Is ncr really this weekend? If so, what is up with the promotion of these events? I wouldn't have know had I not been involved in this thread.

Yeah IGT 2015 is taking place in Korea this weekend as well and there is no trailer etc., just a facebook page.

Of course not. What parts did you get in the end? 1.7k is a far cry from your original mid-range plan.

It was the original, or at least very close to it. BTW 1.7k includes a new monitor, keyboark and mouse, so hardware costed ~ 1.5k

i5-4690
GeForce GTX970
MB Gigabyte GA-H97M-Gaming 3
2 4GB DDR3 Kingstom MC's

Like I said before, it doesn't cost that much in America, here (Brazil) shit's hella expansive

Oh, I see. I usually don't factor in the cost of monitors, KB&M. Only major change is that you humped from a 960 to a 970. Though why did you get only 8 GB? 16 wouldn't have cost much more and would have benefited you.

Yeah, promotion of the usual events seems muted but maybe that's just here?

man, fgc events really need to step their promotion game up. it's easy to say that fg is a niche genre so fgc events will have relatively low viewership count in comparison with 'esports' events but most of the time they've forgotten to point out how poor the organisers market their events to the public. just look at the sxsw and redbull invitationals. both events barely made 25k viewers even though most of the 'superstars' in the fgc were present.

I couldn't spend more than 1.7k :lol

And I'm not worried about it, honestly. Memory isn't something like a MB or a CPU, that you have to buy a whole new one to upgrade your hardware. I can just buy 2 4GB memory cards when I feel I need more

I need a gaming PC by the time SF5 comes out

aint tryna spend 1.7k tho

I don't think SF5's reqs will be all that high- but it will require Vista at a minimum for OS. I suspect XP will not be supported, as the game is PS4-only on console.

My guess: Vista at a minimum, and at least 4GB of RAM at a minimum.

Very few games right now use a ton of RAM, that's gonna change once 64-bit PC gaming takes off. GalCiv3 can be a huge hog for example (some of that is that it's EA and optimization is one of their later priorities)

The lack of promotion/hype will be the downfall of these events. If you don't hear about it on at least the gaming side or press, I imagine it will become an even more niche event.

Since you guys are talking event promotion; I have always wondered what do you guys think people running events need to do to promote their events outside of the websites and streams that primarily serve people who are already really into fighting games or spectating the tournament scene?

Buy ads on Twitch or Youtube? Can't imagine that's very cheap. Especially for smaller events.

Send press releases about the events (and their trailers) to more general gaming websites? No guarantee the website will give a fuck. Would probably be best to specifically send that stuff to people you know are at least casually into the scene.

Try to be more aggressive about promoting their stuff through the general gaming subreddits? People will just actively downvote your stuff if they you're there only to try and sell your shit.

These are just some things I muse about every now and then during a long ass commute as a fun "what if?" sort of thing. If you were running an event, how would you go about promoting it? I'm mostly thinking about majors as I write this post, but I'd also like to hear about you guys would go about promoting smaller local events too.

You guys can check http://www.capcomprotour.com for all upcoming events, and we typically have a 2-week promotion period for events on our Twitter account @CapcomFighters.

I think we do a pretty good job on our channels keeping people informed but if you guys have ideas on other places we're not hitting to get the word out let me know.

Tokido can eat quite a beat but I don't think he's gonna be winning a Popeyes contest.

the only sensible idea is just hope that gaming/esports news outlets would promote your event. twitch has been doing pretty well in promoting fgc events on their weekly shows and the new esports site by slasher did a tournament recap on final round and player interviews from the event.

and of course, official threads for majors on a gaming forum are always a good way to get the word out. ;-)

edit: and i think there's a huge market for someone to start a new dedicated fg website since nobody reads eventhubs or srk anymore.

From my experience with events, the people usually running them are just regular people doing this on top of their day jobs. Putting ads and pushing stuff at other outlets costs money, and honestly probably doesn't do much, plus it's more time and effort.

Best reasonable thing to do is attach yourself to something viewers already look at (get lots of screen time and people at big events), keep yourself present and interesting on social media, and get that momentum and bandwagon. Basically look at everything Jebailey does and try to do it better. Pretty easy to do if you have likable people and put them in the right places, doesn't cost that much etc.

It helps if you have a good face to things and not shit websites and social media accounts too. Capcom has good sites(shout outs to money), but on social media they still give off the big monolithic corporate vibe that people barely pay attention to because it's probably just fluff PR. Like I don't even tune into Capcom stuff anymore, because I just expect it to be Mike Ross or somebody spinning in circles for an hour without me learning much or being that entertained. The Spooky stream was the only one I kept watching, and let's be real Spooky can make anything entertaining.

Basically what I'm saying is, give Honzo the keys to the twitter account again.

I'm going to have to do my best to keep myself from appearing too angry at work this weekend. Got me working Friday and Saturday. I don't even wanna look at my boss.

40 minutes till Kombat Cast starts. They'll go over the mobile version but there will be also character gameplay on console

I actually wouldn't even feel as mad if I had gotten Lumbergh'd. Just my boss straight up not knowing what number month April is.

He probably just assumed you would be taking the weekend off to watch the Mayweather fight, like everyone else. I mean, not knowing 4 is April?!

Yeah, I mean he could have read your request and thought: "and another one wants the weekend off for the fight..." and barely read it. But I don't know, maybe he's more stupid than a scumbag

I think that's the implication. And also working for stupid people is infuriating.
