I don't understand why Sony would show off unreal 5 with the ps5 if virtually none of their big studios use the engine, unlike Microsoft.
Sony has not announced any new internally-produced games since that UE5 reveal, I don't think?
Once PS5 came out, PlayStation has been focused on re-introducing games from its previous 2020 announcements, like Ratchet and Returnal and other games that reached stores or are near to release. They have been practically radio-silent about Horizon Forbidden West or GoW Ragnarok or GT7 or any of the future projects it teased in its big PS5 showcase events (and none of those games were announced to be or are expected to be using UE5; Unreal Engine 5 debuted in May, just before that show.) Aside from the Jade Raymond and Firewalk deal announcements, Sony has concentrated on games shipping/releasing soon, and has not yet let on much about its deep future plans, UE5 or otherwise.
But also, I was trying to look up what's actually announced to be using UE5, because I also had the question, what studios does Microsoft have using the engine besides The Coalition? Hellblade 2 is confirmed as a project that "the team will be building the game on Unreal 5 and leveraging the power of Xbox Series X".(They say "will be building", and what we saw in 2019 was probably rigged in UE4 and custom tools, but I wouldn't be surprised if Ninja Theory was a pilot partner with Epic in getting UE5 tools early.) And then Inxile's Brian Fargo said it'll use UE5 for its future title, which hadn't started as of May 2020 but would be their next title. So, that is three.
For sure 3 UE5 game announcements is more than Sony's 0 announcements as of today, and having the first official game announced on it with Hellblade 2 is a nice check on the board for Xbox after Sony made the first UE5 move. Then again, it is still so early for UE5. Epic hasn't even shown it off a second time yet or made any new major UE5 announcements in almost a year despite UE5 supposedly releasing for developers this year. (GDC got pushed back from its usual March event so we have to assume we'll get more of UE5 at GDC in July, if not sooner?)
So far the confirmed Unreal Engine 5 list is just Fortnite, Hellblade 2, The Coalition project, Inxile project, and some wishful-thinking indies like ArcheAge 2 and Dreamhouse VR. (Also, not FF7R#2)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_...or planning for it than we know of right now.
