Yoko Taro, Platinum Games, Akihiko Yoshida and Keiichi Okabe all working together to make this game?

What a time to be alive.

Hours later I still have a hard time believing this is happening and with the people involved in it.

What were the odds, seriously.

I saw Emi Evans tweeting about Nier 2... Okabe is confirmed, so I hope she's in it as well. She had a big part in making Nier's soundtrack, making up the fictional languages and obviously lending her gorgeous voice.

If I had to choose between playing this and resonance of fate, which one I should play?

I dont have enough time to play all the rpgs I want to play ._.

I am interested in this game because Platinum is developing it.

Would you recomend the first one to someone who is not that into jrpgs except for a couple of Tales Of games...

Dude you have to play both. They are quite differnet games.

I personally just like Resonance of Fate just a tiny bit more, so I'm going to say that. Thing is there will never be sequel for Resonance to 'be ready for' (cry), so if you know you are gonna pick up Nier 2 - then yes play Nier instead.

Nier is an action RPG - with believe it or not - bullet hell shooter like sections. That's why Platinum is such a great fit - they can really bring their expertise to this part of the sequel.

So yes, it is recommended - Nier craps over all Tales games. The real heart of Nier is in the characters, music and that second playthrough. Don't be put off by the second playthrough requirement, though. The game is designed that way.

By the way, for first time players, here's how you handle side quests for Nier.

Basically, if you don't want to do them for story purposes, don't. The game is incredibly easy. You don't have to do any of them. It's not like Xenoblade. So many reviewers ripped on the game for the side quests. They should be considered bonus material.

God I wish I had this when I started playing NeiR a few years back. Absolutely true. It's a great game but FUCK some of those side quests.

I really should buy the first game. It isn't cheap though

I bought it a couple of months ago at mom'n'pop for about $20.

Hell no ! Some of the best quest rewards are hidden behind fetch quests, like the Ballad of the Twins.

The sidequests are basically just standard MMORPG quests. You stack up as many as you can while in town and then as you go about playing the main story, you'll find yourself completing them pretty naturally as you move around the game-world.

As with most of the gameplay problems people have with Nier, its entirely due to the in-game prompting being unfortunately ambiguous in spots. Fishing being the most noteworthy example as the instructions on how the mini-game works are straight-up wrong!

Wow, Nier is hard to find, even on ebay it does barely exist.

Bought the 360 version from amazon. I don't have a 360 currently, but I have platinum on PS3 (unfortunately sold the game) and just want to own it again. :D

Yoko Taro da god.

I still can't believe we are getting Nier 2 and Shenmue 3. Is this bizarro world????

Did they actually show any gameplay from any of the major Sony RPG Announcements? (Nier, Shenmue, FFVII?) - i didnt see any at all and am curious to see how far along these are or what any of them look like.

Nier is very early in development and only CG from FFVII. You can see in-engine Shenmue 3 footage on the kickstarter page. But of course we can assume that most of it is placeholder.

Nier 2 |OT| "Maybe we will delete your save files."

Perfect.

I'm happy weapon stories are in. And 3 playable characters is cool. Also it was expected because this is an RPG, but I'm glad they've toned down Platinum for this. Not sure I could handle over the topness, but I guess it's too much to expect the Dragon's Dogma of combat for this.
I'd just settle for it running well and playing good for once

This game is actually a bigger deal to me than FFVII or TLG. It can't touch Shenmue, but it is an amazing surprise that came out of nowhere.

I also liked Nier 1 before it was cool on GAF. Bought it at release.

Every time I got stuck in Xenoblade, someone would tell me "Well, you're under leveled, are you doing any sidequests?" :)

You can level up by doing a multitude of things in Xenoblade. Sidequests were mostly in the periphery for me. If you talk to quest givers and then go about your way continuing to ignore the quest and just explore, you'll eventually meet the requirement for a lot of the collectathon or kill x enemies quests.

Nier was such a phenomenal game. I played it about 4 years ago and played 2 times through it (and saw the other endings on youtube). The gameplay was okay back then, but the story and music was one of my favourite experiences back then.

Really glad that Square Enix decided to give it another chance!

OK I really want them to port the Original on PS4 so I can finish it before this comes out

Any news on the potential of the first one being rereleased?

I'm on Gaming page 1 and see Nier 2, The Last Guardian, Shenmue 3, FFVII Remake, Star Ocean 5 AND KH3. (and FFXV exists).

Wtf is going on?

I bought Neir purely based on GAF's comments about it 2 years ago or so. It's still in the wrapper as my WiiU has been played mostly.

I'd better get cracking then, but I hope it isn't GAF hype that eventually leads to dissappointment.

Is it possible to mention in tje OP that the composer also worked on Nier?

Nier's mucic are, for me, the best work ever done on a game.

Our years of believing have finally paid off. Fuck, if Square/Sony is willing to bet on another NieR game maybe Legacy of Kain has a proper chance after all..
