Some people feel vindicated now that it appears that MS had the right direction all along despite the ridicule they received at the beginning of the generation. It's easy to talk about moving on when fans of a certain device had lots to say previously but now want to change the subject. In the end people care because they like seeing success on their preferred platform.

The better question is, why in the world do you all care so much about what each company says, knowing their strategy is likely to change based on things that are happening in the market (and internally). Both companies will adjust their strategy to fit their business. Things can change. The market is dynamic and so the companies also have to be.

I am not saying they changed their release platforms lol. The narrative has been that Sony said A and started doing B or Microsoft was saying B and did A. The point about companies changing strategy is still a valid point. If Company ABC says they are going to use Strategy A but learn the market isn't receptive to it and/or their internal plans change so they end up implementing strategy B, which is not a big departure from Strategy A but is one none the less so they move forward with it.

Fanboys will see and use that info a certain way but it's stupid to argue over it, over and over again.

I haven't given any examples so not sure why people keep bringing those up and asking me but one example of something that could impact internal planning or strategies across the board has been COVID.

Yep. I think a lot of people thought Microsoft was foolish for their cross gen approach and even going day one with PC releases, but they've turned out to be absolutely right. People are continuing to buy Xbox Series consoles even though every game is playable on PC. People ridiculed their cross gen approach but it has worked out, and Sony is doing the same thing, to a worse degree in fact.

Microsoft has some smart people running their Xbox division. They've made all the right decisions as of late. Gotta hand it to them!

Because, GASP, people like to be able to play their games wherever they want. A lot of people who play on PC would still like to kick back and play a game on their big screen TV, and most of those people won't (or won't know how to) run a HDMI cable from their PC to their TV; so they'll buy a box to play games on their TV. And MS gives them the option of playing the same game they were playing on the PC on that console.

You also can't forget the promotional info for games like GT7 showed it just being on just PS5 then it was updated to be on both PS4 and PS5. There was a bit more to the story than people taking Jim Ryan's comments out of context. The ridicule at MS stance initially was also quite obvious and few took it as a positive at first.

I'll stand by my thinking that Sony's statements were ridiculously ambiguous by design and they got the media response they were looking to attain at that time. The proof of that is that they didn't correct the narrative when the media completely "misunderstood" their statements (by the logic being presented here), which is something they would have done in a heartbeat if they weren't trying to imply that cross-gen wasn't a thing at Sony. The last thing you would want is the media spreading ideas as fact that you were doing XYZ when your real intentions ran counter to that. Obviously they knew that they would have to announce the PS4 versions eventually but I assume they were trying to ride a positive wave of energy in May and figured by September they could drop the news as a footnote buried in a press release.

People like talk about how we did not read the article in "context", while ignoring in the same breath the bigger context how Sony were announcing games implicitly or explicitly as PS5 only. At the time of the interview, miles morales and HFW were only announced for PS5 months after their official reveal.

As the other guy showed, most Sony guys here who will jump on you and start saying that you are reading it "out of context" are the same guys who were praising Sony for their stance. Including panjeev2001 who try to defend Jimbo on every possible chance was on that thread posting about the news and never corrected anyone.

What these guys wants to do is that any statement of Sony can be interpreted in any way. Lol at the guy who said "PS5 exclusive could mean that it is only at launch for one day" or some shit.
