What sad is years ago many made the argument about what AI and automation would do to many industries and it seems like many didn't listen until it was their job that was being taken.
This isn't going to end well for many in this career field.
Technology has always come along that has made peoples work obsolete and will continue to do so, it's not a new thing. A few examples;
Lamplighter - Before electric street lights, a lamplighter would go around town extinguishing and lighting gas-burning street lamps. When cities replaced gas lamps with electric light bulbs, lamplighters became jobless.
Lector - In the early 1900s, factories employed a lector to read books or newspapers aloud to keep employees entertained. The lector would often stand or sit on an elevated surface while reading the news so that the entire factory could hear.
Clock Keeper - In the middle ages, people hired clock keepers to track time and maintain clocks and other timekeeping devices. Clock keepers often received significant amounts of money to ensure the accuracy of a clock, as the job involved some basic skills in mathematics in a time when education was not yet widespread.
Milkman - Before pasteurized milk and household refrigerators, milkmen had to deliver milk daily to ensure it didn't spoil. With the rise of home refrigeration, however, the occupation disappeared. Some do still exist but numbers are very small.
I think A.I. though does however threaten a lot of traditionally highly paid workers in areas such as finance, law and some medical as well as the voice actors this thread is discussing which does differentiate it from the many of the jobs that have been obsolete in the past. Pretty much anything where there is a lot of repetition and driven by rules and patterns is at risk. As these jobs disappear though, other opportunities will become available. Let's be honest here as well, voice actor is a pretty niche job so even if all voice acting jobs disappeared it's not going to affect any where near the number of people that the jobs I listed above did at the time. Still, it sucks if that is your job and you're facing redundancy.
