Money grubbing managers fucking it up for everybody.

Let's move away from the one thing people come to our game for and make it as unoriginal as possible by being a clone of more popular already established games nobody will leave for our game.
Just put Eimi Fukada in charge and I'll buy it.

I’m not surprised in the least. If you played the game for just 10 minutes, you would get all of this information too.

I’ve basically got no words for 2042. It’s such a miserable experience outside of Portal (which has its own, less annoying issues) that is completely void of personality and lacks any soul.

EA and DICE can honestly do one after this release. Now I’ll just wait for the BF defence force to show up and tell me how wrong I am and how the game is actually great underneath the bugs.

Their extreme struggle with the engine explains why the game's graphical fidelity looks two generations behind Battlefield I and V.

They probably had to boot all complex geometry and reduce the maps to flat plains to get this shit running in the first place. Look at how rectangular all the buildings are, for example. As little detail as possible.

What a mess. There's no coming back from this with this kind of management, I fear. DICE is dead, Battlefield is dead. Congrats, EA. You killed another legacy franchise. Andrew Wilson, you dumb motherfucker.

People who complain should just play military shooters from small and dedicated devs, from teams which really love their product and want the players to actually have -sit down folks- fun. CoD and BF started kind of small themselves and became so huge that too many head-ofs want to have their piece of cake. I remember playing CoD, United Offensive, BF1942, Vietnam and and BF2 and felt how much love and dedication went into them. Today I can recommend

Hell Let Loose
Squad
Arma
Post Scriptum

This is the problem trying to bring fans of whats popular into established franchises. More and more devs doing it and alienating their core players.

Battlefield has probably been the most mismanaged I've seen in my life. Constantly changing shit to see what sticks, they need to go back to what made the game great in the first place and deliver just that. I genuinely can't believe they fucked up so bad on what was essentially a home run.

Yep..Its NOT an miserable experience, that's your opinion. Generally when I'm playing online most people actually love the game..but they agree it needs patches...seems like most people just want the same game every year...god forbid innovation..any game that steps outside of the normal yearly formula (Fortnite, FIFA, Madden, COD) is blasted, but yet gamers scream for innovation...Its always accounts with no pfp swarming in with hyperbolic takes and aggressive tones pretending EVERYONE shares the same sentiment.

The thing I hate about all of this is the chasing industry trends. You don't gain any traction or a new fanbase by chasing what's popular. The average normie isn't going to hang around and play the same thing when shiny new thing is around the corner. So instead all that happens is you piss off existing fans, maybe gain a short term bump in new users who will fall off just as quickly as they go back to Fortnite and then you've effectively killed your long standing franchise.

How hard can it be to just make a good Battlefield game? The skeleton is there from previous games on the same engine. If the game is good enough, then the userbase will soon follow. Streamers only help further highlight how good something is. Look at how much Warzone was pulling down each day last year, I'd argue that was in part thanks to the huge amount of people streaming the game and keeping it at the forethought of every single gamer's mind.

It's unbelievable how EA keep fumbling this, especially when it really shouldn't be that hard to still make tonnes of money through mtx, special editions and EA Play subs which in turn appeases shareholders.

2042 is not a Battlefield game. It's some weird, offshoot hybrid that wears the skin of the series but really has no right to call itself part of the same franchise.

Many of us have long suspected that this game was originally built up as a BR game. All the problems come from this and the lack of time EA gave to Dice to turn this into a regular BF title is shocking. All the departures from the team make so much sense now.
I can't imagine how it must feel for developers who gave so many years of dedication and passion to a beloved series get basically screwed over by the EA leadership.
I also don't envy the other teams who were scrambled from other projects to help turn this around. What a goddamn clusterfuck.

The saddest thing is it's always the average developer who gets the short end of the stick and I truly feel for them.

Sony

Nintendo
Activision has been giving COD fans COD because they want COD.
EA has been given BF fans anything but BF because they want BF.
?!?!

Shits a bit depressing. If true, it sounds like the bosses at EA walk into work trying to decide on ways to kill off their own games while making their developers perform with the least amount of creativity possible.

Imagine going to a meeting and being told some sh*t like whats rumored in the op...probably walk out of there logging into your Linkedin to job search lol

The future thing proper makes me laugh. One of the creators of CoD is in charge of BF now and people think that's a good thing. When it's fundamentally different game styles.
More importantly isn't he also tied into apex legends? Which is what ea wants to turn BF into?

Sounds like your typical corporate greed.
Instead of being happy with a popular and well selling franchise that sets itself apart from the competition, they'll throw it all away chasing trends on the one in a million chance they'll make something that COD and Battle Royale fans will also want to play (rather than COD on their preferred battle royale).

Also damn that future outlook, if true, sounds like RIP Battlefield.

I have to ask, what exactly is innovative in BF2042? The player count? Even DICE found increased player counts didn't make the game "more fun".

Destruction is pared back, weapon selection is lacking, player roles are now a mess, specialists don't add anything beyond confusion. So where is the innovation?

I hope the hero shooter rumor is true. Go ahead and bury the franchise.

Sad part is, the game will sell fewer units and be played by fewer players than a standard BF launch...but a small percentage will spend money on passes and make the game more profitable than previous BF games...

This is why Portal is the best part of 2042. Clearly didn't know what they wanted to do with 2042.

Glad I didn't give them any money. Im sure it'll turn into a much better experience later on after some patches tho. But its not worth asking price rn.

It not being a miserable experience is also your opinion that apparently very few people actually share.

I am absolutely up for innovation, but what exactly did they do here that screams innovation? Specialists? Nope, we’ve had a ton of hero shooters and Siege. More importantly, 2042 doesn’t do this well at all. In fact it’s absolutely detrimental to the team based experience.

128 players? No chance, MAG did more players than this over 10 years ago albeit in a slightly different way.

Although I toyed with the idea of getting the game, I'm a bit put off by this:

I played insurgency when it was a source mod (2005/2006 or something?) and really enjoyed it, and I think I'd like the current game as well. But passes like this completely turn me off.

Those are just skins that don't affect the game in any way.
You only need to buy these packs if you want to support the developers.
You get all the maps, guns and gameplay features.
The base game has a ton of suits and camos to choose, without buying any of those packs.

That are some good news. I should consider buying it - if I ever feel the urge to leave my beloved WWII battle scenario in the future.

Do the purchasable skins fit naturally into the game, or are they particularly good, in the sense of being better camouflaged, or silly like the brightly colored CoD clown-skins?

They didn't even innovate anything. They just killed the core of what Battlefield is. All they needed to do was do another solid modern warfare setting Battlefield game. I don't know what they were thinking but they just couldn't resist fucking it up.

A bit like Rainbow Six Extraction. Everyone can see from a mile off that's going to be a hot pile of garbage but they won't be told.

They all fit into the game. They are all camos and normal clothing. No clown crap.
The default skins are as good as camo, as these paid skins.

If the part about BC3 being cancelled is true than they can eat shit forever. All of this "WE WANT CHARACTERZ N STORIES IN MAINLINE BF DERP DERP" when you had great characters in Bad Company that were fun and you can put them in any sort of situation and I'm going to buy it/play it.

Leave the mainline Battlefield games as they are supposed to be--big battles with infantry and vehicles with classes. That being said I don't hate BF2042 and think they can continue to improve it but they really need to make very different looking versions of the specialists depending on what side you are playing on because it looks fucking stupid with a bunch of the exact same characters running around fighting each other.

By far my favorite military fps this year.
It's been out since 2018, unless you mean on consoles.

I too played the mod back in the day. I think it came out in 2008.

That's just cosmetics. They have a bunch of $3 packs, and introduced the season passes when they launched on console. You absolutely don't need any of those.
