Twitch bans Adults Only games

Sounds like a slippery slope. What's banned next, unrated games? And then M rated games that show nipples or butts? And then we are left with only E for Everyone games? Good thing there are alternatives to Twitch.

No it doesn't, it's perfectly in line with industry norms, thinking this is the beginning of a slippery slope is unreasonsable.

fyi: if hitbox ever actually got popular outside of the "rebelling against twitch" crowd, they would censor and have technical issues just the same.

I'll never get to see Tarnsman stream Lula 3d :(

Oh well, hopefully Adam_AK can figure out a way past this or just stick to Vice City

It's the fact that this issue is small potatoes and yet they're still trying to police it is what irks me. And you have other shit like banning Meg Turney for playing IN A BRA (o my) that makes me wonder what weirdo puritans run Twitch. I'll likely never watch a stream of an AO game and I don't need to see a lo-res stream of woman playng games, so this is more principle than anything.

Owners of alternatives to Twitch: don't get bought out.

This streamer doesn't seem to be banned or anything. But fully clothed PS2 era models simulating sex is too hot for twitch?

Xion_Stellar

People should stop referencing data that makes me feel uncomfortable because games get ported to platforms I don't like
Yes just keep taking things away twitch I just hope that hitbox and YouTube give you a run for your money.

So Mortal Kombat X with all of its gore and violence is okay.

It's a weird day when you can let underage kids view as much violence as possible in every form, but you better not show off some polygon boobs and sex acts cause that would warp their minds. Yes twitch is 100% within their right to ban something they don't want because it is their service, but we have the right to think it's dumb.

Adults Only games are verbotent, but borderline prostitution is still perfectly cool with Twitch:

It's like Myfreecams without masturbation!

I don't think it's that big of a deal. San Andreas not being allowed will probably cause a stir since it's a popular title in the series. Other than that, meh.

Stupid. Fuck censorship.

Censorship ... I'm dying here. A company can do whatever they want. They can target whatever demography they want. They can make up rules on the go. They can offer you a service with _their_ rules. They can do whatever they want to prevent bad press. You don't like it? Stop using their service or et your own streaming site going.

Calling any of that censorship is just sad. Gaming will never get out of it's "niche" with a community like this.

Yep, it's 100% within their right and it's 100% in my right to call it stupid.

I'm just going to call it like I see it. They're banning Hatred without straight up saying they're specifically banning Hatred. I should just post WHATYEARISIT.JPG because I feel like I've timewarped back to the days when people thought Grand Theft Auto turned us all into violent pyschopaths.

Edit - For the record, I don't actually give two shits about Hatred.

Wait, you didn't get turned into a violent psychopath? Must have just been me then.

I'm not sure what you're saying here. YouTube isn't Twitch.

Oh wait nevermind, Amazon bought them. Lol I keep forgetting that.

Nevermind that makes more sense.

Even then though Youtube is pretty big on copyright stuff as it is. Not sure if one is better at this point. I do hope Youtube's streaming stuff gets better though.

Absolutely ridiculous. People should be able to stream any game they want.

You are free to start your own video streaming service and show whatever you want (even then you still can't, you're still accountable to the law).

This was obviously going to happen eventually. Especially after the buyout. No corporation is going to accept all the liability and hassle of promoting an adult themed game streaming service. This also makes this simple. I'd rather have a rule I think it a bit too severe that I can understand than deal with a rule that seems more relaxed but ends up with me playing a guessing game of what the companies mood is day to day.

I didn't realize ef a tale of the two was one of the few AO games o.o I assumed a lot of VNS we're rated but digital games don't have to be I guess

I pity the horny lonely men that donate so much money just to get their name recognized by some moderately attractive girl.

Can't blame the girls, though. Such easy money.
I especially don't get why they throw money at them on twitch if you want to throw money at cam girls there are plenty of sites that let you see WAY more of the girls for the same money you're throwing at these girls on twitch.

Why can't I buy hardcore porn at Target? Fuck censorship!

Sounds like the exact opposite actually. They seem to have made a pretty clear cut off at AO games specifically so they don't have to make judgements on a game by game basis. Whether your game gets an AO rating due to violence or nudity or sex is between you and the esrb.

I think the best part of this is that actual pornographic games don't have an AO rating since none of them ever go through the ESRB (why bother when it's not compulsory and no retail outlet is going to carry your game whether you have no rating or AO rating).

This ban only effects a super tiny fraction of games.

Guess I won't be streaming any uncensored Huniepop.

(Which brings up an interesting question, not all PC games are rated by the ESRB? Obviously they're going to ban you for streaming sexual content regardless of this rule, I just find it funny it's so specific)

I seriously doubt this is about a single game. They wanted a concrete policy that let's them pretend that they're not the ones actually making the decision about what does and does not get banned.

This policy happening just a few days from Hatred's release is way too convenient for me to ignore

people countering the unhappy people with "twitch can do what they want, deal with it" are kind of missing the point. people are aware twitch can do what they want but that doesn't mean some aren't allowed to voice displeasure over it. that said many ao games are too over the top for me to care, but this rule will sadly censor streaming a few games many are interested in

also, scantily clad streamers showing much of their breasts for donations and followers are still allowed, right? even after twitch released that statement they would be cracking down on it?

So SA is banned but not Witcher 3? A game that is far more explicit in it's violence and sex? Makes sense.

they've banned other games. if this was just about hatred they could have simply banned it. they would have gotten much less flak than this whole thing is creating.

conspiracy theories may be fun but they're usually wrong.

What is so bad about Hatred that has moved them to do this?

This isn't JUST about Hatred, this is about having a specific policy on the record so when games like Hatred come up they have a general policy outlined to deal with it. It's a testament to the Hatred devs media strategy that they've somehow convinced everyone that the world is censoring their game, though.

Why even bother saying "streamers" if you're only talking about women? People of all genders have been suspended or banned for being topless and it's tricky and unreasonable for Twitch to enforce a "dress code."

I think this is Twitch banning Hatred without saying they're specifically banning Hatred. If they straight up banned one game I think they could run the risk of getting in trouble over censorship or something since other Adults Only games would be allowed. This allows Twitch to ban the game and wash their hands of any potential trouble. I don't think it's really a 'conspiracy theory' but its more just a case of reading what's clearly between the lines.

I'm eternally bemused about this struggle between M and AO. Any game falling to either one of those is almost certain to get 18+ in PEGI anyway.

in trouble with who? like the video game police are going to bust down Twitch's doors because they dont want to support a shitty game made by literal nazis?

twitch has banned games before. this is not about hatred. the game is irrelevent.

Which ones? Legitimate question, as I've apparently not heard of this happening before.

Well, The Playroom for one. Visual novels and eroge / hentai games have always been banned. A few others come to mind. But there has never been a publicly available list, and it's better for them to have a general policy available that they can work with than having everything be hidden.
