Instagram already allows softcore porn/erotica.
Yeah.. that's only softcore porn if you live in places like Pakistan
Huh, I thought that was already gone? I'm on there daily and haven't had that happen except on the day Elon tweeted about it.
It's still there but the limits are much higher.

Also this Threads thing isn't coming to Europe

Threads is a very generic name for a company that literally spends hundreds of millions of dollars on marketing.

Just shows that facebook is a company that just doesnt get it.

It won't be a real competitor unless they allow porn.

Porn on an app is overrated because everyone just links to a place where they can do true porn. Instagram/TikTok/Threads/Twitter/etc is all just about funneling.

I also saw that verification on Instagram is $15 a month, fucking ridiculous.

People use IG to look at each others asses, flirt and take a shot.
Reading what they think about stuff is kind of a deal-breaker in this simple relation between users.

App is beautiful however of course the home feed is just full of influencers. I’m just hiding them all. They need trending topics and a few other features but at this point twitter wasn’t providing any value with news anymore

App seems to work smooth..

But not sure why they would release without trending lists

Not even sure you can search for words

Kind of missing the mark for function..

From what I can gather on Bluesky, the timeline on Threads is a mess. I was going to check it out but I see it's only functioning on the phone app. Which means as soon as you log in Meta will be able to scrub your phone's metadata and trivially tell exactly who you are and your identities and such on other apps you use on your phone. So I'll just wait until they enable federation and access it via a different client.

Besides, the screenshots I saw of the content there just seems to be brands circle jerking and the kinds of users who pay for blue checks on Twitter. I won't be missing out.

Launch has gone quite nicely, 2M signups (mostly ppl with pre-existing IG accounts) so far.

why are you so obsessed with bluesky? i read their docs earlier this year and it still has the issue of how to handle global views. The BGS is just like a really big node and it doesnt take away the retention and performance costs of its PDS. Has something changed?

Whatever you think about Twitter (either in general or how it’s been run recently) it would be bad for Meta to own Facebook, Instagram and a replacement for Twitter.
Would it be considered a monopoly?

Either way, I’m not on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter, and I won’t be on this drivel either. Fuck the lot of them 😂

I doubt it since Threads is going to be decentralized, a part of the Fediverse. They're going to start using the ActivityPub protocol at first. So people won't be forced to use Meta's website or app to engage with it. One will be able to use something like Mastodon (and later Bluesky and even Tumblr) and so long as their instance is connected to Threads, be able to follow specific users on the platform.

Just one of the strengths of decentralized social media. Including privacy, since none of your personal info will be shared between platforms, and you won't be subjected to whatever the foreign instances timeline and algorithms are - you'll only see the content from the specific users you follow. All good stuff.
