I currently have a Geforce 2...(haven't done anything beside Starcraft a few years ago) and a 1.4 GHz AMD Athlon. I have 700 MBs+ of RAM so that's really not an issue.

I'm considering getting a motherboard combo: $269 - Athlon 64 3000 with cpu, fan

I'm also trying to get a decent video card. I don't want to spend more than $150 on it though...and DVI out would be something I want as well.

Any help appreciated.

ATI 9600xt and if you can spare the 50 extra get a 9800 its worth the money. And where did you see that package for 269? that looks sweet.

You'll need some good RAM to go w/ the mobo/cpu.

The GF4 MX line were geforce's 2, well not exactly, NV17, the GTS back then were NV15, pretty much the same core.
