Wolfenstein: The New Order |OT| They put Nazis on the Moon, Scheiß auf den Mond!

Finished the Wyatt timeline. Pretty awesome experience.

There were several plot points that were not brought to any kind of conclusion:
Mouldy Super Concrete, the secret Jewish mystic/science order, Frau Engel, etc.
I hope they address some of this in the story DLC.

While I liked the style of the narrative quite a bit I wish they change it up for a sequel.
The "make it up as we go along"-Kreisau Circle, the choppy location and time changes, the revenge plot and the general "Inglorious Bastards" tonality were all quite nice but a bit fragmented. You only start to see an end goal forming when you steal the Uboot at the end of chapter 11. The narrative feels like a wild ride but in the end, it gave off a vibe that you didn't really make a dent into the 1960 Nazi regime and it was all about personal atonement.
The infrastructure and world-wide nature of the regime just seemed too vast to topple with what actions the Kreisau Circle took during the narrative. You even see the Nazis rebuild the bombed out London Nautica when you crash down on it a couple missions later!

For a sequel I hope they will go with more of a grand end goal and common thread through the whole narrative.
Something like: Find and infiltrate the whereabouts of the Führer and assassinate him. The Führer was weirdly absent in THE NEW ORDER, maybe that is a hint of things to come?
So why not duke it out with a robo version of Hitler inside the grand People's Hall in the center of Germania? Seeing the hall when you first enter Berlin, I thought that was forshadowing but sadly it was not used.

Just finished this and I will say it's really good.I usually Newbery finish shooters like this but the story was really good and I really liked the old school feel to it. I especially liked the boss fights.they felt big and epic like they should. If your looking for something to play on ps4 I recommend it

Just found the Nightmare easter egg and what a smile that put on my face!

I haven't had this much fun with a FPS for many years. It's sublime and ridiculously underrated by the critics. It'll take some beating as GOTY for me. And I've not finished it yet!

Wasn't the super concrete basically just
Set Roth sabotaging the concrete invention of his?
I'll agree it wasn't very clear.

The utter failure of so many critics to recognize how brilliant this game is still surprises me. I mean, it's still an id game and it's still backed by Bethesda. You'd think they could afford to butter up a few journalists.

Shit, it's not like it's some janky mid-tier release. The art design and location variety is first rate. I just got to Chapter 13 and the whole alternate 60s Nazi
sci-fi
thing is ridiculously impressive.

It's it worth it to play through the other timeline? I occurred through the wyatt timeline. Are they any major differences in the other one

Only minor difference. The biggest change is a character in the hideout. The "choice" hideout character in each path has an extended hidden cutscene. Othewise you're swapping health and armor pickups and tiny little changes involving lockpicking and hotwiring.

When you collect them you can go to to main menu, into collectibles>engima section where you can solve puzzles and unlock 3 special game modes. All those unlocks also give you one trophy.
That's not what he asked and I quite interested in this too.

I tried to solve it by myself, but didn't get it and decided to look for the codes on the Internet after all.

But I guess it is solvable - there are clues in many levels, on the blackboards. I didn't get the whole algorithm though, but not that I really tried to figure it out, honestly.

Reviewers are still caught up in the new console launch and have a very skewed set of expectations right now, especially with E3 hot on the heels of Wolf's launch. They're looking for that elusive, but ultimately unquantifiable, "next-gen gameplay".

love that this is getting such a great reception. Good to have a game on the bench waiting for me. I'm waiting for a price drop, but after that I'll go for it.

Chapter 14 on uber...shit just got real mode activated. Seriously, that first room is borderline impossible. I've figured out how to snipe the general before he calls for backup, but 3-5 troops suddenly rush you, with two armored shotgunners there in the same room, AND some snipers above you. I can run behind a couch and grab an assault rifle, but by then, one armored bastard is literally two feet away from me, that I simply don't have time to switch to the rocket assault sidearm. Add on to the fact that restarting the checkpoint actually sets you BACK, in terms of health and ammo, the entire section is bullshit. How did the game become so fucking hard in literally 10 seconds? What the hell happened?

Edit: Passed the little section. The key is, in the intro, don't shoot shit, move away from the center of the ship, go prone. After the cutscene, just snipe away everyone, take out the lkw and shoot off the rest, use the apt fire from the AR Marksman to take out the shotgunner, pick up the shotgun and kill off whoever is left. The restart in this one specific part is just terrible. If anybody is reading this, protip: just restart the chapter

beat it, it was ok.

The intro and my first impressions were really bad though, that tutorial level or whatever was garbage, The game really gets good about half way through.

The guns are all good but could use much larger clips really. energy weapons in particular. I want to keep firing for a longer time not cover and reload constantly.

perk unlocking was cool. solid shooting and feedback. AI actually does flank and overwhelm you. Blazco talking to himself was rad. I haven't played 2009 wolf, looks like it was necessary for story a bit

I must say I had almost forgotten how sp fps games used to be and this was good for that but it's no where as good as something like Escape from Butcher Bay or similar. It gets a bit repetitive, the final boss was a bit shit, stealth sucks, that little hub fetch quests a waste of time. iD tech 5 and texture pop in can die in a fire too. I could use more ammo around too.

I kinda wish the game progress was continuous rather than separated by levels and jumps in between, say like half life 2 or riddick.

7ish out of 10 worth a play through or two. Solid rental etc etc.

Seriously. If 343, Bungie or Irrational put this out, it'd be getting GOTY talk.

Nah, I like it as it. The problem with most shooters is there's no break in the action to even attempt character development. I'm liking the pacing so far and it's not repetitive thru 9 chapters IMO

I'm playing on Uber and have hit a bit of a brick wall on Chapter 11
U-Boat
.

There's a section (I'm hoping it's near the end of the Chapter) where
you cut through a grate and then drop down into some sort of control room, and all hell breaks loose. There's one shotgun guy in the first wave, and then another in the second wave. With all of the other infantry in support, I just don't have enough firepower to take the second shotgun guy down without getting smoked. My current tactic is to rush the room and use my only grenade on the first shotgun guy, then head back to cover near the start and pick the other infantry off with assault rifles. But the second shotgun guy gets me no matter what I do.

Any tips or tactics here? I'm hoping I won't have to replay the entire chapter again in order to save a few grenades.

No one wants a throne you've been sitting on!
The ending was a bit lackluster personally. Not to with how good antagonists they created I felt no satisfaction from dealing with them. So that brought the overall experience down also. :/

Devs if you are going to make good antagonists whos sole purpose is for the player to hate, be sure we get to do something satisfying to them scripted or not. Id prefer non scripted as its far more amusing than press X to win type of situations.

I went through the door on the left, took out a few guys including the shotgunner then ran up the stairs where there's an armour bonus sitting there. Once you're on the top level things get easier. It might still take you a few tries though.

That's a really good tip, cheers I'll give that a go.

Damn, so I guess my 670 gtx won't cut it, either? :(

I played this one on my more modest htpc (i5 2600k stock, 2x7850s) and it was fine even with everything cranked all the way up except that texture loads number at 1080p. It was fine, and extremely smooth for the most part

Completed this a couple of days ago. For my first play-through, I just said screw it and decided to go with Über difficulty. It was actually pretty manageable for the most part, except for the final boss, which probably took me roughly 50 times to finally beat.

A great game, for sure. There were a few loose-ends that weren't entirely cleared up though, unless I missed something, and the ending was pretty abrupt. However, the zany story, gameplay sandbox, and rather open nature of the level design all proved to be highly entertaining for me. I also enjoyed the downtime between missions as well, from a pacing perspective.

Hey I just got this game.

I want to play through it and get the most from it...any advice?

What difficulty is advised aka the most fun. Is trying to find all collectables fun and worth it? Something I can do in first play through?

My goal is to squeeze everything I can get out of it in one grande run.

Unless you are worried about trophies and such, I wouldn't worry about collecting stuff. You can unlock other game modes but I think they are kind of throwaway, to be honest.

I found Uber to be a good challenge, but I was also playing it for the trophy. You could probably have a fun run with the next one down (Death Incarnate?) If you want the Uber trophy, it only requires re-doing the last level anyways.

Otherwise, there's not a lot to think about. Explore around, try out different weapons. The early game choice doesn't really matter.

Ok thanks. Sounds like death incarnate would be fine as I don't need to prove my metal and I'll just collect what I find fun looking for.

Thanks

WTF at that one section on the UBoat

Where you drop from the ceiling right into a fight with no chance to stealth anyone first
Very hard

Beat this on Uber yesterday. Killing Deathshead in the final section was very hard, had to re-do the end section again so I could overcharge a lot before dropping down the hole. But I did beat him in the end, even if I died a lot.

Really enjoyed this game. The shooting was satisfying, I liked the characters (was worried I wouldn't like Blazco) and it looked beautiful in some sections (loved the lunar outdoors). My only disapointment was the ending. I was expecting at least a post-credits scene, as it is I have no idea if he died or not.

What's even weirder is that right at the end of the credits you can hear the helicopter sound increasing which made me think we would get something, but the sequence just ends and goes back to the main menu.

Still, great game. After Butcher's Bay and The Darkness I knew I could trust these guys to make a game I'd like.

Sleepy Buddha, there is a rumor that Machien Games will create one story DLC. Quakecon is the only reasonable place where they will unveil it if the rumor is true.

Dont forget, Frau Engel lives. She wowed revenge when BJ killed her Bobi before final bossfight.

Ok, the ending flat-out sucked, and frankly the best thing about the game was the alternate history setting and the melancholic atmosphere that came with it. But gameplay was nothing to write home about, and worse, the level design was overflowing with boring corridors which I loathe. Hell even the moon level was kinda boring.
So from me, 6 out of 10,decent game, never want to play it again.

Hope that happens, wouldn't mind having a go at that psychopath. And some closure would be nice, I don't think there's much of a chance we'll get a sequel.

For me, game got good closure.
BJ was ready to die, he knew that he is not part of this future and that ordinary life is not for him. He was too much damaged. Same was shown in opening cinematic... him sleeping in a yard, children playing, food cooking, wife beside him... "Not for me".

But if they continue the story with DLC, I will be more than happy to play it.

edit - there was a good bit on Wolfenstein in latest John and Garnett podcast

This is gonna sound weird, but what screwed it for me was
that damn helicopter sound at the end of the credits
. When the credits started rolling I also saw it like you and felt like it had closure, but that damn sound threw me off.

Heh, I did not hear that. If I'm not mistaken, my headphones were not on my ears during second part of the credits (I mostly play PS4 games with headphones plugged into DS4).

But... even with that
]helicopter sound, I think the ending is good. He has made his choice, but if anyone is master in giving characters place to grow and change... that Machine Games [ex Starbreeze].

Beat it the other day, very good game.

So ya, they definitely will make some DLC about Frau Engel since she walked away from the computer screen pretty pissed when we last saw her, then didn't hear or see her after that. Once I beat the game it just clicked that she was absent from the very end, so I could see either DLC or a sequel in the works just based off of that. DLC seems much more plausible since I don't think they would leave her fate up in the air if this game tanekd and they couldn't make a sequel.

Regarding the ending:

I waited until after credits to see if there would be anything, and it was just a flash of light with the helicopter sound. Do you think the helicopter picked BJ up? Any other thoughts on what that might be?

I'f you're still stuck remember to look left. There is a room with armor and, if I remember correctly, ammo. The room is open on the other side so you can try to stealth.

Awesome game so far. Have it on xbox one. Quick question regarding unlocking stuff. Once you beat the game, if you play again do you keep your unlocks from your previous perk tree, or do you have to start all over?. The only tree that's not fully unlocked yet is the grenade tree. I'm near the Uboat section.

Yeah you keep everything, just use chapter select.

You can keep loading the same checkpoint and doing the tasks, then restart checkpoint, rinse, repeat until all unlocked.

I just started playing this game and it's really good so far.

One question though - what's up with the audio balance? Some sound effects are really low, like dialogue and certain guns, and then there's sudden action sequences that are really loud. I don't know how to adjust my volume.

I'm playing with the Astro A40's + MixAmp and I've tried several settings. I've also tried with the TV speakers and it sounds about the same.

Should I check/uncheck some settings in the PS4 sound menus?

Does anyone know if the Ps4 uber trophy can be unlocked via completing each level on uber? Ie not restarting the whole game and losing all perks. I'm half way through my Fergus playthrough on death incarnate and don't want to have to re do everything again...

In the XB1 version at least (I'd imagine the PS4 version might be the same), all you need to do is replay the last mission via chapter select after resetting the difficulty and you get the achievements.

Ok, so I'm enjoying the game so far. I'm like two hours in.

Will there be longer shooting parts later on in the game? When things start to get fun they often end too fast with a cutscene and transition to a new area. I really want some larger areas with lots of mayhem where I can go bananas with dual wield. :)
