Either the #thirst is still strong or Titanfall underperformed. Either way damn.

I really think PC played a HUGE role in this. PC gaming is thriving more than i can even remember...even back in my glory days of PC gaming in the very late 90s and early 2000s ...PC gaming is back and back with a vengence!

MS should of waited on the PC release with the 360 release...i find it strange why they would think that olding back the 360 version instead of the PC version would do them better with selling X1's...in my opinion...the other way around. I know a LOT of console gamers these days that didnt know a thing about PC gaming that are now gaming on PC's ..im talking thugs, dealers,etc..people you would not think of getting into PC gaming...i usually dont like to stereotype people like that but this is what i mean that PC gaming is becoming very popular again.

I think another reason of all this is that 10 or 15 years ago...PC's were becoming a super standard in schools...and now those folks that were schoolled with computers during their education...are grown ups now in their 20's,etc and are now more familiar with PC's than ever before....this is kinda like the baby boom era...same kind of effect but with PC gaming lol....Im on some hardcore pain meds (Oxy) right now..just had two root canals so forgive me if im spitting out useless dribble lol

And since we don't have any Nintendo PR, I thought I'd celebrate with some depressing news.

Highest selling Wii U game:

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze - 84K

Is that what it sold in March? That's actually a pretty small drop from February.

If that's the retail total up to this point, then yikes.

Also I hope 2K and Pitchford are looking at those MGS sales and facepalming. PS360 software sales drying up is the best thing out of the last couple NPD threads.

The question now is how low will the Xbox go. If there is no price drop for the next few months I could see the Wii U and Xbox having a good battle in June as MK8 comes out at the end of May if I'm not mistaken.

How many commercials have you seen where they end with "now $450" or whatever? I haven't seen one. You have to be on top of it to find one that cheap and they only appear at different retailers at different times.

I'm guessing they are testing the waters and seeming how far they have to drop the price before starting a full on marketing blitz after E3.

They aren't doing so hot now, but they'll get it turned around.

I picture tears being fought back while this response was being composed.

So there is, Nintendo numbers... I honestly expect lower for Wii U considering it didn't have any retail release on March. Mario Kart 8 can't come soon enough, 1 month 2 weeks to go. 3DS on the other hand, it was expected BUT i'm sure it would recover starting on May with Kirby, Mario Golf, Tomodachi and SMASH. 3DS already has a good looking summer season.

"playing" dumb? unpossible
What honest to goodness "system seller" has Playstation had since GTA3/VC/SA?

Sony doesn't win with "silver bullet" huge exclusive system sellers. They win by having a bunch of great games that all sell fairly well and their combined total of games across all genres produces a compelling library.

I assume public perception of the XBone is rapidly declining. The aggressive price drops alone are enough to do that. Pair it with declining sales in spite of enormous marketing and that's a lock. As a consequence I expect two things to happen as a result of this. Microsoft is going to increasingly try to associate themselves with Sony. They've already been doing this by increasing using of stuff like first person plural in an increasing number of PR type releases. And Sony is going to do the exact opposite - try to turn the XBone into a leper, kind of like what happened with the Wii U.

And internally I doubt Sony is happy. They're beating the XBone but success isn't about beating crippled competition. A big issue facing them right now is that their supply has finally met demand, but at the same time demand seems to have taken a nose dive. April and onward is where the holiday hype has finally completely died off and we start to see "real" numbers. If something doesn't change I think that could translate to 1xx,xxx figures for April.

Where are you getting that from? March NPD is much higher than February, and the PS4 sold 1M+ units in around 35 days, from March 3rd to April 6th. Throw in the fact that much of Europe is still dry as a desert in regards to PS4 supply, and that even in the US stores aren't swimming in PS4 consoles. What are you talking about?

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
Kind of a silly question/thought experiment:

How much do you guys think being in the "cultural center" of TV and pop culture in general matters for sales, in terms of videogames?

As a silly and not too representative example, what exactly does Conan adopting the PS4 for the latest Clueless Gamer segment actually mean, for example?

What about demoing, previewing, and reviewing most games on the PS4?

Is this an actual reflection of being the market leader, or does it feed back into larger sales by itself?

That's a segment you can buy, so its Sony having confidence the audience is there to spend the money to get Conan, an influencer, to do an integration. Most likely.

And since we don't have any Nintendo PR, I thought I'd celebrate with some depressing news.

Highest selling Wii U game this month:

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze - 84K

The Wii U has had what, four and a half different major 2D platformers now? Not exactly surprising that consumers are a bit burned out on the genre at the moment.

wait a sec, so Wii U>PS3?
hold that, NOBODY is getting unit points for predictions lmao

What? That's impossible.
The PS3 and 360 are going to continue to sell at the same rate as before for the next 3 years, and eventually break 100 million each.

(Yea, people have argued this.)

Dayum, Vita seems gigaded. This is what happens when you stop marketing a platform altogether. I feel Sony stopped caring after Killzone came out.

Didn't Killzone come out on Vita about seven months ago? Sure, new games were recently announced in droves, but that was only very recently, and very few are first party from what I can tell.

I DO WANT to see a one console generation like PS1/PS2, that would save the developers a lot of developing costs.

That is a very bad idea.
Never wish this, in any industry. For too many reasons for me to get into this late. But that is a super short sighted way to look at it, say goodbye to innovation and hello to price fixing, eventually declining sales due to stagnation, and as lot more sequels.

So I heard you guys need PS3 sales.

Since it's really late out, I guess I'll oblige and fill in the gaps. ;-)

BUT WAIT! I can't just give you the raw numbers! I have to be a bit tricky.

Luckily, with these percentages, you should be able to pinpoint the exact numbers. ;-)

March 2014:

PS3:
-68% from last year
-35% from last month

Wii U:
+3% from last year
-14% from last month

This should be enough to complete the NPD prediction spectrum. Enjoy, guys. ;-)

So what's the total for dk now?

These threads are great. I don't have enough knowledge to add to the discussion but I love reading it.

Well deserved, Sony. You gave us a good gaming machine.

As for xbox (still love my original xbox and 360): the only reason i would be willing to consider it would be a beefed-up Xbox with a great GPU and all out first party output other than HALO/Gears/Forza/Fable.

In other words: will never happen!

Same. It's not like i hated the PS1/PS2 generation, but i don't really think that 1 console generation will do the current gaming industry any good. Developers are already struggling on multiple platforms as it is.

lol at Wii U > PS3. Sony really needs to pricecut that thing if they want anything resembling sales

Also do people think that XB1 has been selling more or less of its WW sales in US relative to what the percentage was in November and December? Because if US sales of XB1 are still about 60% of WW LTD for it, that's fairly interesting. If it's greater than 60% well it starts to get pretty worrisome

So I'll try my hand at estimating XB1 WW LTD based on previously released numbers thus will rely on some terrible assumptions I'm afraid

Xbox One: over 3 million sold to consumers in 2013

XB1 US LTD in 2013 = 909,132 [Nov. NPD] + 908,000 [Dec. NPD] = 1,817,132 units sold

1817/3000 = 0.6057 -> XB1 US sales for 2013 accounted for 60.57% of its WW sales

Thus with the new XB1 US LTD = 2,527,132

2527*(1/.6057) = 4172.26 -> Thus XB1 US LTD suggests XB1 WW LTD of 4,172,260

*Note I strongly feel that the XB1 sold better at launch in the rest of the world than it is currently doing since the last official WW sell-through number was given hence it is likely more than 60.57% of XB1 WW LTD sales are in the US

For instance if that number was now 65% [Less than 4% more than launch ratios], XB1 WW LTD would be 2527*(1/.65) = 3887.69 -> XB1 WW LTD of 3,887,690

I seriously think there's a decent chance XB1 WW LTD could be under 4M right now which is crazy

It's exactly that, it has been a promotion up to this point, nothing really official, like an official price cut, Major said it himself. They are definitely testing the waters with the Xbox One around $450 without a game and with a game packed in.

but if everyone's on one platform you'll get third-parties competing against each other and that's where innovation will come from...!

Because no one cares about the X1 beside NA/UK. Even with TF packed inside it.

It is basically like going to your house, and your mom tells you to get the eff out, and your adopted brother is better than you.
Where do you go now? Your neighbor's house?
Your aunt can take you in, but her favorite will always be her son and not you =(.

Now I feel bad for the X1...please someone let him
inside the house. It has TF after all.
The WiiU can stay outside though.

I'm sorry but this analogy was just too funny. Bravo....:)

Hmm, 360 should outsell Wii then given the gap is "only" about 300K and the monthly difference is around ~60K now.

Meh. Each PS3 sale right now is profit. And each PS3 sale now has relatively minimal impact on overall PS3 software. 67K at profit is better than 100K at loss, etc.

I suppose but PS3 software sales will only continue to decline as new buyers move onto the newer platform

Personally I somewhat expect a new PS3 sku based on the smaller Cell die at E3 this year, hopefully reasonably priced

That's why there's little point in trying to drive PS3 installed base anymore; it's an exercise in futility.
