wii U's far better than expectations holiday bump, at least Taiko is showing some signs of life.

Vita is also ending up the year on a relatively high note, the price drop and steady stream of releases certainly helped a lot with that.

Oh and happy holidays to everybody!

Wii U

January
Code:

February
Code:
02/01	Wii Fit U (Balance Board and Fit Meter Set)
02/05	Monster Hunter Frontier G (Memorial Package)
02/06	Puyo Puyo Tetris
02/13	Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

Nintendo probably hopes that the momentum helps them to generate somewhat ok sales in January.

February has Donkey Kong (going to be interesting how this performs).

Mario Kart 8 should launch in March or April.
March would be far better of course.

Then we have a lot of other 2014 releases but no exact dates.

Drakengard sold almost more in a week than Nier Replicant did in its lifetime.

9UrFsyk.jpg

First week sales are ~20k less if compared to Drag on Dragoon 1 and 2.

I was just thinking about how strange it was that the Vita version was sold out in pretty much every store I went to... I guess they had realistic expectations.

For another two weeks.

Should sell around 50k next week, then 70k and finally back to irrelevancy.

...

Nice bump for wiiu, altough 3DS does slightly worse than previous year/ What was it again that caused that insane bump of 400K last year? Vita doin ok, nothing special, but at leasts it sell more than LYTD

I know that Puzzle & Dragon is pretty much the hottest property in Japan right now, but seeing Puzzle & Dragons Z being on its way to becoming one of the most successful 3rd games of the generation is pretty amazing regardless.

The two bolded should never be used in the same sentence.

I'm missing something, aren't I?

It sold pretty terrible for a FF title on console. In any case, the XIII saga is done and dusted, time to look forward to next week's sales for glorious numbers for FF X/X-2 HD :D

Then you're talking about LTD which yes, it sold terrible for a FF title on console. I was just commenting on the fact that it disappeared quickly from the charts while in actuality, it did pretty okay for itself.

I'm looking forward to how FFX/X-2 HD does! Not sure how well it's supposed to perform for a remaster.

Wait, the sell-through is not terrible here. Seems like Namco Bandai had a realistic expectation here.

Looks like 400k+ is guaranteed for this after all, in line with the two first games. The question is: what happened to the audience that bought M&L3.

Can't wait to see how much the Vita version of SRWZ3 will se- oh wait.

Real talk. SRW is niche enough as is, the sales of the Vita version are going to be ridiculously low... Maso Kishin III did bad enough as is last summer, you can be sure they won't bother with VIta anymore after the two Z3 games.

Go back to your hole of death and stop supporting Level 5's bad ideas.

Just beat the first Inazuma eleven go game (dark version). The game is waaay better than the ds games. Gonna buy the chrono stone and galaxy in January. Interested to buy youkai watch too. Level 5 games are so well done.

Also, Wii u will sell like hotcakes when it will be 250€/$ + when games like mk8 ssbb will be released.
Nintendo can't sell <250 because of the game pad.

Not like they're giving the Vita version much of chance anyway since it's digital only.

Second most important post in the thread after the OP.
The period after the holidays will be crucial to determine if the momentum will be carried over or not. Most likely, it won't. But who knows ?

The sales will probably be dead for most of January, but they might pick back up to 30-45k in February.

Nintendo should have thrown DK in January. Last year there was not even launch momentum after the holidays and it fell off extremely fast. The best Nintendo can hope for it seems without 3rd party support is to get 1 game a month or at least around that.

Seems unlikely when a large portion of the audience for DKCR probably already owns the system., especially now that NSMBU is bundled in.

Nobody knows, but what we do know is that Wii U is also finally going to have next gen competition next year in the form of the PS4. And who knows what the response in Japan will be to that console. I am sure speculation of its success/failure will be a hot topic as we roll into 2014

The response to that product has been euphoric in the west, setting records in NA and UK, but that does not mean it will translate in Japan

January is typically a very tough sales month isn't it? I already know it'll get low, baseline will be interesting but I'm looking past January personally. As in how the AAA titles affect sales, what else is announced and how 2014 as a whole will look schedule-wise, and how strongly the PS4 does and whatever effects from that.

Drakengard 3 had a pretty decent sell-through. Have to wonder how it compares to the previous entries in the series.

Nice! Hopefully it makes profit for SE :)

Sales are lower than Drakengard 1 and 2 so if those sales meant no middle budget titles for home consoles Drakengard 3 performence won't change their mind but you never know with SE.

* Super Mario 3D World almost tied with Nintendo Land for 2nd best selling Wii U-game, right?

* Pokémon passes Animal Crossing as best selling 3DS-game, not counting digital sales.

* The Top 5 selling 3DS-games of all time are all in the Top 20 this week! Go legs!

I don't think that's what you should get out of that. The Wii U can still do really well during the holiday and yet it might not change it's fortune to collapse hard outside of the holidays like the Gamecube.

At the very least this will court Konami, Capcom and Square Enix. Western "obssessed with specs" devs are a hopeless cause.

Famitsu Rankings, Week 51, 2013 (Dec 15 - Dec 22)

Nintendo 3DS (245,046)
Nintendo Wii U (119,159)

PlayStation Vita (49,366)
PlayStation 3 (23,493)
PlayStation Portable (7,697)
Nintendo Wii (2,444)
Xbox 360 (607)

The 3DS (183,762 -> 245,046) and Wii U (72,982 -> 119,159) jumps demonstrate Nintendo's prowess in the holiday season.

Therefore, while I'm glad both consoles achieved success, I'm not surprised...I expected it, in a way.

What continues to grab my interest is how the Wii U will perform after the holiday season.

It'll be back to selling poorly again. But this should hopefully make NCL realise that tossing aside their beloved family audience was daft from the very beginning.

Good luck with that when they barely supported the Wii (well besides Capcom). The only console games all those developers are making are targeted primarily at the west anyway. Also one good holiday season does not negate a year of horrendous sales to businesses looking at the system.

I wouldn't be surprised if the game has past the 1 million mark already... BOMBA !!! :p.

GameCube lifetime sales are the best Nintendo can hope for regarding WiiU at this stage imo infact after it selling 3k per week in Japan and 30k per month in America in its first year I think they would secretly be ecstatic with 21 million lifetime sales. Their investors obviously won't be...

Your ultra-low expectations for the successor of Wii explain now your happiness for every mediocre-selling Wii U title.

No it wont, third parties are jumping ship. And western third parties who are "obsessed with specs" have supported the Wii U far better than Japanese third parties have.

Madoka kinda bombed... I'm surprised, did people really hate the last movie or something? (I don't know anything about Madoka...)

Can we expect the new Sword Art Online game to suffer the same fate?

There are pics of it being sold out at some stores, and first day sell through was 60%-70% according to Chris in the last thread. Seems like it had a fairly small initial print run, probably around 50k.
