R. Mika's popularity in Street Fighter is baffling

I actually liked her moveset in Alpha 3, but then I tend to like the non-shoto, non-charge characters a lot like Guy and Karin.

The weirdest thing about "wrestlers are sexualized therefore mika HAS to be sexualized" it is that her partner has a totaly common wrestling suit.

Also, a counterpoint article

Mika's costume is also totally common for Joshi performer although I prefer the more classical stylings of her A3 costume. This way we get to see more representation of joshi culture and that is nothing but a good thing. Those women are tremendous workers and deserve every bit of exposure they can get.

I love female characters that are really sexy/fun, like Rainbor Mika.
What I don't like is characters that shouldn't be sexualized like Sophitia or Chun-Li being that sexy.

Ivy is my favorite character on Soul Calibur, and it's because her weapon. I love it!

Also, I'm gay, so I couldn't care less about naked women.

re: the OP and the linked article, if we're going to have fan-service female characters, I'll definitely take R. Mika and Bayonetta over the vast majority of others because they are female characters who are aware (and are actively enjoying!) their own sexuality. Really, I think R. Mika's design works a hell of a lot better than Cammy's design in that respect.

In comparison, the majority of fan-service-y female characters are often sexualised/objectified almost without their own consent/awareness. It's creepy as hell. It seems to be 'why put a camera on their face, when you can spend five minutes on a quality jiggling breast shot'? I always use the treatment of poor Miranda in mAss Effect (bad!) and Isabella in Dragon Age (good!) as an example of this. Isabella's sexuality is a huge part of her character (in both personality and design), but she's never objectified by the game. Miranda is a no bullshit professional, but she often becomes a joke with the camera preferring to focus on her ass instead of her face. Sexuality is not automatically a negative component, but depending on how the devs approach the concept, it can very quickly become one.

R. Mika's design is fairly eccentric, but she makes sense within the context of her character and the game she's in. (Her blue frilly outfit is adorably hideous, I kinda love it.) In comparison, Cindy from FFXV and Quiet from MGSV are two characters that recently have had a lot discussion on GAF. Both are characters that are objectified considerably, and their designs have a strong dissonance from not only they games the appear in, but the role they have within it, ie. mechanic and battlefield sniper. ( Despite any and all bullshit justification on the latter!)

I love that R. Mika's got muscles for days, too! I wish that happened more with female fighters in games outside of Street Fighter. For example, I love it when fan-artists draw FFVII's Tifa with awesome muscles, because that's what she'd have! Punch all the things, Teef. At any rate, I'm looking forward to playing R. Mika, she looks like some fourth-wall breaking fun.

Male dominated society OP.

I think everything about is great this time except her super.
Outfit is fine barring the exaggerated tit bounce.
I fine the audience reaction to immediately objectifying and sexualizing her 1000x more off-putting.

I don't follow fighting games and never saw the character before, but she looks like a typical pro wrestler to me. Are so many people offended by a physically intimdating woman?

Was looking for that!

They could have covered the cheeks and left the hearts on the bra though, but I'm hyped for Mika. I'll probably buy a costume that's less revealing if it's decent looking.
This reminds me a bit of DoA 3 where my main Tina had a choice between assless chaps or pants with a tanktop that showed underboob.

Still, Mika's appeal for me is that in addition to being really exuberant, she's always seemed super strong.
Her throw animations have her tossing dudes in ways that makes her seem equal in strength to the guys and not the usual female "glass cannon" archetype.
Besides, they haven't announced Hugo so who else am I supposed to play? :p

She sexy, and has a big ass. People dont come to fighting games for character depth (except when the depth is in thier play style)

It's not just Mika, all of the female characters in SF have muscles

It's the only fighter I can think of where the female characters are actually muscular. You'd expect the female characters in MKX to have some muscle detail, but they don't.

Indeed, and AFAIK she doesn't have the "vagina tax" anymore. She has about the same health as Ryu.

She is a wasted slot to me, much rather one of the original 8 in the game instead, if I want eye candy in Street fighter I'll settle for Cammy and Chun Li

Mika is the only Street Fighter character design I never cared for. Those baby blues and frills seem like something a toddler would wear and combining that with hyper sexualization? It's just a weird choice to me and not in a good way. Her voice acting in Alpha 3 made her out to sound like a moron (bam bam!). Her gameplay in SFV looks great, her attitude and VO seem a lot better as well (love her win animation with her partner). I'm looking forward to her in the game but as soon as I can give her a different outfit I will.

Read an article from a feminist defending her character, and I'm just at a loss.

Never mind the fact that she was terrible and unfun in Alpha 3 (one of the weakest characters in the game for those who haven't played), but isn't she a little transparent to anyone? I mean, she's basically like a woman from a Dead or Alive or Soul Calibur game shoved into Street Fighter.

What an odd conflation. Aside from Ivy and Sophitia, most women in SC are rather normal.

Wanted a woman's opinion so I asked my wife, and she thinks Mika's fucking awesome. I told her there's a sexy new SF character that people on the internet are complaining about for having boobs. She was expecting the typical "kyaaa!" high-pitched girly girl, but by the end of the trailer she thought everything about her was great, including the ass-smack and especially her badass voice and the butt-slam super move. To be fair, my wife also loves Japanese fem pro wrestling.

She's a great character. "Made from the ground up to be purely fan service" is ridiculously simple-minded. Her costume is silly and not sexy at all. Her body is sexy, yes, but if they wanted a purely fan-service affair, they'd have done something like a HS uniform, or some kind of thing that men actually find sexy. Not a ruffled clown-collar, huge muscles and a goofy looking mask.

These articles I love to see but also confuse me at the same time.

You would think women would say the same for ladies like Chun-li right?

1) Has muscle, built big like Mika. Those legs are larger than tree trunks!
2) Don't take no shit from men. Chun-li has no problem standing up for herself
3) Breast size comparable to Mika? Check
4) Never needs to be saved or is a prize to be won for the men? Check
5) Has a REAL job and actually does it well.

So why all this hate on Chunli, and her newest DLC outfit reveal? Not necessarily from GAF but I'm noticing a lot of salt on other websites.

What does she think of Sakura?

My wife makes fun of me because I think Mika's sf5 art is a bit much for me to put on arcade stick. Her favorite character is Juri, but she loves all of the 'sexy' outfits.

Gay dude here who couldn't give two fucks about her ass.

R Mika is AMAZING. Ever since the Decapre tease I've been hoping to see her return. Such an amazing over the top design, the fact that it's so absurd and outrageous is half the charm.

As for not caring about her moveset... seriously? She is jam packed with wrestling references, and looks like a hilarious character to use. Not everyone wants to play every character, but I don't think it's that hard to see her appeal.
