I’m glad he said it, was getting worried for a minute.
Acquisitios of Activision and Bethesda (in quantity of quality studios and IP) provides a pretty good cushion for quite a few missteps.I doubt it.
As shit as Sony is with their decisions lately, MS always messes up sooner or later.
MS now has significantly more 1st party studios than Sony and their IP list completely blows Sony's out of the water by comparison.
On paper. But I just don't feel like it will manifest into huge results.
I hope I'm wrong because Sony needs to get their ass kicked to truly be in top form.
Yeah, if you actually watch his podcast he seems like a cool guy. It's like hanging out with your dad, only he tries to talk games with you, but still has a dad perspective. It's just his opinion, and it generates interesting discussions every time.Pachter actually came off decent and relatable.
I keep hearing how consoles will go away...but we never sold as many consoles are right now overall. One interesting other tidbit was he fel that Amazon will be a huge player in the future once consoles go away because their infrastructure, etc. is already built to handle it. Its also who Microsoft is most scared of. (W
I'm not sure why some people are even looking forward to this shitty "cloud/streaming " future.I keep hearing how consoles will go away...but we never sold as many consoles are right now overall.
Is there any indication sales will drop of a cliff?
On top of this he actually said that in the next 10-15 years there won't be any consoles, but will be cloud based with a little Streaming box or adapter.
This is where he thinks Amazon is going to come in.
We're really using this guys videos now?
And Pachter? So the opposite will happen.
Apparently, the future is all one side has.I'm not sure why some people are even looking forward to this shitty "cloud/streaming " future.
Wtf does this even mean?
Yes, he's a cool guy and makes good points from time to time but often gets batantly wrong.I listened to the podcast. It was a longer discussion than this spicy headline of Sony cant compete and will be gone in 10 years.
I'll expand:
He also said that Sony is resting on the massive leads they built up in other territories US & UK (2:1), Middle East (10:1), etc. Sony views XBox as an anomaly and only US centric.
Where they will be in trouble is in 10 years, as there will be no need for consoles and they aren't positioned well for the future as they are reliant on consoles and have some good IP, but not enough content to fill a GamePass type service (primary driver for MS acquisition of Activision - duh).
One interesting other tidbit was he fel that Amazon will be a huge player in the future once consoles go away because their infrastructure, etc. is already built to handle it. Its also who Microsoft is most scared of. (Which back up Phil's comments about XBox's true competition).
Pachter actually came off decent and relatable. It was an enjoyable podcast and def not console fanboy flame war commentary. Check it out if interested in hearing for yourself.

On the RDX podcast today Michael Pachter was asked about how he sees the landscape between Sony and Microsoft this gen, to which he replied "I think PlayStation is doomed, and I think they will cease to exist with how we know them in about 10 years. They can't compete, they have no chance of competing".
His point is that Gamepass is going to become the biggest thing in gaming and Sony don't have the first party studios to fill a comparable service, and the back catalogue that MS is going to have when Activision closes is a mountain too high for them.
While he might be laughed at by some here, he is the leading games futurist and he influences investment decisions amongst other things.
Time stamp 56 40
He's laughed at because some of us have known him for over 15 years. He's been wrong 90% of the time. Some of you youngins only learned his name 2 weeks ago.
I doubt he gives out his real market analysis for free on youtube. I think he just shoots the shit for fun.For a real life market analyzer, he is pretty bad. Sony can compete in different ways. They can differentiate, they can provide a product no one else does in their first party games. Sony will be fine, they may lose market share, but they will be fine.
Only someone who doesn't understand the power of videogames would say something this stupid. I do believe Game Pass will become one of the biggest things in all of gaming, and I do believe its value will be tough to match.
But here's the problem with saying Sony is doomed and will cease to exist: if you just love fucking games, there's no way you'll ever stop caring about the games Playstation has, but that Xbox doesn't have. Gamers = greed. You can never have enough. You want it all.
Well he sells it for WEBUSH.....but it should be better than what he is saying here.I doubt he gives out his real market analysis for free on youtube. I think he just shoots the shit for fun.
Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter doesn’t seem to think so- speaking exclusively to GamingBolt, Pachter said that the game’s innate ‘Japanese-ness’ will hold it back from broad commercial appeal, at least in terms of selling systems.
I am still waiting for the death of physical games. If that thing cant die, then there is no way Sony will be out of business by gamepass.I think he’s just trolling at this point. He probably believes the general gist of his arguments, but then he exagerrates it to get a rise out of people.
Literally clicked the thread to post this.Pachter.
So the opposite will happen
70% of something is better than 100% of nothing.
We are not talking small numbers here that can be ignored to 'win' some console war for your fans that you personally (as in MS not you) don't even care about anymore.
Ms want gamepass on everything. They have already asked Nintendo and Sony if they can go on those platforms.I just don't see much momentum in that direction, if it was I think you would have seen Bethesda games stay multiplatform. There is benefits to controlling your own sandbox long term that I think ms values in the long term picture. While its true releasing on every platform now would help the immediate bottom line, I don't think that's the plan long term for most of the studios.
has he ever been right? Yes, he influences investment decisions cause smart people do the opposite of what he says. While he might be laughed at by some here, he is the leading games futurist and he influences investment decisions amongst other things
