Was Child of Light a success?

Kodiak

Not an asshole.
I love Child of Light and Rayman Legends, and really want smaller Ubi Art titles to continue to be a thing. The upcoming one about WWI looks great.

Has anything been said about the sales or success of the game? It seemed to take off a bit among YT streamers and the like.

I'm guessing with the announcement of a Physical and Digital Vita release in multiple territories that it was a success for Ubi.

If it wasn't then they'd just let it die a quiet and slow death.

Ubisoft deserves a lot of credit here, I love the idea of taking the engine for bigger games, and spreading the cost it took to make them over smaller DD games.

UbiArt being used for Child of Light and Valiant Hearts, and the Far Cry 3 engine being used for Blood Dragon. I want them to do this more, and I want more publishers to start.

I think you mean light at the end of the tunnel.

I have yet to finish the game, does the story leave room for a sequel? No spoiler please, yes or no will suffice. Thanks.

Ehhhhh not really. You could tell a new story in the same world, though.

I'm having more fun than I expected with it.

I don't even mind it not being cross-buy (I'd buy it again), but it's too bad it doesn't support cross-save.

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
it's doing well from what I hear. if it keeps selling at a nice pace, everyone should be relatively happy. ps4 doing better than expected, the rest okay to meh

I was disappointed, it didn't seem to connect to Child of Eden at all.. BOOM

Although I also didn't like it very much. Literally didn't die once, or have to think. If they do another one, I hope they don't tune the difficulty to the skill-set of protozoa.

Wonder if the U's version qualifies as "okay"? Considering Rayman Legends sold well there (...relative to the other platforms and their install bases, at least).

I decided to go with Transistor instead (limited budget so I had to choose one). I am not regretting my purchase at all. Transistor is amazing. However, I envy those playing Child Of Light. I think in terms of success. We will find out in those top PSN lists. Digital game sales are released by the company itself. I just think it is safe to bet Ubisoft will say something post E3 or during E3.

You don't need to be empathetic towards me.
Should I buy this for PS4? The battles system seemed boring and repetitive in the reviews I watched.

It looks absolutely stunning, but I don't find it very fun, to be honest.

It's still worth the purchase, if only to support UbiArt Engine games, though.

Yup. Now take AC or Watch Dogs' assets and engine, and give me a completely original game based on neither IP. I'll give them up to 60 bucks depending on quality, but without any regard for its budget, graphics, setpieces, or anything of the sort.

Gen X

Trust no one. Eat steaks.
I love how the retail version is both PS3 & PS4 on the same disc, very cool feature for the consumer.

It was high up on the Steam best sellers chart for a while and was the 3rd best selling PS4 game on the PSN for the month of April so I'm guessing they're considering it a success.

I hope Ubi Art games flops SO HARD that ubisoft consider make it open source like Ancel wanted =P

I hope so. My favorite non-FF RPG released this year. More mainstream RPGs of this ilk would be so welcome.

It helps that the difficulty settings actually allow the game to be easy for a family to enjoy and hard enough for a hard-core player to enjoy as well.

hope the U version is the okay one, I thought this was a title that would favor nintendo's audience, but the PS4 got a bunch of stuff that would put more eyeson it.

I hope it does well! I wouldn't want a sequel, or rather a continuation of Aurora's story. I wouldn't mind more adventures in Lemnuria though. Perhaps a Child of Dark/Fire/Ice/Wind/Water/etc of similar natures. Actually, I really wouldn't mind a "Child of Dark" playing as
Umbra
and her rise to power. That'd be pretty killer. So I guess a prequel could work.

I wish they released a disc-based copy of this game for PS4. I know they have a PSN code based copy out there, but having it on disc would be more convenient and would save on HDD space.

It's entered Media Create Sales top 20 chart on its release week, so I think it's safe to say as success at least sales-wise.

I hope it did. It may send the message out that these kinds of games may be profitable if made on a small scale.

Nah that's not a sign really. Even if it wasn't that big of a success, they'd still likely want to get all out of the potential sales, since porting generally isn't that expensive.

Define "success"
Success in sales obviously. Meaning, if Ubi considers it a success.
