The good news: Doom 2016 has not become obsolete because of the new one.
As much as I loved Eternal, by the time I was finishing my 2nd playtrough I had this nagging feeling that I preferred the simplicity of the combat loop in the first one...
Just look at the contrast between both:
Eternal encourages going aerial and dashing all over the place. You can easily play the floor is lava and never have to touch the ground just by doing combos of meathook, double dash, vaulting, teleporting to a glory kill from an absurd distance and immediately restart the sequence thanks to abilities cooldowns.
Now DOOM 2016:
Boots on the ground all the way, the slayer moves about 10-15% faster than in Eternal, you have one double jump and that's it.
I feel like this simplicity was more apt for the power fantasy Doom is supposed to be, but what do I know?
How do you feel about Eternals combat design direction?
Personally I would like the dashing to go away in the next one.
