Wolverine PS5 Development is Picking Up the Pace

Can’t wait for this game.

I think Insomniac could pull it off for a Q4/23 release, especially if it has a smaller scope than the SM games.

Yep got a copy of wolverine in my collection. I m a huge xmen fan. I’ll consider upgradeing to the ps5 slim for this game.

On a side note some one mentioned a gambit game the other day. And I immediately thought day one for me but it turns out it was false.

Hope the game has a damage system on Wolverine just like that Wolverine Origins (whatever the fuck it was called) game. Be able to see him get damaged down to his adamantium bones and heal up from that.

So you are are going to be swinning with your Wolverine claws across New York city via Skyscrapers? Kk.
He’ll be ‘jumping’ of course.

But you are right, when you press the attack button you won’t punch an enemy, but instead you slash ‘m with your claws.
Totally different.

By that logic. Uncharted is the same gameplay as Spiderman. Instead of hitting them with your fist, you'll be shooting a gun by pressing X.

If Wolverine is same gameplay as Spiderman, then why call it Wolverine and not Spiderman 3? Let me guess, God of War 2018 is same gameplay as Mass Effect 2. Both are 3rd person camera, press X to hit/kill things. Except in God of War it's all melee and in Mass Effect you shoot your rifle.

Thank you for letting me see the truth that every video game has the same gameplay. I will never look at gameplay the same way again thanks to you!. You are a true savior!

Now you’re getting it.

What I was getting at: it probably won’t be a totally unique game design as it will take most of the stuff they can copy from their already popular superhero game into their new one.

- open world structure with main story and side missions (icons on a map with repeating activities, you know the drill)
- combat that is the same as Batman/Spider-Man/Assassins Creed/Shadow of Mordor/etc/etc
- some traversal mechanic akin to swinging through a city (but now it will be jumping from tree to tree or something)

If you think a big AAA project sporting a well known IP like this is going for some never seen before gameplay, then you’ll be disappointed.

I don't think anyone is expecting any kind of never before seen gameplay. But to say Wolverine gameplay is going to be near identical to Spiderman is just silly.

Besides, didn't they confirm that the game is more linear and not open world for one? Second, Batman, Assassins Creed and Shadow of Modor are nowhere near the same gameplay combat wise other than the third person camera.

I don't remember seeing Wolverine jumping from tree to tree in the recent movies either. If anything, his a fast melee fighter that decapitates his foes. Which is the completely polar opposite of Spiderman style of combat.

If the combat is so identical between the three franchises you even mentioned then why do they continue to co-exist when they are same according to you? Lol.

This game has to be graphic as hell. Otherwise, it's a disservice to the character.
Weren't they specifically looking for a dev or devs that specialised in gory dismemberment not too long ago?

I would bet they are well aware what the expectations are. No one is expecting PG/M rated outing.

This should be like the game version of Deadpool. It's gotta be dark.

You know this is Insomniac we're talking about right? They're arguably the most efficient AAA devs next to From, but I would rank them a tad higher based on polish and engine performance/tech alone.

Spiderman - Sept 7th 2018
Spiderman 2 - Oct 20th 2023

Miles Morales - November 2020
Wolverine - ???

The Miles Morales team is making Wolverine. I wouldn't expect it before 2025 at the earliest. Insomniac feels particularly efficient because they have 3 internal studios and they've made very formulaic games over the last 5 years.

The current rumours are late 2024:

Insomniac are no regulars devs, their wiki shows 9 games having been released since 2018.

Yes, same boat. Also, the 3rd team isn't working on Wolverine; they are working on a new multiplayer IP.

So Wolverine would have gone into full production in early 2021. 2025 is the bare minimum with a 4 or 4.5-year development time.

2025 is possible, but Wolverine wasn't laying dormant this whole time either. Key people just moved over to assist with the project that was still in development alongside Spider-Man 2.

I bet they want to time this with Deadpool 3 featuring Wolverine. I guess we'll see.

Yawn.....i'm glad for those who can't get enough of super hero games, but it would be nice if Insomniac would make more non-comic book games.

Like what? Yet another Ratchet and Clank? Sucking the FPS sausage again with Resistance?

I'll take Wolverine, thanks.

Oh i don't know.....maybe a new IP? They've only been around forever now and have proven their abilities both technically and contentwise. They don't need to be a studio that relies on boring ass comic games.

I don't trust this. Insomniac is too safe and woke to make a brutal wolverine game.
I would prefer new non comic game anyway

Wolverine in development sounds right, I don’t think the character gets the respect it deserves.

Since when does "woke" negate violence? If anything, it's a proponent of it more often than not.

They already announced there will be slashes, blood and dismemberment. I am betting they're inspired by the last Wolverine game which was brutal.

They don't need it, but there's nothing wrong with it. Another new IP from them sounds like "insert sci-fi/fantasy/dystopia trope".

Is this news positive for the prospects of 2024 launch or negative????? Can't shake the feeling that bringing on an animator at this juncture means we are probably looking at 2025. But damn do I hope that gut feeling is wrong. This one is my most anticipated game after Spidey 2.

It's going to be a gen ender, guaranteed at this point.
Development started shortly before Miles Morales came out in 2020, so Wolverine its been in development for three years now, and according to Grubb, their target (as of February this year) was late 2024/early 2025.

Mid-gen title.
