Eh, this is close to what usually happens. Was a bit more even last year, but still favored the western-developed blockbuster game that makes us realize games are art over everything else.
Using the GAF count, it was a lot closer last year, and still kinda close the year before. UC2 is a runaway winner compared to the last two years. The main thing the winners seem to have in common is boring gameplay and excellent cut scenes.

Yeah, I'm sure that's why UC2 is the run-away winner this year on Gaf and in the media. No one has noticed its boring gameplay, because we're all staring at it's amazing cutscenes.

:rolleyes

Seriously dude, you have been complaining about this for so long, and you have yet to make a compelling argument as to why the previous system was better :lol

The main thing the winners seem to have in common is boring gameplay and excellent cut scenes.

Now we agree on something, holy shit SMG and TP had some of the most boring gameplay, specially AI.... hopefully the next Mario/Zelda are better games

Wired: Left 4 Dead 2

http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2009/12/top-10-games-of-2009/all/1

Kinda nice they went with a dark horse pick, and shined a light on a game that deserves it but will be overlooked with the usual top three contenders being so strong, and MW2 being so commercially successful, but Wired's list is pretty crazy. I think they are using it for hit-bait or something...

Wired.com’s Game of the Year: Left 4 Dead 2 (Xbox 360, PC)
2. Assassin’s Creed II (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3)
3. New Super Mario Bros. Wii
4. Batman: Arkham Asylum (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC)
5. Punch-Out!! (Wii)
6. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (PlayStation 3)
7. Rhythm Heaven (Nintendo DS)
8. Chinatown Wars (Nintendo DS, PSP)
9. Beatles: Rock Band (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii)
10. Flower (PlayStation 3)

Seriously, Punch Out! is a Top 5 game this year and is better than Uncharted 2? :lol

Once you get over the admittedly-substantial nostalgia pull, Punch Out! is pretty lame, and strangely, is kinda bad with the motion control, which is the whole point to have this on the Wii. I think nostalgia weighs pretty heavy on Wired's staff though, because I don't think there's any reason to put NSMBW over Batman:AA either, and I actually had a blast playing NSMBW with my nephews over the holiday. It's certainly not a bad game, and waaaaay better than Punch Out!, but it's outside the Top 5 for me...this year was just too strong.

....

You've completely ignored which thread you're posting in haven't you? I'm not talking about GAF GoTY.

CBC - Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

CBC is the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Canada's equivalent of PBS or BBC.

You listed two irrelevant points and then just left it at "deep gameplay system". I think you should learn about what makes a fighter shallow, then talk.

Thanks, updated with all of those aside from Charts, which we don't acknowledge on this board.

AC2 is neck-and-neck with MW2 for 2nd place in the battle of the 2's.

Newsarama kept crashing Firefox. Good times.

These picks are all full of win and match my picks perfectly. Also, Uncharted 2 was my pick for this year too.
