Wouldn't it have better, cost effective wise for you to get a Dell Axim? That's what i have been wanting but i thought it was to expensive, but yeah getting a 1GB Mem stick would drive up prices...Mejilan said:Though we've had these threads before (many times), we like you, so we won't be too hard on you.
From personal experience, my PSP CANNOT compare to my iPod.
I have an iPod photo 60gb, and that goes for $450 now. Not including my games (of which I have 7), I spent close to $500 for my PSP and 1gb mem stick. 1 gb. To be fair, when I got the iPod, it retailed for $600 (I got it with a student discount, however.)
But I have SIXTY times the storage space for music or photos than the PSP. I haven't bothered with the movie playback in over month, now that the novelty has completely worn off. Poor video playback plus stripped down sound = no fun. I'm just waiting for the emu scene to conquer the firmware, that'll finally justify the purchsae of that 1gb mem stick.
I don't own a PDA or a portable DVD player, so I cannot speak of those.
Depends which aspect of the screen's quality is being evaluated. For PDA functions which can use a lot of text, a higher resolution screen like VGA can be important. Systems like the Dell Axims had already gone to that.No handheld video player or PDA has better screen
No chance it can replace a Zen. Even for video it's clumsy but YMMV.DCX said:Can a PSP effectively replace the need of those other media type players?? I have interested in getting a Zen MP3 player but the influx of new video players on the market has me interested in them, and i have been wanting a PDA for a while.
Great advice, which is why i think an Axim would do me great...it's basically a mini PC, tons of storage, VGA screen...i'm sure emus work with it...i'm not to sold on PSP games...i have a SP for gaming on the go...aoi tsuki said:PDAs are great, but if you just need to keep track of contacts and appointments, you might be better off using your cell phone, especially if you can sync it with your PC. i know several people who have had PDAs or still have them, used them for the first month, then hardly ever touch them. Many just realized they didn't
Personal media players are great too, but how often are you going to be watching video on the go? Outside of the people who have daily train/bus rides, i don't see many adults really having a use for them. If you do go the PMP route, make sure it's something easily pocketable, and look into a model with a remote so that you can keep the unit in your pocket when you're listening to music.

Now, it would be better than a flash media based mp3 player, I assume...

I can confirm you can do that without problem, just follow what mrklaw said above. Another little known thing, you can also have album art icons on every MP3 file and every folder - just embed them in the MP3 files using some ID3 tag editor.I want to put separate albums in separate folders with their respective playlist in the mp3 root directory. But it doesnt, and because of that the mp3 player is a bit annoying.

So bascially, to listen to MP3s and watch movies you would need to use SD cards? So, it's like a PSP with memory sticks...man if an Axim had a 10GB HD in addition to SD cards it would be ace.mrklaw said:No, you whack in an SD card and use that.
The comment was regarding PDA's more general computing focus and the resulting need for resolution, where the 640x480 Dell Axim x50v display is higher quality than the 480x272 PSP screen.i have 2 dell axims pda and their screens dont reach the psp quality
