Star Citizen Pre-Alpha: Hangar Module

That is an amazing design.

The production work is fantastic, but I'm not a fan of the design itself. Mainly, the main thruster scissors are absolutely ridiculous and I can't help but link it back to bad anime mech shows. The pustules on the neck also do not flow with the aegis design aesthetic, and if those are the escape pods they're both vulnerable and don't match up with the established look of aegis escape pods.

Those "pustules" arent escape pods. They are the shield generator points as they said in the video.

I really do not have a problem with the scissor engines. I think a bit of variety in the space ship design in terms of unique functionality (for example, how the banu ships apparently fly) is not a bad thing.

Sorry a little confused but could someone clarify something for me.

If I purchase the $30 pledge package I'll be able to download and access the Hanger module. That is the one that is listed as no alpha or beta access. In order to access the Arena module via the pass I can not do that with this package or can I?

Or do I need to have the $40 pledge package instead that has beta access in order to access future modules via the passes?

You need to buy the $5 Arena Commander pass no matter which package you buy. Alpha access is no longer being sold, and beta access will allow you to play upcoming modules advertised as part of the beta, but it isn't necessary to access AC.

Gotcha. Thanks.

There hasn't been any word on what will be apart of the beta has there?

Oh, I don't know, producers have a way of helping ensure things are produced. With all the concern of scope creep and the outsourced teams, I expect that someone with that kind of experience will help ensure we see a finished product sometime this decade.

He is a big deal. Lead producer on Diablo 3 and senior producer on many WoW titles. 2 of the biggest franchises in all of gaming. Longtime veteran of a top 3 development house.

And both completely casual games that have nothing to do with space sim or even sandbox genres.

If they hired the doctor of economy from CCP than i would call it big deal.

Ps. I dont think he is useless or bad, or wont help in anyway, but he is definitely not a big deal imho.

Then why did he leave?

Chris Roberts recruited him.

http://www.pcgamesn.com/diablo/diab...d-behind-star-citizen-i-knew-i-had-be-part-it

“After ten years at Blizzard, I didn’t think that there was anything that could ever get me to leave,” said Mayberry in a statement.

But then Roberts invited Mayberry to come and see what’s so far been built for Star Citizen. And that was enough.

“After seeing the game and listening to Chris talk about his vision, I knew that I had to be a part of it,” explained Mayberry. “Star Citizen is bold and ambitious, with a unique and innovative approach to game development.

SC has many persistent online features similar to an MMO. Having someone that can bring a $100M+ budget game to the finish line in polished and working condition is more important than a "doctor of economy." Chris Roberts clearly needed help on the senior management side of things now that the original scope has exploded.

D3 launch was a mess and game was a mess for months and still is in some degree.
Chris Roberts managed projects bigger than SC already in the Hollywood.
'Doctor of economy' is more important, if You dont believe me, read any dev blog or watch presentation from EVE fanfest. Managing sandbox economy is very hard task.

Wait what?

"Today is the fourth to the last episode of Wingman's Hangar. There will be a new community oriented show starting June 11th, where we'll break the 'Inside CIG' pieces out and put those on Friday in place of The Next Great Starship as that ends. The new show will be based out of our headquarters in Los Angeles, where Chris is located. All of our community, marketing and video production have been consolidated at HQ. I'll be part of the new programming, reporting from Austin on the studio developments from here. I'm proud of Wingman's Hangar, we set a very high standard [laughs]. There'll be more details in the coming weeks and we plan to go out with quite a bang, so stay tuned." - Eric 'Wingman' Peterson

I guess the lame community ambassador has to do something. Oh well.

The show is to be replaced in 3 episodes with something else on wednesdays. It will not be broadcast from the Austin office.

:(

I really like wingmn's hangar. Its informal nature and personalities are just fun.

Damn :( I mean, Wingman's Hangar has become a little bit less charming than in the beginning ("always great to see" "really, really cool") but it was still pretty nice. Also it's kinda surprising because they just build out a new location as a studio two (?) weeks ago.
But well, maybe the new show will be fine, too.

I guess the plan is to do a California-produced community show on Wednesdays, and release studio report videos (I don't think it's a new show, but I may be wrong) on Fridays. The switch happens once The Next Great Starship ends.

Oh, and Michael Morlan (the guy who's been behind the camera of Wingman's Hangar since December 2012) is being let go. Peterson said on Wingman's Hangover that he's been "made redundant" and is going back into freelancing. I think that's the part I like the least ... he's a cool guy, he feels like part of the original team, and I wish they could have kept him to do studio reports in Austin or something.

That studio is their motion capture studio. So it's going to be used, just not to record Wingman's Hangar.

Oh wow, that's terrible. I really liked him. Makes sense, I guess, since he was brought on for WH.

Still no DFM? Just once I want a gaming company to hit a deadline, under promise, and over deliver.

Latest info we have is that they'll release a rollout schedule today. The rollout will begin sometime next week and proceed over the next couple weeks. Pledgers will gain access to the DFM in order of citizen number. (Find your citizen number by going to https://robertsspaceindustries.com, mousing over "MY RSI" in the upper-right corner and, when you're logged in, clicking on your profile picture. It'll take you to a page that says "Uee Citizen Record #XXXXX" near the top.)

I'm half inclined to say that a new thread should be made when that schedule gets posted, since that's actual news that affects quite a few GAFfers who may not be checking this thread regularly.

I thought only the multiplayer part of the DFM would have to deal with that aspect.

I hope the fact we always end up seeing hornets when we see DFM footage, isn't a sign they are also late on that aspect of the DFM development. But I hardly expect to have a good surprise on that aspect.

Ah, you're right. Everyone gets the DFM at first, basically, but only the chosen few get to play online multiplayer at first. Everyone else will get the Vanduul Swarm ("horde") mode until it's their turn to get online multiplayer.

The poor servers.

As for seeing other ships, yeah, they're probably racing to the finish line on the Aurora and 300i to get them completely ready. I think they'll be in, though. Might not be able to play them unless you own one — I think the default for all backers is the Hornet in DFM.

I am wondering if you'll be able to play the Hornet if you own a 300i or an Aurora. Would be kinda unfair if you didn't.

You get the ship that is roughly equivalently priced to the ship that you own.

If you only own an Aurora, you simply get the Aurora. If you own a 350r, you'd likely get the 300i. If you own a Constellation, I'd assume you would get the Hornet.

However, in Chat roll Ben said they will be selling the Test Pilot badges to everyone (previously were supposed to only be given to subscribers). These badges let you fly any ship you want for 24 hours.

Also, Avenger is coming shortly after release (Ben said it would be in something like DFM 1.1). As an Avenger owner, this pleases me. :D

Oh, the bolded is new information to me. That's nice. Hopefully it's only a dollar or two.

I'm glad the Avenger will be in soon, too. My hangar has one sitting next to my Aurora and Hornet. =)

I second this idea. MrBig pls.

You're welcome post a thread about the news post, but I'll hold off on the OT, which will go up when at least the single player portion is live.

Yeah, I can make a basic new thread about the new news. No need to go crazy with a fancy OT over just the announcement of the rollout schedule.

I'm sure it's been asked dozens of times but this thread is huge and there's a lot to go through. Is it too late to pledge and get access to the full game/various modules and if not what is the cheapest way to do so? Thanks!

It's not too late. I think the cheapest package now is the $40 Aurora, which gives you a copy of both parts of the game (Squadron 42 and Star Citizen) and beta access. You'll have to tack on an Arena Commander pass for $5 to get alpha access, though, which is the dogfighting module that comes out in two weeks.
