Media Create Sales: Week 8, 2017 (Feb 20 - Feb 26)

GamesMaya's report says more or less what we already know. Top 3 games are:

1. Zelda Breath of the Wild
2. 1-2-Switch
3. Bomberman R

Console sold out. Accessories as well.

In the end Zelda will play big role at first weeks with Switch weak launch line-up.

Sell-outs at small or big retailers depend on the size of the shipment each one received. We had many meltdowns with supposed PS4 shortage from many brave warriors of SDF with PS4 at launch, soon it wlll show if there is really hype or its just the initial rush until shipments normalize.

Massive spike for meltdowns and fanboy wars maybe. As if there isn't already a lot of pollution in here from the usual suspects we'll have new entries.

There is nothing unpredictable for PS4. It will end where it looked from the beginning, like almost all systems before. Switch vs. PS4 isn't anything special. Everything will be clear by the end of the year if there will actually be a battle or not.

lol, Chris :) I think you're overreacting little.

also, just curious, what does SDF stand for? Self-Defense Forces?

Also he isn't overeacting. Some of the shit in the WiiU and PS4 launch weeks was insane.

Switch will be the same. I revisited some old threads from 3DS and Vita launch and things weren't actually so bad, Vita's fate was accepted almost immediately and 3DS expectations were in hold until big titles come out.

Apparently Disgaea 5 Complete has about 600 people on its leader board thing.

23 years is a hell of a run in this industry, NIS.

23 years is a hell of a run in this industry, NIS.

I don't remember: what percentage of overall buyers does the NIS website show?

EDIT: Also, is there a link to check out NIS's leader boards?

EDIT 2: Found the news on Hokanko.
In more details (if I understand everything correctly): there were 203 people at around Japanese 16:00 registered, while the total increased up to 683 in the Japanese morning of March 4th. And the PS4 version stays at around 66k as of the last update (i.e. this morning).

It's in-game.

The blog I read said the Switch number (682 at the time of writing) represented like 1/100 of the PS4 one's, which would be in-line with the 60k number it allegedly sold over there.

I fear we won't receive further updates from Japanese blogs of any kind, and I suppose no one here has the Japanese version of the game to check the in-game leaderboard. It's more like I'd like to know the way the tracker updates itself, since the change from March 3rd afternoon to March 4th's morning is so relatively big (I mean, the refresh rate).

P.S. since NIS already said they have more Switch games in the works, I hope they don't make them disappear all of a sudden.

Over a port?

Who are you, Oregano?

He's Mr. 60k.

That was a shipment forecast (as all the others), not a first week forecast. Around 10% of preorders on a 60k shipment means around 6-7k of preorders, which could've translated into around 12-15k of first week (between more preorders and copies picked up without preorders).

Still, missing my forecast by (seemingly) that much stings :(

Well you can hope that the people who bought the game simply haven't opened it yet because they're too engrossed in Zelda thus far.

I'm sure NIS is happy to sell 3 digits of their flagship brand, after all its just a port!

Not like they've released ports in the past that have done literally more than ten times those sales.

We're taking first-day leaderboard figures as sales gospel now?

Turns out many are just playing the same game on the same Switch on different accounts to inflate the numbers.

Only Nippon Ichi employees actually got the game.

What I don't understand is the general lack of marketing for Disgaea 5 Complete.

There's just not much buzz from NIS I feel. I mean make people aware it exists! :p

nis probably could have sold 5000 units and made a profit. then there is going to be a shitload more from western sales. marketing might have actually put it in the red.

Dunno. I wouldn't. I'd play Zelda!

That's what I'm thinking lol. If you want to play a single player game when you first get your Switch, Zelda is likely what you were buying the Switch for. If not, the multiplayer games would be 1-2 Switch & Bomberman. If I'm not mistaken, everything in Disgaea 5 Complete was already in the PS4 version, just as DLC right? We'll see how this goes, although I'm not expecting much.

There is no sort of advertising for Disgaea, let alone Disgaea for switch. I'm still on the fence of buying it. I have played the first 3, and they were fun, however I am not sure I want any more, the story after the first entry I can't even remember, and beside this post all my time is dedicated to Zelda. I'll buy more games after I have beaten Zelda.

Fair enough but "We can't compete with Nintendo" is like no.3 on the list of reasons third parties don't support Nintendo. It's like that isn't an issue.

Also personally speaking I've played all three of my launch games for at least a bit, Zelda the most obviously though.

Maya-san is reporting a lot of pre-orders for the next Switch's shipment.

Also, PS4 games like Horizon or NieR are still selling very well.

Don't worry NIS, I have already preordered five thousands copies of Disgaea 5 complete, I'll make sure you won't go bankrupt and keep making Disgaea games.

YSO is predicting a +70% drop for the second week of Zelda, usually standard for the type of game it is but the console launch should've soften that.

It could mean less than 100k for Switch during its second week, which isn't very good, though we'd need to see if YSO is on the ball park for the first week prior.

They're also expecting a very good first week for Kingdom Hearts 4.
